Lovely IKEA Havsta Cabinet SPEED BUILD and Review... It's a bit of a beast! With a HACK!

I take on the IKEA HAVSTA glass cabinet to transform a "dead corner" of our bedroom. My son and I tackle a speed build of this solid wood beast: complete with kung-fu cardboard fighting, tricky plinth, and a battle with the spring-loaded door hinges. Once it’s upstairs, I show you my custom DIY lighting IKEA hack using 12V LED strips and a hidden switch to illuminate my wife's stuff.
It wasn't the easiest IKEA build, but the final result is a definite Dad Delivers success!

Hello. Welcome back to the channel where we try new things for your family. And welcome to to my bedroom. Uh this is where the magic happens. But in the corner is really where the magic happens because my daughter's filming this and she is absolutely cringing. This is the magic. I don't know what you're thinking. This is the magic. The magic of IKEA. You can't say here's my bedroom. This is where the magic happens. So, not only am I going to do a speed build, but keep watching to the end because afterwards I'm going to show you how I've added an extra button to do this. It lights up. And this corner was absolutely dead. It was just a pile of junk and a mirror and a little picture shelf. And my wife had the brilliant idea of filling it with furniture. And I thought it would be too much. I thought it would just, you know, fill the alcove. But actually, it looks really good. But before I tell you all about this great use of space, let's go downstairs back in time to do a speed build on this. Look at this. This is the IKEA HAVSTA cabinet. This is just another one of the IKEA dad videos. Here is me building this from scratch in time lapse. And it's it's a difficult one. So, uh, I guess we'll just get started then. This one's a really tricky one because there's lots of glass involved. Uh, so I got my son to help me. Uh, I think we get a little bit distracted and start fighting each other with the packaging and then get into some kung fu style attacks on the cardboard, but then we focus. We focus and manage to somehow put the bits on the floor on the rug like uh they show you in the pictures. Usually we don't bother with the rug, but this time we did. And oh my goodness, I'm glad that we did because this this is a bit of a beast. So, we got the frame together. You can see we have to line up the the dowels and uh push the whole thing together. Then we've got to find the the way that the back goes on. And this stumped us for a bit. And actually, a chunk of it came out. I can see right now that uh there's a little bit in the middle that missed the thread that it's supposed to go through. And it's I mean it's a bit of cardboard as well, so I didn't think it'd be that difficult, but somehow we managed to get the thing straight and slide it in. Next, it's uh kind of a screw free put together, which uh on the upside is quite good to do because you get these special plastic pins that you push into the holes and then you push another pin into that hole and it kind of expands the plug and that's what holds it into place. And you do that instead of do you remember in the old days with IKEA where you'd uh you'd hit with a hammer about 60 nails in the back. Some of them would go in straight, some of them wouldn't. But this clip system does seem to work. It seems a bit iffy, but it actually looks like this will hold. And with a few more hits and pushes, I think this is the main frame that's been put together. It took a while to orient it against the IKEA instructions. As always with all IKEA stuff, uh you're trying to match up the picture with the real life scenario. And we pretty much got it for the frame. But the plinth, oh my goodness, the plinth is is deceptively difficult. It's just four bits that you just push together, but nowhere in the instructions does it make it clear which way round the really heavy bit. There's like one bit that's got like an iron bar on the side. And you'd think they'd make it really obvious in the instructions which is the heavy bit, but no, we got to guess from this illustration. So, we wing it. And of course, the winging it doesn't go to plan. When we got to this stage, we realized we've done something wrong. And this took us a while to figure out, but we've we worked out that we put there's like a plastic feet that you push in to the holes that we put the wrong way round. So, now we've got to get the plastic thing out. And my poor son, he's uh sent me off for a spanner or some pliers. I've come back with the pliers and yeah, he's just managed to injure himself on the pliers. Really painful injury there. I'm on my own now and I'm trying to get the plints together and the plints the right way round. And now I can get the plint onto the bottom of the main frame of the cabinet. So with a bit more dowel and a few more push pins, this whole thing is held together with plastic pins. It's uh that's quite incredible, isn't it? And now I can push the the whole cabinet the right way up. I put these things on the back. These things are supposed to space it from the wall. If you're pushing it up against a skirting board, I think these big round things space the back so it it rests on the wall and then you can screw the cabinet securely to the wall. Now I'm putting in the pins that will have the shelves on them. The shelves will rest on these 12 pins. And this this bit is weird. So I've got these frames and these fra shelves basically with holes in them. So, I'm putting these holy shelves up and uh just putting those in. Three shelves you get with this one. I I've got to get this thing up the stairs as well. So, I'm demonstrating all of this for the camera, but uh I've going to have to somehow take it all down again so I can get it up the stairs. This is all for demonstration, showing off on the channel. Now, this is my nemesis. I completely mis misunderestimated I completely underestimated the difficulty that I thought I just whack the doors on. They're like, you know, all kitchen doors, all cabinet doors, they've got these spring-loaded things. But first thing to trip you up is the spring-loaded things have got to go the right way round, and they're different. They have to go in the specific holes. Oh my goodness. I am now struggling. I cannot get this door on for love nor IKEA money. I just can't do it. I don't know if it's that the holes aren't drilled properly or the the screws just aren't biting. The thread through the metal does not work. And the only way I can get this to work is to completely take it apart and put it back together again. And then just screw it in from scratch. And I'd had enough by now. I was upset my son got hurt. And I'm just fed up with the whole thing. And look, I mean, look at the time. I mean, this is like well over an hour. This is really speeded up. The final touches are these really nice knobs, the doorknobs that go on, but for some reason the thread doesn't go into the door knob. Again, it's a metal thread problem. I... I don't know what's going on. I think this might be it. So, there you have it. So, somehow we managed to lug it upstairs. Sorry, Casper's down there. He wants to be a part of this. Somehow we managed to hoist it up the stairs. It is really heavy, especially the plinth to stop it from falling over. But when it got here, it looked great, but it looked like this. Once my wife had filled it with stuff, I wanted to illuminate the stuff. So, come closer and I'll show you how we did this. If I take the camera. Thank you. So, what I wanted was a button on the side. And I managed to get this off Amazon. When you press the button, it lights up and it lights up the the cabinet. And I just wanted to show you closer how I've done this. Inside the shelves, there is a piece of glass. So, that's good. But I didn't know where to put the lights. I didn't want the lights showing. So, I managed to buy a strip of 12V lighting strip. It wasn't that expensive, and it comes fitted with a USB cable, and you can cut it up. So, what I did was I cut it to size. Don't if you can see it under there if I poke the camera under. And it's got an adhesive strip on it so you can stick it to here. So, I cut it to the right length. And then, oh my goodness, my soldering is not very good. It took me hours. It took me about 4 hours and made forge strips behind there. There is uh all kinds of spaghetti to this really dainty switch and it goes on and off. And then that cable goes down here to an old USB cable. And I just cut the end off and bured the wires and used those wires to go into the switch to control the lighting strips. But it's all done on really low voltage. It's sort of 5 V to 12 V. I've just used an IKEA USB port. It sort of came to life. Not only does it illuminate the stuff in the cabinet, but it also brings the cabinets to life and I don't know makes it kind of a a lighting source in its own right. I am calling this IKEA HAVSTA cabinet dad delivers success. If you've reached this point of the video, thank you for uh any comments or questions or just saying hi in the comments would be great. And I really appreciate you hitting the thumbs up or the subscribe button cuz it really helps me to keep this channel going. Indoors filming? DJI OSMO NANO sample video footage!

