Taking an easy free online hearing test

Or try listening to a nice book on Audible with a free trial

Am I deaf?! That's a question I'm asked a lot by my family. Is it inattention? Is it me not caring? Or is it my delicious ADHD? It could be any or all of these! But I'm taking a free online hearing test to narrow things down. If I pass, my deafness has no excuses. Huh? What? No I completely heard what you just said. In low frequency and high frequency. I just choose not to tell you what you just said.

Deaf or Distracted? FREE Online Hearing Test!

Hello, welcome back to the channel. I'm Neil. This is the Dad Delivers Vlog, where I try new things every day to make your family happy. And today, I'm gonna find out: am I deaf? It's something that my brilliant and very patient wife has to put up with a lot, but I don't know if it's a problem with my ears or if it's just another part of the whole ADHD dad thing. I'm pretty sure it's the ADHD dad thing, and I'm gonna make a video about me taking an ADHD test online. But, first, I'm going to do the deafness test first. So, this is a free online test, and I just saw it pop up online and thought, "Well, I might as well give it a go." I know nothing about it, so you're going to follow along. You can play along with me, and why not put your results down in the comments below? It'd be great to see how we all compare.

So, this is the RNID, which I believe is the deaf charity here in the UK, and they've got this thing online. I'll put a link to it down in the description. And I guess I'll just press the "Check Your Hearing Test." Whoa, okay, it's getting personal, but let's put in our name and address and email. So, we've got some nice, friendly icons here. "How it works?" So, I've got to find a quiet place. We've got the missus doing vital gardening work in the background. You can probably hear. We've got a plane flying over, but I think this is pretty much as quiet as it's going to get. Wear headphones or earphones. Well, I'm checked out on that front, so I should be able to hear.

The digits: 069. The digits: 069. The laptop's set up. We're ready to go. Let's start. The check: the digits: three, five, two. Right, so I heard that. That's three, five, two. Next, the digits. I think it's about five or eight, nine. I'll go: oh, eight. The digits: nine, three, six. Eight, nine, five. I think... digits. Oh, no, is that one, six, one, or one, zero, one? Oh, I guess that's one, six, one. Oh, I'm not sure about that one. Didn't hear that, so... What happens if I press question mark? Oh, no, I don't question. What? Okay, I'll put eight, nine, one. Oh, this is gonna be fun to hear back in the edit. I think that's one, three, four.

Six, two, nine. It's... you know what? It's really hard to hear. I don't know if you can hear it on the edited video, but for me, it's... I'm having to really concentrate. Next number: I think that's four, eight, three. I'm really concentrating, though. Did you get digit 392?

Okay, we're halfway through. I don't know, 5, 40. That's a pure guess. Two, five, something. Try 252. Now, if this is an online guessing test, I think I'd be acing this right now. 200, definitely heard that. See, I can... I'm attuned to the word o.

Five, six, four. Do you know, if I'm not concentrating at the right point, it... it's curtains. If you can hear the cat next door, I can hear that. Does that count? I'll type in "cats." Hit me.

I think that was 929. Eight, something, nine. That's pure guess. I think that was four, one, six. Almost there. One more to go.

I think that's four, one, one. It wasn't, but I'll just put that in anyway. Put me out of my misery. Oh, that's good. Your result suggests you do not have hearing loss. I wish they'd tell me the number. The correct numbers, the ones I failed. Find out what you can do to help protect your hearing for the future. Okay, well, that's good. I'm kind of relieved.

So, it's as easy as that. I am calling this a Dad Delivers Success. Well, I guess I'm going to just have to do the ADHD test now, aren't I? It's apparently not hearing loss, so I can't use that as an excuse anymore, unfortunately. But how is this working out for you? Let me know down in the comments below. It'd be great to hear your experiences with this. And if you've reached this point of the video, thanks for hitting the thumbs up. And if you hit the Subscribe button, we'll take some more tests together to find out what else is wrong with us. And right here is what YouTube knows that you're gonna love watching next.

How to stop procrastinating... Neil Mossey | Nanochunk is your FRIEND! Make Your Stuff Now

Got something that you really truly want to do, but just haven't started on it yet?
This is hands down the best way to stop procrastinating...
It's so good, that I hold back from using it because I know that when I start it won't stop until it's finished.

