Should I choose the YouTube licence or creative commons licence in my videos?
And what is the copyright tab in your YouTube studio?

How does it work exactly and what does it do?
I’m going to go into the copyright tab with you and show you how it looks differently depending on whether or not you're monetized and I’m also going to explain how I might accidentally be giving myself a copyright strike on my own videos on my own channel.

It's a slightly bizarre situation I’ve got myself in but it's because of this that I found out how the copyright tab works so let's dive straight in

this is my YouTube studio
this is my channel dashboard and down the left hand side here you can see all the different tabs that you have
I’m going to click here on “copyright” because my channel is monetized

I have nearly 5000 subscribers
this is how my copyright tab looks if your channel isn't monetized so you have under 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours watch time this is how your copyright tab will look right now
and I... I know that because I have a channel which is under 1000 subscribers it's my dad delivers vlog and there's only one tab on the top of a copyright and you can see here it's just “removal requests”
“nothing to see here yet”

What is good is that on the top right hand corner even if you are not monetized you can issue a new removal request and it brings up this form: “request video removal” so that you can issue takedown requests on other people who have infringed your copyright by using your videos

And if you want to pause the video these are the details that YouTube will need but if your channel is monetized or you want to see what happens to the copyright tab when you become monetized this is how it looks

I have four videos on here
this is quite embarrassing because there are four videos where YouTube has spotted other YouTubers using my material

there are four videos except those aren't other YouTubers... they are all me
these channels here the dad delivers vlog, ikea dad and Neil's trains and stops they're all my channels
I have uploaded videos to those channels that are already on my first channel but the great thing about this is that I get to see exactly how this copyright tab works

what I didn't do was delete them from my first channel just in case something goes wrong so I just unlisted them or set them to private and what's really interesting is that YouTube has automatically spotted these four videos on those other channels and that's where it arrives in the copyright page

You can see along the top here we have the tab “matches” but what's really strange about this is that I have probably about 40 to 50 videos on those other channels that are duplicates on this channel so at first I couldn't work out why only four videos were appearing in my copyright
and then I looked into the details and I’m gonna do this now just so you can spot the thread

the first video that it’s found, I had a look and just scroll down I just want to show you this thing here: licence and distribution
Standard YouTube licence

the second video it spotted was this ikea play kitchen and if I scroll down the licence is standard YouTube licence
now you might be able to spot a thread here because the third video disabled train toilet door yep yet again standard YouTube licence
if you click on this option here you have a choice you can either choose the standard YouTube licence or the creative commons attribution licence

I was a big believer in creative commons because I think if people can share my videos that's a good thing

it will spread the word and it might encourage more eyeballs to come to my channel than if I do not give them creative comments but for these four videos for whatever reason I didn't select creative commons I chose the YouTube standard licence and I think this is why these four videos have shown up as a channel copyright match

just to test this theory here's another video this is my “how to buy online postage” and that hasn't shown up as a match and that very definitely is over on my dad delivers channel
but if I scroll down to the licence and distribution, sure enough the licence on this video is creative commons attribution

I have a theory that if you set your licence to creative commons it's giving permission for people to use your video so long as they mention in their description the source of the video - which is the attribution part
but because I made this creative commons it hasn't shown up as a copyright match

You might want to use this information you might want to set your videos to the YouTube standard licence - if only just to have this tool pick up and see who is using your videos elsewhere on YouTube
my dad delivers vlog channel is at 796 subscribers I do not want anything to stop this channel being monetized so I don't want the YouTube algorithm to think or know that there are other videos out on YouTube that I have used on my channel

I’m basically going to delete these videos the duplicate videos from the original channel this is a huge step for me
these videos have got tens of thousands of views so if I go to the first video this is changing your clock on a Volkswagen car... this video has had 13000 views in its lifetime
it just abruptly stops there where that's where I set it to private
you can see the spikes actually because it's setting a clock video: these spikes are where people have looked it up because the clocks have gone forward or backwards

If I click on the three dots up in the top right hand corner there's the option “delete”
This is the nuclear option for it
hit delete
I understand that deleting is permanent and can't be undone
delete forever

Boom it's gone! oh that didn't feel good but I’ve got to protect my new channel
I do not want my monetization at 1000 subscribers to be stopped because it looks as if I am pirating videos from other channels even though these are my videos
It's just I keep the channels separate
Just to reassure myself I’m going to go back to the copyright tab and worryingly it's still there the VW... it's gone!
I’ve got to go through now all the videos that haven't been matched and delete those

Down here is my new playlist where I list everything to do with running your YouTube channel and some of the features of YouTube studio and up here is what YouTube thinks you should be watching next
Can you please help my daddy get 10000 subscribers
just click on his face thanks bye!
alright this is going to be the proper one right