Can the tiny DJI Osmo Nano camera handle the flickering, mixed lighting of indoor shopping centres?
I take the DJI Nano indoors for real-world low lighting, filming while wearing it on my chest.
Trying it out in a bright clothing store and then risk filming inside a brand new IKEA.
Unedited, straight-out-of-the-camera footage to see how the Nano's stabilization and anti-flicker settings cope with challenging indoor LED lighting...

So anyway, this is the is it called the Churchill Shopping Centre? And this is what it's like on the DJI Nano. This is how the Nano looks when you're filming indoors in somewhere that's that's lit by bright LEDs. Um, usually the LEDs are a problem and they flicker even though you've got anti- flicker on and you've set the the camera if you're in the UK, you need to set it to 25 frames per second or you might be in a region where you need 30 frames per second. And you wanted to go into pull and bear, which I've never heard of before. I thought it was called pulling bear, but it's pull and bear. Pull and bear. So, I'm... I'm chest wearing like this. The camera's down here. I'm chest-wearing it on this is horizon balancing on dewarp setting and I'm just wandering aimlessly around the aisles looking at the uh keenly priced products. I'm going to go into IKEA now. It's brand new IKEA that's just opened and they are really funny about filming in um Oxford Street. So, I don't know what they'll be like here. I'll... I'll hide the camera as we walk through the door. Um, what I have been doing is wearing the camera on here, so it kind of blends in with my with my coat. Uh, which is kind of nice. But let's uh see how much I can get in the IKEA store. Probably not much at all.

There's your thing. Does it work now?

Watch.

Looks nice. What's that? It's for a kitchen top. I quite like that. What did you put in it? Um, knives and drain things. Drain things. But it is clutter though, isn't it? A little bit. It's just a tiny bit small and it get wet and moldy. Right. So, what I'm looking for, they usually happen with the shelves is um they're like book ends put on the end of a shelf. Oh, yeah. So you see shelves.

Look, I can see how well I'm doing on here.

Oh, here we go. Good shows.

It's shaped like a B as well. A B. A B like a bumblebee or a B. A letter B. Yeah. I was going to say, why is it shaped like a bumblebee? Sorry. I was going to say, why is it shaped like a bumblebee? Yeah, there's lighting seems to be coping with the mad LEDs. So, I'll just look around. See if it can cope with all kinds of light.

quite tired. Are you? Yeah. Yeah, me too. Oh, here we go. Right. So, be around here somewhere. I need shelves.

I could try and look on here.

Oh, that one. Why? I don't know. They just do. Uhoh. They don't have it here. Oh, do they have it in Oxford Street. I think there are only two in Southampton.

Six in Oxford Street. Southampton. 31 in Southampton. Okay. But not here.

Oh, that's a shame. Okay.

Right. So we will... that's a fail, isn't it?

Orchid. Does that look pineapple? Yeah. Is that an actual pineapple? I don't know. "Ananas!" Yeah, it is. We grow a pineapple. I guess you can. What the hell? That's so cute. Do you want one? Don't think we can carry it. 7 pound pineapple. And then you can cut it up and put it on some cheese... We'll have to grow our own cheese as well. That's by goat. Yeah.

Pineapple. Yeah. What? It's like a plant and then there's just a pineapple.

Huh? Shouldn't we go? Oh, wait. Maybe we should get something like this, you know.

I mean, not that one cuz it's got the hooks missing, but...

Oop, nearly walked into a sign.

Okay, we got to go.

You have to Sorry, we have to go back.

Oh, you could have meatballs and chips if you want to.

It sounds what? But I'm already just like when we make sushi. So that's what it's like filming in an IKEA, a brand new IKEA. Uh I... on the screen it looked like the lights could cope that the camera could cope with the lights. Those different LED type indoor lights, which is really difficult for vloggers who shoot in stores and shoot indoors. So yeah, it's coping quite well. I think the camera with the indoors-y lighting and shopping centre lighting. And even better, I've not been told to stop filming yet. So maybe they're just used to it in Brighton. Maybe they just don't care. They just don't care. I know. I think they've got so many vloggers here in Brighton, but you know, probably stop you if you don't have a camera.

EVACUATED! Our IKEA Trip Went Horribly Wrong

This is from a longer video of a day out in London with my teenage son, and thought this was a simple mission: get meatballs at the new IKEA Oxford Street store. But it takes an unexpected turn when an emergency evacuation alarm goes off...
See how long it takes before the search for an emergency exit starts.
Perfect family outing!

EVACUATED! Our IKEA Trip Went Horribly Wrong

We just ordered. Uhoh. We need to find an emergency exit. So, don't [ __ ] around. Let's get out. [Music] Just get out cuz like seriously. So, we came here only a few months ago before it was built and it was just a pop-up shop and it was like a bit of a PR stunt where they just had a few things and now it's opened properly.

What is this theme park? Yes, the cafe is down here underground one floor down. And I don't know what the deal is for ordering. I think we're already in the wrong place. [Music]

All right. And um what do you want? Yeah. Um

just about to order. I'm not buying. And there's a there's a message saying, "Please leave the building immediately." I was just about I was just about We just ordered. Uh-oh. I was just about to go. This is emergency, right? So we're going to go. And now look, just before we pay, we need to find an emergency exit. Seriously. Okay. Yeah. Go. Just get out.

[Music] Technically, we can just We could just run through. [Music] Seriously, don't [ __ ] around. Just get out.

Just get out. Yeah, like

I wanted those meatballs. Oh, thank you. Well done for not tapping the car. I didn't want to pay.

[Music] We did.

So, that was eventful. Okay, so we're now evacuated from the IKEA store. I think they just burnt some meatballs or something, didn't they? All the um the canteen staff didn't look like they like Oh, I think you know I got a feeling that they might have been responsible for that. Maybe someone the alarm or something. Yeah, it could be someone pushing the alarm. You don't know though. You You can't You got to be safe. Do you know what? Yeah, it's true. That's the first time I've been in a store evacuation. Wasn't it interesting? I stood there for 30 seconds before Yeah. I You'd have gone quicker, wouldn't you? I think I would have just gone.

And we were the only ones to use that emergency exit as well. People just Yeah. Yeah. They're like waiting to go up the escalator. I know. That was our lunch again. Right. So, the second time this is actually the second time we tried to get meatballs in Oxford Street. That's good. But you did. But what is good though is they might wipe all those orders off and then we could go back in again when they've declared it safe. When are they going to say that? I don't know. Do you think it's safe being here? Should we like get out of the way? Oh man. Just as I was about to like tap it, it went Did you think that you you tripped up the alarm with the No. 24 meatballs we ordered. Oh man. I don't know if it's safe. Is it safe for us to be in this building? Let's go. Let's Yeah. Okay. But where? Just go John Lewis. Okay. John Lewis. That's great cuz we sit down and come back for the meatballs. Yeah.

We were here like literally 10 minutes before 4:00 on a Sunday. And they said, "No, you we're not doing it. You You got to go." We're like, "Oh, I was this close to the meatballs and now I'm just about to tap the credit card." like IKEA's curs. So, should we should we give it a provisional score? What score would we give the IKEA store Oxford Street? If I got it, that would have been a nine, right? It would have been a nine, but there's minus one. Minus one for making us use the emergency exit. I liked that we had a bit of jeopardy, a bit of excitement, bit of emergency meatballs. I'm going to Yeah, I wanted my meatballs. I'd give it three for the evacuation experience. Yeah, I've never had to do that. Yeah, that was cool. And you filmed them? I hope I did.