I call it Experimental Nano-Chunking.
We've all tried breaking things down to become simpler tasks.
But this involves breaking it down to the tiniest, smallest possible task.
And combining it with treating it like an experiment.

I walk you through the system, and filmed myself trying it out in real time on a few tasks I've been putting off. Experimental Nano-Chunking is so powerful, I ended up knocking all three out of the park having been knocking them back for months.

HOW TO ENGRAVE A MACBOOK PRO

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

Hello I'm Neil Mossey, welcome back to the Happy Hut
I am a development producer: I help other people like creators and performers and executives to get ideas out of their heads to make people laugh. Most of the time intentionally!
I have done it a very long time - look, back when I even had hair... but I've got two secrets that I want to share with you in this video.

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

The first secret is that I put off making stuff.
I am really good at putting stuff off - and that's me being modest
I think... no, I know that I am one of the leading procrastinators in Britain today
I'm putting off stuff right now even while I'm talking to you.
Look at this wall

Look how much I'm putting off right now. That's all me!
So for this procrastination buster video you are in really good hands
My second secret is this: I think I have got the world's best technique for how to stop procrastinating
It's so good that I procrastinate from using it.

That if I even start using it, I always follow through with what I want to do - which is the thing that I'm putting off
I call it experimental Nano-chunking

[DEEP VOICE:] NANO-CHUNK!
See, making that jingle meant that I could put off making this video just a little bit longer - you know make the process just a little bit more complicated

Leave a comment below, I'd love to know how your brain sabotages you
I'm going to walk you through experimental Nano-chunking and it's come from me putting together two ways to stop procrastinating

The first came from this guy, Tony Robbins - I'll put a link down below in the description but in here - it's a thick book - he proposes an idea called chunking, which is all about breaking down a big task down into manageable chunks

So, writing a book might be a thing that you want to do today but that is too big and overwhelming so that you'll always put it off
He proposes chunking which is breaking it down into chunks like... write a chapter of a book or do some research

But even with that, I ended up with just lists of tasks
I carry these around with me is like a big stream of guilt
I call it a permafrost of tasks because I can't chisel away at it
To get around this I took chunking to an extreme and I combined it with two other ideas to create experimental Nano-chunking

[DEEP VOICE:] NANO-CHUNK!
And I'm gonna show you how it works
It all started with this over here

This is a hook that I use to hang up my bag
It's a really important thing because I put my equipment in here and take it home each night - and it was really annoying me that it was on the floor

For whatever reason I wasn't putting up this hook and this is the actual list where I created the technique of experimental nano-chunking
I wish I could remember who said it
It's a really beautiful single line: "Treat everything like it's an experiment"
I'll say it again "treat everything as an experiment".

The problem we have is that we want things to be perfect and we want the outcome to be ideal
That just stops us from from doing stuff

We put up these blocks to protect ourselves because if we do something and it doesn't come out right, deep down we feel like our life is under threat - even though it's not

It's a thing called the resistance

This is a brilliant book as well - The War of Art by Steven Pressfield
Again I'll put the link below but he described the resistance which is this thing within us that stops us from doing the stuff that we really want to do and the great thing with the experimental nano-chunking is that it gets you around the resistance, because you are just treating everything like it's an experiment

It means that you can just try stuff out
And this is what I tried out.

I wrote down "what if I have my pad here and write out every what if as it occurs"
Well I did that task already so I could instantly cross it off
Then I wrote out "what if I were to put off wormmate until after the next what if?"

Now that was the online distraction of the day and that actually made me laugh and I think that is the secret of experimental nano-chunking, that you've got to write down these chunks in ways that are so stupidly small that it makes you laugh - actually makes you laugh out loud

But I realised that I had chunked down the task of putting up this hook for my bag down to the tiniest possible chunk, and so I'd given birth to the Nano-chunk

[DEEP VOICE:] NANO-CHUNK!
Which meant that I could now do the next tiniest possible nano-chunk
What if I were to hold my bag up to the wall to see where a hook might go?
And I did that and I hadn't died so I could cross it off the pad

I realised with experimental nanochunking that you have to do the smallest possible task and not cross it out and move on with your life until you've done it
I'd already done more about this hook in two minutes than I had in two months