🛍️ We visited the IKEA Pop-Up Store on Oxford Street, London, and found some fun surprises... From personalized IKEA FRAKTA bags to a mystery Press Here button. this shopping experience has unexpected moments. Plus, I picked up an exclusive GREEN FRAKTA bag... How We Found a Secret IKEA Pop-Up Store on Oxford Street!

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

Didn't have to pay 2 pound for that.
Welcome to London's Oxford Street! It's, uh, it's around Christmas time, as you can probably tell from the decorations. But we are here at the IKEA popup store in Oxford Street, and we had a couple of surprises here.
So, this is a really badly shot video, but I just wanted to show you some of the things that are being handed out in this IKEA popup shop.
The idea is that you go in, and there's a gift shop, and there's also the chance to buy a classic IKEA blue bag—but monogrammed! So they press on these three-dimensional, um, letters. They're like, uh, fabric letters, and it doesn’t cost that much. It’s the price of a bag, which is 75p.
They also do medium-sized bags, which I've... I've never seen before. But we went for the classic large bag. You just fill in a form and put the letters that you want and the colors of the letters that you want. Some of the colors were unavailable—it’s either blue or yellow—and some of the letters, when we visited, were missing. But that’s okay, 'cause it's all mix and match. It’s all blue and yellow anyway.
So you fill in a form, and, uh, while they're pressing your letters onto the bag, you can walk through the gift shop to pay for your bags. And the—let, let me show you what the gift shop looks like.
It seems to be gifts here that you can’t get in regular IKEAs. It’s kind of color-themed, so there’s a blue section. I swear there are some, uh, items in there that you can't get in regular IKEA stores.
So if you... if you... if you want something interesting, um, or unusual—an unusual gift—this... this might be good for you. Or maybe you'll just stick them on eBay, I don't know.
You get these, uh, cushion covers—oh, I am—I don’t know if you can buy the IKEA—you can get IKEA-branded—so, I think you can get IKEA-branded stuff that you can’t get in the stores.
So that’s the blue cushion, if you can see it up there, and there’s also a green one. So we've got a green section here. In the green section, they’ve got, um, a green IKEA-branded cushion, which I’ve not seen before, but also the FRAKTA bags in green.
So I’ve definitely... I’ve definitely picked up one of those. I don’t know what I’m going to do with it. It just feels special, and it’s like 75p, so why not?
And then, an orange section—oh! This green IKEA cushion!
And then, uh, we’ve got an orange section and pink.
While we’re waiting for the monogrammed bags, they’ve got this really strange area that you can visit where you—it’s like a hole in the wall and just a sign that says "Press Here."
So, of course, we pressed here to see what would happen, and we were not expecting this!
You randomly either get a lolly, like this one—I don’t think you call them lollies outside of the UK, do you? Is it a popsicle? What do you call that sweet? Tell me in the comments if you’re not in the UK.
Or, we pressed it again and got this—it’s a blue, uh, candy floss.
What do they call it? They call it cotton candy, don’t they?
"Can we... can we swap?"
"Maybe!"
"I’ll just walk over here now..."
We’re going to pick up our bags.
There’s the remains of the stick. It was delicious, wasn’t it? And it was blue raspberry flavor, which was, uh, nice and on brand.
It didn’t take long at all for the bags to appear, and, uh, I’ve gone for them.
I... do you know what? I’m going to have to tell the family to not watch this video, 'cause this is supposed to be a Christmas surprise!
How am I going to... how am I going to do that? I... but I do want to release this video. So I guess you and I are now spoiling the surprise for the family.
We got the... the bags.
The bags look, uh... uh... as IKEA bags do. But the lettering is really nice! It’s really premium, really nice thick, thick felt. And I sort of wish I’d gone for the blue and yellow on the others now.
I thought the... the yellow would contrast, because the, uh, the "B" was missing in yellow. We’ve gone for a blue and yellow, which I think kind of looks better.
That was fun! I enjoyed that.
Oh, look! It’s got bags... going through the bags...
That was good, wasn’t it?
I’ve really enjoyed that.
Um, I don’t know how long it’s going to be open, but, uh, if you—is it 'til spring? That’s—it’s got ages yet, until they open up the massive—oh, brilliant!
Now I’m going to hold this up and hope that it doesn’t get snatched.
So, I don’t know how long it’s going to be, but it’s going to be about spring.
So if you get a chance to visit the IKEA store in Oxford Street, we highly recommend it, don’t we?
That blue raspberry—this is nice candy floss! Looks really good.
The whole thing—four bags and the green bag monogrammed—came to £16, plus we got a free lolly and, uh, cotton candy... candy floss.
We’re here on a Saturday. I think we’re here slightly earlier in the day, around 12:00. There aren’t any crowds here. Um, I don’t think people have caught on to this.

Hello, welcome back to the vlog, and welcome back to my bathroom. We... we've been in here a few times too many, I think. But is your handle on your PVC window broken?
Is it... does it just not move? Is it not working, even if you press the button in? The handle on the PVC window doesn't open? I think I've got a solution for this. I'm going to do this for the first time in real time so you can follow along with me. We try new things every day to make your family happy, and the thing I'm trying today to make my family happy is to... is to open the crucial bathroom window because Daddy... Daddy might change the smell in here from time to time, and if they can't let it out the window, I... I think we will have breathing difficulties.
Come on, Cohagen! You got what you want!
Give these people AIR!
I... I've tried WD40. It doesn't work. Uh, basically, you push the button in, and for some reason, the catch doesn't... doesn't turn. And I know that it's not locked, because the button does go in and out, and it... you can lock it, and the button doesn't move.
Let me show you how this handle works when it works.
Let's go to my son's bedroom, and this will help you to do this technique that I'm about to show you.
But here we have... obviously, the handle is on a different orientation, but if I press the button and open it, it opens. And can you see inside? There is that catch there.
So when it's working, you push the button in, and the catch releases, and that catch sits inside this kind of square metal block here.
So when you close the window, the catch lifts itself up because it's got that kind of, uh, slide on it, and that's going to be crucial for our technique.
And then when you close it, it should click into place, and the click is the... the plastic button sitting in that metal kind of window.
That's... that metal bed. So if I press the button again, obviously, it opens.
So what we need to do is to get something inside that to lift that plastic catch.
Now, what I'm going to use is my Post Office travel money card, which was really good—it really works!
You can just load it up with money, but we're going to try it for this.
Now, I did try it with cardboard because I thought the gap would be too thin.
But a... a... a credit card or piece of plastic should be able to get in.
What we're going to do—can I get in closer?—so I'll try and get you as close as possible.
I'm going to slide the corner all... all the way in so that hopefully it pushes the catch up.
And obviously, you need to make it all the way through the... the... the handle.
And now you can just turn the handle! Ta-daa!
My family can breathe again!
Give these people AIR!
But now what we've got to do is replace the handle because obviously, if you click it... oh no!
We're going to push this open again like that—open it goes. We're going to...
Sorry, I'm just straddling the... the nice bamboo shelf in the bath.
We are going to pry off this cap with a very sharp flathead screwdriver, and underneath—hopefully that hasn't fallen down the... the plug hole—but underneath you have a... a screw there and a screw there, which obviously you can't get to if the handle is... is locked.
So use the card to open it, and then we're going to unscrew these two screws.
This might be one step beyond your DIY, but bear with me, I think this is going to be straightforward and easy.
We're going to undo... I've got my, uh, my trusty Ikea screwdriver as well, and we're going to take out these two screws, and it should just pull out like this. So there's the spindle in there that turns the lock in there—oh—yeah, obviously, I should... I should probably have opened the window first thing on it.
I didn't want to lose the screws out of the window.
You can open the window.
Now I'm going to look online on Amazon to see if I can find a new PVC window handle.
It is now one day later, and finally, my PVC window handle has arrived from Amazon.
I'll leave a link down in the description for a search to get you to the same kind of handles.
You can also get these in DIY superstores. I'm just being lazy, but you can get these in pairs or in greater numbers, so you might get a better deal. I've gone for two because I'm pretty sure this is going to happen again sometime.
This is the old handle, and this is the new handle, and can you see? The... I have to move my face. Can you see that the... the spindle size is different? So what I'm going to do, I think, is see if I can take this out. Oh, you can't—you can't take it out. Oh no. I am really hoping that this works and that this isn't too long for the hole. By the way, if your handle is broken and you've got the handle off and you still can't unlock the window, you can use this section here to turn the lock that's actually inside the window.
Let's use the old one to close the window, just pull it to.
Fingers crossed. I'll bring the camera closer now, we'll see if this will actually fit and if it'll actually work. So I'm going to put that square peg into the round hole...
But there is a square hole in there, and... oh, only just, only just. You can see that there's a bit of a gap. Don't know what I'm going to do about that.
I have tried with some pliers, and I cannot get this to budge at all. It just won't come out. You are going to have to find a hacksaw to... to bring down that length.
Ah, it's... it's never easy! Do I... do I... do I bother?
Do I bother?
Let's just do it for the video.
I'm going to mark roughly the length of the other one onto the new one. I think it's only a little bit over, so I don't actually have to take that much off. I am just using a junior hacksaw for this.
And I hate sawing metal—partly because it's so hard and takes a long time, but also because these metal shavings that come off, the splinters aren't great to have on the floor while we walk around with no shoes on.
This takes a lot of work.
I... I've sped this up. I started off with bits of wood between the clamp and the handle to protect the white coating on the handle, and then in the end, it was so much faff, I gave up and just put the clamp on directly just to hold it in place so I could get maximum sawing in.
In the end, I have to use some pliers to snap it off. Hey, got it! So now it should be the right size.
Back in the bathroom, and pretty much for the same reason... for the same reason, the new handle comes with new screws, but they're longer, so I don't want to chance it.
I'm going to use the old screws to put the new handle in place, and we'll put the square peg into the square hole inside there—that's the actual lock.
And you can see now that the handle is now flush with the window.
Kind of worth the sawing!
And now I'll put the old screw in, and then I can open it—oh no, no! You're kidding me. You are kidding me. Oh, look...
Okay, I thought I'd broken it, so I've put it on the wrong way. Now I can open it, yes! [Music]
And finally, you can cover up the screws with these caps.
Let's try this again. We'll test it—window opens, window closes, handle locks.
I'm calling this a Dad Delivers success!
That was a really hard one. I don't know why, but thank you for saying hi in the comments or hitting the thumbs up or the subscribe button. It really helps me to keep this channel going. Good luck with your window, and right here is what YouTube knows you want to be watching next!

How to destroy a leather sofa with electric foot rests in 12 minutes!

I had to dismantle my dad's 3-seater leather sofa before he could get his new IKEA Ektorp armchairs built. We couldn't donate this sofa because it's against the law if it doesn't have the safety tag still attached... and we couldn't afford to get it reupholstered: the leather is torn and the seat on one side completely collapsed. So the only way to get it out of the apartment and over to the tip was to take apart the foot rest motors and then destroy the sofa into 3 large parts which can be carried out to the car!

How to destroy a leather sofa with electric foot rests in 12 minutes!

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
hello welcome back to the channel this is a funny little video about how we destroyed my dad's leather sofa his three seater sofa look you can see the three of us the men of the family working out how on Earth we are going to get this brown leather sofa out of his small apartment or flat as we call it here in the United Kingdom

we knew we had to pull it out but we had no idea how we were going to get take this apart so the first thing we're doing is is tipping it up on its back and it has adjustable footrests mechanical electric footrest don't worry it's it's unplugged but we had to First somehow work out how to get the electric motors out from the sofa and then figure out how we take the thing apart or get it out of the out of the flat uh

underneath the fabric oh you can see a nice shot of my uh my my clothing at the back could probably be a bit more uh better uh forgive me thank you for your patience but we're going to somehow work out a way to unbolt the electrical motors that drive the footrests and to do that we need to even find them so here's my sun and I are just trying somehow to locate where the motors are and how they're bolted to the leather Sofa underneath and this is going to be a bit dull but I'm I'm just trying to use my electric screwdriver to to power out the the different screws and we plug it in again just to we had to like move the footrest to different positions just so I could even get to the the screws that held the motors to the sofa my my dad granddad's uh very helpfully diving in with the uh the vacuum cleaner and this took forever

I think I might speed this up a bit faster because it takes ages just to find out where the the screws were it turns out they were about 6 of them on each uh motor there were two foot rests we're now looking into the sofa on both sides it's so difficult just trying to just trying to find out where where these screws and bolts are so the two of us thought we we do a two prong attack and see if we could get both foot stool Motors out at the same time

dad's back in with the Hoover it's great work dad and yeah and slowly but surely we start to remove more fabric to expose more by the way it's it was really nice it was really nice family day nice male bonding for the three generations of the mossy family here without a clue oh my God I'm so sorry I'm going to have to blur out the uh I've got to blur out the back of my jeans I've got real Builders bum going on here which was right for the for the toolbox and the the task in hand but you don't you don't need to see this I think this this blurring needs to be quite loud [Music]

anyway this this took forever so if you've looked up this video to see how to destroy a sofa how to take apart a leather sofa with electrical mechanical foot stools I hope something here helps but uh it was just a painstaking exercise to dismantle it so I'm now unplugging the the motors but I have to plug them in again just to move the foot stool a small amount to be able to expose the bolts and the screw is holding the motor to the wooden frame of the leather sofa and uh it's really difficult it's just so hard I'm using combination of a cross- head screwdriver and I've got a wrench there and some pliers because some of the the bolts have to be held on the other side and I I've managed to get the right hand side loose so I knew we're on to something it was just a couple more screws holding the motors in place that stopping us from actually taking the motors out and then we could start cutting up the sofa but this was a bit of a breakthrough here this was the moment where I knew that I could get the right hand side footstool out so with a bit of help just to remove this one final Bolt

the whole weight of the entire mechanism was just on one one screw there and I think that's that's now out so now I've gone over to the other side to remove the remaining screws holding the the mechanism in place and with a bit of help from my son to lift up the there like a pump action kind of thing that pushes the footstool out and locks into place we had to move that from time to time oh look at this I found uh my dad's Freedom pass he' lost that about 5 years ago

he had free travel in London from when he was living in London and was convinced that he'd lost his freedom pass I think I I'll show it to the camera in a minute but uh I found that jam down the side of the sofa so if you take nothing away from this but this tip up your sofa now tip it up now and have a good rout around underneath because there'll be all kinds of gems from the the 5 or 10 years that that you you've had it this sofa is about 10 15 years old and we would have loved to have kept it going but uh to reupholster it would have costed hundreds if not a thousand and no one would take it because it didn't have the the the tag anyway we're tipping the the the sofa up as you can see and we've managed to get the left hand side sofa units out we can carry that outside which which is uh fantastic it was the best part of the day so we found an old lost Freedom