What if I get a pencil?
I couldn't move on until I had got a pencil

What if - and I love that I wrote the next one with the pencil - what if I mark the midpoint with the bag (I might have to OCD a tape measure)
Now that's good. I could already see how I would over complicate this nano task and I preempted it and actually wrote it out

What if I go to the garage and fetch the drill box and bits?
Now here's how procrastination works. Already, because I'm making progress, my mind is flipping out all over the place and I'm throwing in all these other ideas and tasks so I just wrote it out as the next line - as the next Nano chunked task

What if I text Rob to tell him about JMcH or call.
That has absolutely nothing to do with me putting up a hook for my bag on the wall
I wrote it down and I did it and then I crossed it off the list
It's really important not to write more than one nano chunk at a time
The really dangerous thing with this system is that you can instantly think of lots and lots of little tasks and write them all down to work through, but as soon as you get more than one task it falls apart every time

You have to do it one line at a time

What if I mark the thing on the wall?
Now here the list ends and goes onto other tasks because I actually carried on and put the hook out
This system of experimental Nano chunking works

It's just a what if
It's not an order or a task

The other thing I found is that it helps to write the What If? as a process and not an outcome
So the What If is about doing something instead of how it turns out, and I'll show you that on these two examples

I managed to film myself back in January trying to get over making my video about a head shaver, and again last week when I made my DIY T-shirt face mask video
For both of those I really wanted to make the videos, but everything in my brain - the resistance - was telling me don't do it

You probably do this too
Leave me a message below if you do

It's either "the head shaver video is going to be rubbish so I don't want to start it yet" or the other extreme, "the DIY face mask video is really good so I don't want to start it yet and mess it up"
That's chronic procrastination

So let's see how I use experimental Nano chunking to do the things that I want to do
Okay here's a-- ahh, there you are!
This is a really good example

I've been putting off making a video about a new head shaver and I really want to make it because it's really difficult finding a good head shaver and there's some things that I think I want to say about what - is it called elective baldness?
I don't know - I'm kidding myself because I'm bald but I also shave my head
There's something funny in that
I want to explore that
I've got the system here

I'm just starting to do the system so why don't I turn the camera on and and record the process of using the Nano chunking experiment to actually crack a creative project that I want to make and put out into the world
So here's the list right here, but the first thing I wrote was "what if I go and get the key and plug in the Hut"

Yeah there wasn't any power on so I've plugged in the hut, so I've got power now
What if I get all the gear I can
So did that and I crossed it off and I'm writing these one at a time but I've just skipped ahead with this one
What if I warm up the hut to more than 13 degrees centigrade - so I've got the fan going

You can probably hear that
What if I get the tripod
Well I can do that now
There. Got the tripod
So now I cross that off the list
So what would the next one be

The next one would be "what if I put up the tripod" because I've got an idea for this video to have two cameras and I've got my setup here, so that I'll put one camera - well there goes the tripod - I put one camera there and then I can put this tripod up with these arms to get a second camera looking down

Even if it's a rubbish video and I think this is gonna be a terrible video - it's worth me doing this to have a new system for shooting two camera videos

My videos might be a little bit better, and I think that's why we stop doing these things because we know we're gonna get a little bit better at something
Anyway let's put the tripod up

So it's a bit difficult to do this one-handed
Now I've got my setup done I'll take a look at the temperature over here
It's now gone above something where I'll freeze my toes off so I can turn the heater off now and even better I can cross that to do item off my Nano chunk list

So I'm now up to date - I can still carry on writing one at a time
I find it helps to speak to myself like I'm five so I keep the language very very blunt
"What if I go and get the shaver?"

I love this system because it means I can devote myself completely to one single task
I've only got one task right now, and that's to get the shaver from over there to over there - it's all I need to do
There's the shaver - YOINK!
[MUSIC]

Here I am with the shaver, and I've got the camera in place now
I've got a second camera just slightly out of shot so I can film the table and I think... I think I'm set!
Except I'm not as you can probably hear the sound's a bit rubbish, so I need to go and get the- the microphone.

I can cross this off now, write:
"What if I get my microphone?"
Out I go again. Ugh! Slippers!
[Music]

So now I've got the microphone... Oh I need to shut that!
So now I've got the microphone, I can cross that off my list
Off that goes.