pass oh Dad was choked it was here all the time he was looking everywhere for that so now we are taking apart the the right hand side of the sofa and that can go out out the back door ready to go to the tip because we can take these piece by piece in the car I haven't got a big car so I couldn't get the uh the whole sofa in and that then leaves the carcass oh Dad's having another go with the uh with the vacuum cleaner yeah I'm now thinking what on Earth do I do with the three seats of the Tre seater sofa so we removed that unit and just looking at the fill

this is about five years worth of of just stuff and spillages and a little bit of uh mold that's built up on on the wall there I'll talk about that in a bit here's sofa part two I'm going to somehow try and Destroy what's left of it the camera here we're in for the final push and I've got the jigsaw out it's a corded jigsaw and in my head I'm just thinking if I can make some crucial cuts on the wooden frame of the sofa then I could at least get the thing into three parts and I could get those three parts into the back of the car so it's a combination of Jigsaw and that's just plywood at the back my dad's offering me a hammer as you can see the the sofa is just built of plywood and foam and these these wooden struts so I've tipped It Forward just to get a different angle for the jigsaw to get in and I'm using the handsaw and and uh what else have I got there I didn't take the hammer and I'm just trying to work out where where are the easiest points to cut what's there

I I pulled out the there switches on the side electrical switches that controlled the the motors I thought that might be useful to keep them with the motors maybe sell them on eBay I don't know is there much of a market for foot rest motors from sofas they're really good and they work really well uh so I've cut out all Electronics put that to one side and then back to removing this part of the sofa and I had an idea here where if I make a couple of cuts I could fold it down and that would help the arm just fold down in into the car so off that goes out the back door and I've got to cut what's left now in half dad's having a much needed uh sandwich break uh very crucially holding it for me uh this is what looking like at the back and uh

this going to cut here and cut all the way down there and then and then I can use the jigsaw or saw to cut through the frame and that will be the three parts we need to get rid of it and I'll take out the electronics here back to the jigsaw and the and the hand saw just get a nice angle on the camera and I'm using the knife that's the other uh piece of equipment I've got it's the knife to remove the fabric making those incisions into the leather of the back of the sofa there and there a lot of Staples in the thing

I had to avoid the blade hitting the Staples so I'm just using the knife just to cut away any fabric I can and then this jigsaw just goes straight through the plywood and the wooden struts holding it together little bit of work with the hand saw I think that was just to get around the metal Staples that are in in the in the frame and then one final bit of jigsaw to cut this last Strut and that's it I've managed to segment divide this three sea sofa into three I'm pulling out the electronics bit little less carefully this time I don't if you can see the silver buttons there so I'm just trying to find those I don't know why I'm salvaging these it just it was just my favorite part of the sofa I think it' be a shame to let those Motors go to waste so I'll just put those with the footrest Motors and then little bit more cutting with the jigsaw so I can fold down this arm of the armchair for its final Journey to the the council tip uh you got to book in these days which is Fun Since Covid

and then we've got a last section there so now it's just the clear up uh take everything out to the back door and get things ready for the Ikea Ektorp two armchairs I'm going to just clean the floor this is like 5 years is worth of spills that have gone down over the years and I need to clear a space because the Ikea Ektorp they're they're quite big these armchairs that are coming in I've got another video about these that link is down in the description I'd love you to see it those Ikea armchair builds with a separate foot stool no motorized foot rest unfortunately but time to gather up all the tools one final final clean and uh this place has never been this clean look at this amazing stuff uh

just do a bit of uh merry Poppins with my uh trousers hanging down and that line against the wall there that is where I guess warm air was hitting the cold wall behind the sofa it's the coldest point in the room and I'm going to use a sterilizing fluid I'm just very carefully sucking up the dust around that back wall there all I'm doing is getting a cloth with Milton sterilizing fluid you know the fluid that you use for uh sterilizing baby bottles let's pull in the the Ikea boxes I'll move the camera and we'll just get the cloth and bleach these walls just do it really carefully you have to dab at the walls and not uh Splash it I don't want to Splash it on the carpets because that really would bleach it but can you see how clean the skirting boards are coming up and that it's on the skirting boards and the walls it's pretty uh revolting stuff here

I'm trying not to disturb the the mold spores should really be wearing uh uh face guard but uh I'm hoping if I just do it quickly enough and with enough sterilizing fluid it will obliterate the the the lights mold that had grown behind the the sofa this room is just going to be so much more clean and healthy uh despite my poor lack of clothing there hanging out the back thanks for hitting the like or the Subscribe button it really helps me I really appreciate you coming along for the ride and right here is a video where I replaced the leather sofa with two Ikea Ektorp armchairs [Music]

EASY! How to install IKEA HOPPVALS blind... Hoppvals cellular blinds instructions

How do you put up an IKEA HOPPVALS blind? I've put up about 8 Hoppvals and finally sharing how I'm replacing another one of these cellular blind installation! Sharing how I install my next IKEA Hoppvals blind in the Hut with step by step instructions...

EASY BLINDS! How I install IKEA HOPPVALS blind!

Hello, welcome back to the Happy Hut, and we're going to fix this today.
Have you or are you thinking of getting the Ikea hoppvals cellular blind?
It looks like this on the Ikea website and in real life, it looks like this.
Let me get the camera.
So it's really clever. It's um, usually looks better than this, but it's got like these cellular um, things that contract.
It's like a fabric blind that kind of concertinas up when you open it, and there's a mechanism in here so you can pull it up and pull it down.
So going down's not a problem with this one, but as you can see when I try to lift it up, it gets a bit jammed. So I've bought a new one.
I've been using this daily for about 2 years now, and I've gone through a few of these.
They are good, they're really good, but they do have a really finite life. So I'm going to show you how to put up an Ikea hoppvals cellular blind. It is really easy, so hopefully you can follow along step by step.
Now I'm going to take this old one down, and I can show you how to do that as well. So the catches that we're going to fit, there's one here and one on the other side here, and they have buttons on them.
So if you press the... press the button in, it releases a catch. This is really difficult to do with one hand.
Let me put the tripod on. All we need to do is to push this catch in, and then you can rock it off the bracket, kind of push it off the lip at the back.
I can do this on the other side as well, push the button in, and then it has enough space to come off the metal bracket.
The problem with the Hoppvals, I absolutely love it, but over time there's like a string and pulley mechanism in here, and over time the string wears and there's like a... a coating for the string - wears down and that gets caught up in the in the pulley system.
So it works like a dream, and I'll show you. Look here's some uh, footage of future me opening and closing the Hoppvals blind from Ikea like nobody's business.
But this old one that's been going for a few years, the cord is all jammed up in the mechanism here, so it's time, it's time to move on and thank it for its service.
I have got a brand new Hoppvals on the desk here.
Let's open it up. Comes in some uh, different colours. I've gone for white to try and keep the inside of the happy Hut Bright.
Oh, look fantastic!
Look, they've completely changed it.
So well, this this is really good news.
So this I... I had... I haven't even put this up yet. I... and I endorse this blind.
Thank you Ikea because instead of you saw the old mechanism, it's now been replaced by a really large spring.
Oh, that's fantastic.
And the cord is much thicker, so hopefully that will last longer and it goes over the four pulleys over here.
So when blind goes up and blind goes down, I can't do this one-handed.
So when the blind goes up and blind goes down, let's see what happens to this pulley.
Can you see it? It pulls it along here, and it's counterbalanced by the the spring. So it pulls down really evenly, and then when I push it up, the spring takes up that slack.
Oh, this is going to be really good. So the only next bit which might be difficult is how to put the brackets up.
So you get a little box with the brackets - just open them up, and you also get a pull which goes on the end of the of the blind.
I'll show you how to put that on in a second, but you get these two brackets. So when you push the button, it releases the catch, it makes this gap narrower, and that means you can rock the... the top lip of the blind off the brackets.
Let's take down these two old brackets, and I can talk you through how to site the brackets, you know where to put the brackets on your wall or ceiling.
So just take this one out.
The great thing with Hoppvals blinds is that because they have this thing, they can clip anywhere to the bracket which means we don't have to be too precise with where we choose to put the brackets, just so long as it's anywhere in the middle to to hold it up.
So I try to put mine sort of near the outside just to take the weight on both sides, and the brackets - they have a couple of holes, a few holes in the top so they could be screwed to the ceiling which is what I've done, or there are a couple of holes on the side there so they could be screwed to a wall if that makes sense. So you've got some options there.
I've chosen to do it from the ceiling, and I've got a nice wood ceiling, so it's really easy to screw them in.
And I've put them... the width, I've put them apart is just literally anywhere on the inside, so you don't want them too close and in the middle, the further apart then the more... the more weight the more force they can take.
So let's get the other bracket down now.
I think you're meant to put two screws in. It's chancing it a bit to just use one, but I've been doing that for about 5 years now, and it seems to have worked which shows how good the system is.
And the advantage of putting two screws in is that they are they have to be perpendicular, they have to come out straight, it's dead straight you don't want it wonky.
Let's get the other bracket in there, we go, so now we have, let me show you closer, we have a dead right-angled bracket, one there, and one there, there I could even put another screw in the wall here, this is absolutely not going anywhere, it really works well.
The brackets are really nice and strong.
To get the blind onto the brackets, we are going to hook the blind over the back lip of that bracket there, and same on the other side, and then you can just kind of force it, and the spring will snap the button back in.
Obviously if you push the button in that's even easier, but I only had one hand, so now that's absolutely dead solid.
And if I hold the camera back, I can now pull the blind down and demonstrate just how smooth this is, it's so good, there's a spring in there now, amazing.
I'm going to tear off the sticker, well it's left a nice bit of uh, residue there, and now I can use this tag.
This is where you're really supposed to pull the blind down, I'm going to put it in the middle and I'll hook this at the back, hopefully I can snap it on, let's see if I can snap it on, I think the way to do this is to force it on and get it to snap, it's going to feel like it's breaking, but trying to slide it on really didn't work for me, so let's let's see if I can force it on this way.
Yeah there you go, you just force it over like that, learn from my mistake.
And then you can shimmy it around once it's on.
And then to put the blind back onto the brackets once again, I'll hook it from the back on the brackets, and then I'm just, I'm going to push the buttons this time.
And that will hold your Hoppvals blind.
Let me get the old blind, just to say I am calling this a dad delivers success!

We bought this very expensive IKEA sun shade, and now sharing with you whether this Selgaro parasol can cope with the weather!

3 years on! IKEA PARASOL REVIEW: is SEGLARO good in the Sun AND Rain?! ⛱🌞🌧

Hello, welcome back to the channel.
Today is a very special day. It is quite literally the last day of sunshine in my country this year, so I thought it would be a really good chance for me to show you what it's been like having an Ikea SEGLARO parasol for 3 years.
Three years, this has survived and it's in much better shape. Let me take you over here. It's in much better shape than the applaro table worked out. I've made a video about that but to put over the table we bought the eye wateringly expensive for us SEGLARO parasol. We didn't go for the base, we just used slabs which have quite conveniently they had corners taken out so they fit really well but square concrete slabs would have worked. There you are probably aware that there's a special Ikea base for this. It's about half the price of the SEGLARO parasol. It was way too much for us. It's over, I think it's something like $100, it's £100 over here in the UK but let me show you how it's fared.