I need to get things ready in here.
"What if I open, no, close the blind - oh - and plug the microphone in."
So I've written that on the list now, I can now plug this in - so that now works - hopefully that sounds better
Make sure this is switched off, I need to take my coat off and get ready
[MUSIC]

I'm kind of on a point of no return, and that's that's the thing with this nano chunking system - is that you do reach a point where you're kind of all in and it suddenly becomes a hassle to write down every nano- task
Sometimes I help for it to keep going, to keep them super small, so that you don't just suddenly stop - but...

I think I've now got absolutely everything in place for a task that I didn't want to do, even though I really wanted to do it, I haven't actually taken action to get started with it
And now I've got everything in place. I've got my second camera. I've got my microphone. I've got the Hut looking sort of how I want it to. It's still not perfect. I think the lighting isn't just right yet. I'm not entirely happy with how this second camera looks.

Let's hit record on that so I can show you
This isn't quite how I'd want it. I think I want the shot a bit wider, but I've got everything here that I need.
So then I hit record and made the video about the hair clippers.
I honestly thought that nobody would watch it.
Little did I know that two months later, international catastrophe emergency conditions: the entire planet has to stay at home and cut their own hair.

Suddenly the views of this thing go up tenfold and my video actually starts helping people to find the right hair clippers.
If this video is helping why not hit the like button to help other people find it, or the subscribe button to help me get to 10,000 subscribers - really appreciate it
Anyway here's the next example of Nano chunking.

It's actually the opposite kind of procrastination where I actually wanted to make something because I thought it was actually quite good!
Okay so this is a tough video to shoot
I'm stuck, and it's quite difficult to admit that I'm stuck. I'm gonna put the lights on.

So I'm stuck on, I'm stuck on this: look over here.
"Make a CPAP mask-- not a CPAP -- make a face mask with a t-shirt
It's a really simple dumb idea - something I really want to do
I really want to make a mask and I really want to make a video
Why can't I just make a video of me making a mask?

I've completely turned it into something bigger than it is, but I'm stuck and I've been sitting on this idea for about two weeks now?
So what I've decided to do is to get the camera out and make it even more complicated! Make a video about the video about the face mask
It's not because it's not a good idea - it is the exact opposite

It's because I know it's a really good idea as something that I really wanted to do and the more I want to do it the more I seem to block doing it
The resistance is that thing that when you have a good idea everything in your brain and body will conspire to stop you from doing it

And there's all kinds of biological reasons why we're programmed this way
Basically by doing something you really want to do - that represents change
And change biologically represents death, because you might change something and it might not work out and then you will die!

Okay that's how we're wired
So I'm going to use this system now to free me from this block
I hope it frees me from this block.
At least it's a thing to do while I'm not doing the thing.
I've done some free writing, just to bring my brain.

Look six pages of things in my head.
Got to the Nano chunking list, and this is my first nano chunking task
We're gonna break down all the tasks down to the absolute tiniest level
Open the t-shirt script in Google Docs

So I'll do that now
Scripts in here
I've got one document where I put all my YouTube ideas into, and my block is basically going through them and choosing them and making a decision and I still don't want to make a decision
So what I'm going to do now is everything except make a decision, so I can do all this other work and move it forward without having yet to make a decision

I'm gonna make that as small a thing as possible
It's really important when you're nano chunking to only write down one thing at a time
Only one tiny tiny tiny task, and cross it off as a little achievement for each step
So my next step would be: print out what I've got

I'll write down "print out T-shirt ideas"
[MUSIC]

So I've got all my t-shirt ideas here then the next step would be to read them
That's all.

Just read them, so I'm gonna get a nice drink and just read through them and I don't have to do anything else.
All I've got to do is just read what I've got
That's my one tiniest smallest task that I can think of right now apart from sit down and get a pen
[Music]

Can I just say, cos I know I'm recording here - I so didn't want to read through these that I've ended up actually writing
I'm actually writing the script instead of doing what I should be doing - which is reading these!

That's okay because I wanted to read these to get to this, but what I have now done is to avoid THIS - I'm now doing THIS.
It sort of works
[Music]

Oh sometimes this happens.
You get started on the Nano chunk task which was for me to sit down with a nice drink and to just read through what I've got, and then all these other things pop into your head of all these other things you should be doing

But if one comes up like "I need to get my glasses", what I do is... I do write that down as another task. Do it quickly, and then cross it off there and then.