We've left. You've probably got some questions. I'm not sure I'll answer them all but it might give you a better idea if spending this amount of money on a sun shade is a good idea or not.
We got this 3 years ago. We weren't sure whether or not we should leave it outside. Well, we didn't have any option. It's so big and heavy you can't move it anywhere. We probably should have bought the parasol... parasol? Parasol cover. That probably wasn't a good idea not covering it up because you can probably see there's green. It looks like mold but it's just, um, I think it's just like tree growth. What would you call it? It's like a green staining that's happened to the fabric. We haven't tried washing it off because we didn't want to ruin the waterproofness of the parasol fabric. I think my worry at the time was if you put a cover over it, it would get damp inside and it would actually grow mold. The exact opposite happened. I thought the rain would keep it clean but, uh, you can probably see that that idea didn't work out for me so you might want to invest in a 220 cm parasol cover for your SEGLARO parasol. Let me give you a closer look and show you how it's been for us. It's been absolutely fantastic by the way, really happy with it. It's got a clip here which holds the whole unit to the pillar so that if you're having a storm or bad weather it keeps it tight and stops it from blowing around. It's really easy to unclip. Just squeeze that, that releases the fabric and then let me show you the, the, the crucial handle which is really nicely designed I think. This is what it's like after 3 years so it's in really good condition. We haven't cleaned it or anything so what you do it is push the button. I can do it one-handed while holding the camera. You push the button in to release the teeth and then you can push it up with one hand. So it's a bit difficult doing this while holding the camera as well but it shows you how easy it is that brings out the bar to here and you can push it all the way up to the top. Now I'll crank the handle and that pulls this cord that will pull this bottom bit up to the top and that will open up the parasol so let's just open this up now. That's quite impressive, it's huge. It's absolutely massive so we can get this large table underneath the parasol. I need to stand back a bit so you can see it all. What can I tell you, this has had absolutely no maintenance. It's had no cleaning and we've just taken it completely for granted for 3 years solid. Now there is some discoloration on the fabric and there are actually some tiny holes which I'll show you. I'll also show you in a moment what this looks like when the weather isn't so good because we've had it up in rain. I think I he say you can use it in light showers but it's it's pretty big to put it out in windy conditions but this has been out in heavy rain as a sun shade, it's absolutely perfect. The, you can angle it so let me let me show you how that works if you push the button. It's quite impressive and then pull it down can you see it, it sort of comes up and acts as a total sunblock and well I think technically they say it's not UV 100% UV sunblock but look at that look it's completely blocks to the sun. We have an Ikea sofa and a really large Ikea dining table which can get six people around it if you... if you squeeze in.
It's quite a large table, and this SEGLARO parasol does look at the shade that it throws, and you can adjust it really easily. I'll show you that in a moment as well, but having something this big, I thought would be a bit ridiculous, but it has really helped on super sunny, super hot days to stop people from frying in the garden on the patio here. To put it back up into more like a roof-like position, you just do the reverse, so we click the button, and again, this is all one hand, and that brings it into whatever position you want. To angle it down at the bottom, it's got this little key that holds it in place, and there are these notches, so I can now twist this again one-handed with the camera, and you can turn the pole, the central pole around. So, I'm shooting into the sun, you can't see it, you can just turn it. I can't turn it much more than that because it'll hit the garage. We can turn it like this. You can just hold the handle and hang on. I use my other hand to spin this around so we can turn it the other way. So, you've got a complete 360° turn here. I'm just blocked by the garage behind us, so that stops me from turning it all the way around, but you get the idea, right? This is probably because we didn't have a cover one year, where we can see it, there's a hole there which I think is probably caused by a bug. It might have been an ember from a fire, but I think it's more likely a bug has snacked on that. That's the only hole that we have on what is a massive expanse of fabric, so I'm really pleased with how it's weathered. This is the discoloration again. I was hoping that the sunshine would somehow burn it off or the rain would wash it off, but it's not too ugly, so we've just left it how it is. I remember when we first saw it in the Ikea showroom, it just seemed really super expensive and super massive. Even in the showroom, it looks, it doesn't look small, and neither does the price tag. What I think has helped is it looks really good. The aluminum pole and handle haven't rusted at all, they look as in good condition as when we bought it. The ease with being able to unfurl it, open the parasol and close the parasol, it's just really easy, even the kids can do it, and we like how it looks when it's open and when it's folded up. So overall, it’s... It's been a really good purchase. It has actually lasted way longer than I thought it would and it's been used a lot more than I thought it would. I thought it would just be a bit of shade over the table for when, you know, on the three occasions that we eat out here but we've had loads of family over and it just really helps having that area where the sofas are covered as well as the table. It's just a bit of shade in the garden on the patio. I don't think I'm going to be opening it up when the storm that comes tomorrow. I'm going to keep this lashed up. I'll show you how I take it down. This is what the Ikea SEGLARO parasol is like in really bad super bad weather. We've got a storm coming and, uh, let me just show you what it's like. So I got the kids enjoying themselves on the trampoline. I don't know if you can still hear me but this is how the Ikea SEGLARO parasol looks in the rain. If you are wondering whether or not it's waterproof, it's holding out. It doesn't leak even though there are a couple of holes in it. It's absolutely watertight. I don't think it's designed to be used in the rain and I think Ikea would probably really advise against using it in the rain but look, you can see the rain just running off. Let me go to the corner here. It's working out really well as a, what as an umbrella as if to prove the waterproofness of the SEGLARO. Look, I've got these other Ikea products not the cap but these are drying out because they got caught in the rain and we've had that underneath the parasol and you can see these are absolutely bone dry. If you can get your chairs underneath the parasol, it really works as a bit of brain cover but we do only do this very very very rarely so we wouldn't advise you do it but it... it holds out. I am calling this an Ikea dad delivers success by the way. I made this whole video 3 years ago about the assembling the Ikea SEGLARO parasol how we bought it how we put it together and what it was like for the first time so this video shows you what it looks like when it's fresh out of the boxes and how big those boxes are if you want to see how the parasol looks when it's pristine like this that link to that video is down in the description or on screen now.

Girl's bedroom storage idea: IKEA Rashult Trolley!

Looking for storage inspiration ideas for your kids teen bedroom? We're trying out this IKEA RASHULT TROLLEY: it has three storage trays, and the height of the middle one is adjustable. The trolley comes with sturdy castors and this video shows how easy the assembly instructions are (they aren't!) I put this Rashult trolley together step by step in the video so you can follow along. We chose the Rashult instead of the Raskog so that it would fit under our daughter's desk. If you're looking for teen girl bedroom inspo decor ideas, or IKEA Rashult reviews you might enjoy this video!

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
Hello, welcome back to the channel. I've not done one of these in a long time, one of my Ikea dad videos.
Let's close the door because my wife and daughter are watching Gladiators next door, and I've got Casper just making a mess, and you probably hear him chomping in the background there. Today, we're opening this, the Rashult. I don't know what you call it; it's a trolley.
It's a trolley of trays, I guess. It's a storage trolley, and it's for my daughter, and it's from Ikea, so that makes this an Ikea dad video!
This is what it looks like after I've built it.
I mean, it's a really tall trolley, but it comes in a small cardboard package like this. So this was the only thing we bought in Ikea, well, apart from the meatballs and six hot dogs and two fries, but this is the only thing we managed to buy on this trip, which was very restrained, I think, and it's very strategic.
This is for my daughter's new bedroom makeover. This is one of the first things to go in there, so it won't look like this in the future, but this is just one step towards the new future for my teenage daughter.
Well, she soon to be teenage, not a teenager yet.
So let's open up.
I've got the steak knife, you know, the... all the American vloggers use, a really crazy piece of knife work. I've got... I'm not going to use the steak knife.
I'm going to use the Ikea scissors, and I've only just found out the Ikea scissors no longer exist in Ikea, so that makes these vintage scissors. So I'd better take care of them now.
So this is how the Rashult trolley arrives.
I've got the instructions.
I'm hoping this will be an easy one, but I thought I'd share this with you in case you're searching for Rashult trolley or kids' bedroom ideas or teen kids' bedroom inspo, and this is what comes in the package.
I didn't ask how much this was; I was busy queuing up for the hot dogs.
So we get three trays, there are two sizes as well.
We could have got one that's 65 cm tall and another one that was 78, I think.
But we'll speed this up, so let's start the speed build now, and I'll just talk all over it, and I'll try and point out things along the way.
Now, this is looking really straightforward because the way I think this works, this is how the instructions look, by the way, and it looks as if all we've got to do is to put these interlocking poles into one another.
So we'll just snap the poles together, well, no, you just push the poles together, and then we use a screw. I'll need my screwdriver to hold these poles in place.
And the most difficult thing is to actually find the right poles and to get them the right way round so that there is only one way that you can put these together.
So these poles slot into each other, but you've got to slot the right poles together, and it all depends on the little kink in one of the double poles that we've got here.
Now right from the get-go, I think I messed this up.
I find it really difficult; I instantly put the poles round the wrong way round, and it is... it is quite difficult to match up how they bend outwards and where the brackets at the end should go.
So I try... I put them together.
I'm not quite sure that it was right, so I take them apart again and look at the picture.
And actually, I think there is only one way that they can go because the holes on the end of one pole only match up one way round with the holes of the pole that slots inside the pole, if that makes sense.
So I just jiggle them around and stare at them a bit longer, and now I can go in with my completely wrong screwdriver.
It's a flathead screwdriver; you need a Phillips one.
And we're going to screw in these tiny, tiny... I thought they'd be big and silver, but they're tiny black kind of stud screws that just go in here to hold the poles in place.
The next step is to assemble the base, and that involves these four pieces.
The hardest part with this trolley, this Rashult trolley, is to work out which bit corresponds to which bit in the instructions. But once you have a look and manage to make the link, it seems to be okay.
So for the base, the easiest way to spot which bit goes with which is that there's only one way that the two poles can interlock.
You kind of push them together and twist them, and they stay in place.
And then we can get the two legs that we just built, and they go either side of the base locking the two base legs together.
Again, it's a pole fitting inside a pole, so it is really easy to go in once you've worked out which bit goes where and which way around.
And then we hold these in place with four screws, those tiny black screws.
I'm just putting two in on the left-hand side and two in on the right-hand side just to keep those locked together.
This doesn't feel like the sturdiest trolley in the world.
I guess these screws are going to hold, I hope, and if they don't, I'll just screw them again, tighten them up later on.
By the way, hello.
But by the way, sorry if there's some noise in the background, but Casper's having his dinner, and he's having trouble... he's having trouble keeping the bowl in the thing that holds the bowl in place.
So he's kind of taken the bowl for a walk around the kitchen.
It's rice and peas and beef and biscuits, one of his specialties, and he is evenly distributing it across the floor and his ears and anywhere else it will go.
I should put the bowl back into the silicone holder, really, but he seems to be getting some extra exercise from it, so we might as well leave him to do his thing.
It's going to take even more shape now; it's going to get noisy because we are going to put the trays into the frame.
But the instructions say they've got to go a particular way, a particular way round.
I'm going to do it because it's like a crease or a fold on the side of the trays.
So I'm going to have all of those on the same side, and the idea of it is, I think the bottom one will be locked, the top one will be locked, and the middle one is adjustable using these clips that kind of hold them in place.
So the first thing we're going to do is slide this one over, get it down to the bottom, and we need two of these plates on either side.
They... they all look like identical.
So I get two here and two there, and then they are held in place by these bolts.
I put one here and one inside the tray.
Then we've got to get all the holes to line up, so I put this into the bracket; it's got a square bit on it to hold it in place.
I'll push that in.
I've really got the Gladiators theme in my head; I really want to sing it or play it to you, but I don't want to get a copyright strike, so you have to imagine the British Gladiators theme, the '90s version.
Tell you what, I'll recite it to you while I'm assembling the brackets on the trays.
"Do you feel the power of the Gladiators? Can you face the challenge of the Champions?
Do you have the courage of a hero?
Do you have the will and the skill?"
Okay, so I got it wrong, ignore the last bit.
Basically, there's only one on each side, there's one bracket here and one bracket here, and the bolt goes through, and there's like a nut that holds it on the other side.
And now we get to tighten the nut; they very generously given us two spanners.
I suppose that's just assuming that someone will be here to help you or maybe they think you're going to snap it or something.
And then the bolt is held in place by the square hole, so all we have to do is just tighten the bolts with the provided wrench, and we can tighten this nut.
I always go too far with this and over-tighten and end up wrecking the thing, but I'll still do it with this one, so we'll just tighten these bolts.
The next part of the instructions kind of gone a bit crazy now because it's suggesting we can put it on its side.
Don't forget to put the middle tray down; otherwise, we won't be able to get it in.
And I'm trying to do it so that the folds are all on one side, so just guide this in, and it does advise don't put the trays into each other because I think it would just scratch the paintwork, so I think that's why they're advising doing this on its side so this doesn't get scratched into the bottom tray.
And now we can put the brackets on this top tray; let's speed this up.
So I don't know it yet, but I'm doing this completely wrong, and I'll tell you why in a moment, but let's just enjoy for a moment this speeded-up footage of me turning a bolt round and round and round, wondering why it's not locking but still turning it anyway.
There's something really wrong with this bolt on one side; the other one goes in, and it goes in really easily and really well.
So I'm thinking, well, maybe that holds it in place, and I just can't work out.
So I'm squeezing harder between the poles and the tray just to make the trolley bolt together, and it's not... it's just spinning around.
And I think it took me far too long to work out why.
Oh, I've done it [Laughter] wrong, okay, so it could not be clearer, and I've managed to screw it up.
I've completely forgotten to put the brackets.
If I can zoom in on the edit, I'm twisting this thing, and the bolt's going round and round and round, and I'm thinking, but it should be held in place.
Well, it would be if I'd put the bracket on that you're supposed to do.
Why is it so hard?
So now I've got to take the bolt off... it comes off really easily.
So this goes through the bracket, which would be really obvious.
I don't know why I missed that.
That's really—I think it's because it's on its side; it broke my flow.
Let me give you a closer look of what this bolt situation is like.
They give you a wrench that fits exactly, but you have to kind of lock it over the bolt each time to give it a twist.
And this is really giving me an arm exercise and a half.
But all we need to do is to keep turning this bolt with the brackets on the other side, and eventually, it holds the top tray in place.
This is the creative part; we get to choose where this middle tray goes.
You can choose... it can go wherever you want because the bracket can hopefully hold it in place.
So if you want some like tall bottles at the bottom, you can put it higher up, and if you want it—I'm going to have it pretty much equal just so it looks nice.
You can configure it how you want, go crazy with the middle shelf.
This bit is way too tough; it's a lot harder than I think because the poles are held apart by the top tray and the bottom tray; it's really difficult to get the bolt through and meet the nut in the middle.
There's no give in it at all.
I'm using all my strength to hold the bolt and actually push it through the hole far enough to get a thread through so I can get the nut on.
I think it might be easier to go against the instructions and do the middle one first, and that way, you've got a bit more play at the top.
But doing it in the middle means that the middle poles are fixed, so it's really difficult to squeeze through the bolt and get it to latch and hold the thing in place.
Dammit!
What I'm going to try now is I'm going to have to take the top tray off, and I'll try and put the middle tray on first and see if that works.
It is really energy-zapping to have to undo your work, and I end up doing this every time I put something together with Ikea.
Maybe it's just my brain; maybe I'm unable to follow the instructions correctly.
But every time, I have to undo the work to get the work done.
If you face this with your Ikea Adventures, say hi in the comments below because I'm sure I'm the only one who has to do it, and then completely undo it to do it back up again.
And I'm also dropping the bolts all over the floor.
It’s at this point of the build that just sucks, and I just want to finish it. My family wants to eat their dinner, but I've got this all over the dinner table, so I've got to get this done. I've got to get it done. Oh, Casper, what's up?
[DOG BARKS]
What, it's pretty that naughty Black Cat from up the street, probably outside.
He can sense it.
Mind you, he goes nuts when we open the Loft so, oh no, what!
Okay, so the—sorry about the noise in the background.
But I would say definitely do the middle one first and do it loosely, and then do the top one to hold it in place.
The only problem with it is that it does—it will scratch the paintwork.
If you're too rough with it, so I'm just going to do it this way.
And now the slightly more fun part of... because I’m getting a bit grumpy.
The slightly more fun part of screwing on or bolting on the four caster wheels.
These wheels look really good; I think they look really substantial. They feel substantial; I mean, they don't have to take much weight
These wheels look really good; I think they look really substantial.
They feel substantial; I mean, they don't have to take much weight because of the flimsy trays.
But my tip with this is to use the nut that's closest to the wheel as the one to turn.
So there's another loose nut on the caster so you could adjust the height of the wheels if you wanted to by about a centimetre or half an inch.
But I'm screwing the nut all the way down tightly so that the whole wheel can just twist into place, and there won't be any height adjustments.
It will hopefully be as tight as possible on the base of this Ikea Rashult trolley.
This is what Ikea says about the Rashult trolley:
"The sturdy construction and casters make it easy for you to move the trolley and use it wherever you like. It even fits in tight spaces because of its small size. The trolley is easy to adapt to suit what you want to store in it because the middle shelf is adjustable.”
It's got lots of storage capacity in it, and I suppose being able to move the middle shelf might be useful if you've got some bigger things than others. It fits in quite well; we're going to try and put this under the desk, so it'll be kind of like under-desk storage.
And because of the four caster wheels, she'll be able to pull it out whenever she wants and tuck it under, hopefully out of the way.
You can get the Rashult in these different colours; we went for the cream one because this will be the look for the new bedroom renovation.
This isn't it yet; this is just the—I've got to emphasize this is just the first step in the transformation for my teen daughter's bedroom.