So if other things start popping into your head like "I just need to check that" or "I need to get that" write them down as nano chunks and- and do them in order, and then you'll have to go back to the Nano chunk that triggered or these other thoughts

So you're still Nano chunking - don't move away from the Nano chunking.
Make the tasks even smaller - even smaller - even more ridiculous
Get my glasses.

Okay so here's an example now of the kind of stuff that will come up to just stop you from doing what you're doing

I'm on a point now where I want to find a clip that I want to put into the video and I know I've got that clip on an email - so I've gone into email and I've just seen a email from my accountant and I've just spent 20 minutes reading it and replying to it.

So I've been thrown off the nano chunking horse
What I should have done is to write down as a nano chunk: "Open the email" and do that afterwards - so I have the impulse, I do it.
So I've fallen off the horse.
It's okay, don't give yourself a hard time, but write down as soon as you can onto your list, and then cross it off.

So I'm now going to do what I'm supposed to do which is to look up a link from a video that I want to put into the script

I don't know why I write some things on the Nano chunk as capitals?
Works out some kind of anger or something!

Another good tip for the Nano chunking is to write down nano chunks that aren't very difficult, so instead of "write three pages of script" I put something a bit more easy which is to just "do writing for 25 minutes"
That's just - that's just "write" - so it doesn't matter what the outcome is.
It's just the process .

If you can make your nano chunks about the process rather than the outcome you'll find it even more easy to do
There I've done it!
I've actually written it's... 1 2 3 4 5 pages of scripts
I-- if my task had been "Write five pages of script" I just would not have done it.
Thanks to Nano chunking

[DEEP VOICE:] NANO-CHUNK!
Thanks to nano chunking - the task was - and I quote: "Open the t-shirts document in Google Docs"
That's all I had to do, just open the document, and then when you've done that... well you could just do the next nano chunk task... and when you break down the tasks down to the tiniest tiniest nano chunk, just do that chunk, and before you know it... a five page script.
So now I'll need to nano chunk the next... task... which is filming it

I even ended up shooting the video!
That's how powerful the Nano chunking is.

Respect the Nano chunking!

Not only did I end up making the video, two days later BBC News got in touch.
They wanted to use a clip for the six o'clock news bulletin that night

[NEWS REPORTER:] People can make them at home using anything from old t-shirts to bedding sheets.
Two of these guys are gonna get the chop, quite literally.
[NEWS REPORTER:] This dad from Hampshire tried making a t-shirt mask for himself on his YouTube channel.
My ears aren't coping very well with the elastic bands.

If I hadn't have made it, and made it right now, that would not have happened.

It's another reminder of "make your stuff now" because it turns out we need it!

I've put all of these videos into this playlist it's called "make your stuff now" at the moment.
There's a link up here, if you click on the "i" or or down in the description

If you've reached this point I hope this has helped

If it has, why not hit the thumbs up which will help other people to find this video. or hit the subscribe button which will help me get to 10,000 subscribers.

I'm on about one and a half at the moment so it feels like a really big mountain

Leave a comment below, be lovely to hear from you, just say hi - and I hope this video has helped you to make your own stuff
Can you please help my daddy get 10,000 subscribers. Just click in his face. Thanks bye! Alright, this is gonna be the proper one, right?

How to RECOVER your ZOOM VIDEO FILES: double click to convert error message on Mac and Macbook Pro

How to recover Zoom call video files, if they haven't converted after the meeting has ended.
If you have a folder containing files called double_click_to_convert_01.zoom
and they don't convert when you double click on them, here is how I recovered my Zoom meeting video files on my Macbook Pro, so it might work on your Apple mac, ipad or who knows, maybe even Windows 10.

How to RECOVER your ZOOM VIDEO FILES: double click to convert error message on Mac and Macbook Pro

Knowing you've recovered your files is reward enough!
But here's a virtual tip jar if you'd like to buy me a coffee, thanks!
https://paypal.me/NeilMossey

0:00 Intro I've got a folder of Zoom recordings but they won't play
1:10 What to do when you get the error message: The document double_click_to_convert_01.zoom could not be opened. zoom.us cannot open files of this type.
2:50 How to recover video recordings from a Zoom generated folder, which contains files called double_click_to_convert_01.zoom
6:30 How to convert files from a Zoom call recording

Start a new Zoom meeting: hit record then press stop recording
You get the message "The recorded file will be converted to mp4 when the meeting ends"
DO NOT CLICK END MEETING or LEAVE MEETING!
Open the new recording folder for this call, and delete the "double click to convert" files in there.
Copy over the files you want to recover into THIS new folder.
End the Zoom Call, click Leave Meeting
Zoom then converts the video files (and audio files) you need in this new folder and will give you a progress bar.
Your recovered video and audio files will appear in this new folder.

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

Hello welcome back to the Happy Hut, I'm Neil and usually I'm a development producer.
I try to encourage as many people as possible to make youtube videos but this video is very specific - and if you've had to search this I'm so sorry that you're in this situation
It's a beautiful day out here except it isn't because you have gone on to Zoom, like me, and had a very long conversation - very long zoom call - and you've gone to get the recording in the recording folder on your computer and the recording isn't there.
Let me show you what it looks like.

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

The folder looks like this and in the folder instead of your beautiful recordings of your scintillating zoom call, like mine, all you get are these files that say "double-click to convert" - it's actually "double click to convert" as if to ram it home:
double_click_to_convert and you're watching this video so I know that you double clicked on that file and got this error message.

"The document double_click_to_convert_01.Zoom could not be opened. Zoom.us cannot open files of this type."

I've got good news for you.
There is a way to recover these video files from your zoom conversation - from the folder that's been placed onto your computer.

Obviously I've got a MacBook - I think this workaround works with either but a lot of the websites that I visited to try to recover my video files seem to only deal with converting the files in Windows, Windows 10.
So I'm hope that this advice is really helpful for anyone with an Apple Mac or a MacBook Pro or an iPad even.

There are other ways to attempt first. This is a bit of a last ditch, last resort way of recovering your video files from the Zoom conversation
I'll put in the description if I can find any links to these other things that you can try first - I'll put them down there.

They didn't work for me. I suspect that's why you have looked up this video on YouTube.
So let me walk you through how to recover a failed recording in zoom.

So here we have the folder that's all the problem.
Look the audio only is a temp file.

Double-click to convert - if you double click on it it doesn't work, and you've probably tried right-clicking and "open with zoom" but you get the same error message
I really did not want to lose this video recording, so this is how to recover these video files.
If you double click, open up zoom, and then you get the welcome screen that you're used to and we're going to click on "new meeting"

It's ok I think I can recover your video files - I hope so - don't hate me if it doesn't work but it did work for me.
It doesn't matter if you join with computer audio - I will join with computer audio

Now we're going to open up a new zoom call and we are going to hit just down here - my giant finger!
We hit record - we are now recording a completely different zoom call - this one - the new one.

We're going basically trick the zoom app into converting the files that we want to convert.
So if I hit stop recording there - you see up here it says the recorded file will be converted to mp4 when the meeting ends

That's what we're going to use to recover your precious video files
Now the really important thing at this stage is do not click end the meeting

All we've done is stop the recording - the meeting is still open and we're going to use that to our advantage.
So we'll step away from the zoom call now and go back to the folder that had the failed video recordings from the zoom call, that we actually want to convert... and then what we're going to do is open up the folder for this call - this temporary call that we're... that we're doing right now.

This is the folder right here that zoom has created for this meeting that we've got right now.
Hello. Here I am!

It's just... this is great! I've can just point to stuff on my screen this... this folder here
If we open it up you can see that this also has some files that say double click to convert.

Now we're going to get rid of these, so if you select them all. You can hit Apple-A to select them or select them individually, and we'll just delete them.
Move to bin... or move to trash there they go

And then what we're going to do is to copy these files from the folder that you want to recover the video from... we'll select them all.

Now I'm going to I'm going to copy them

I'm not going to move them so at least I've still got the original files if this system doesn't work
The original folder will still be there, so I'm going to go Apple-C for copy, or you can maybe right-click and then go down to "copy 5 items" and then we'll go over to this new folder and we will paste.
Here's where the magic happens you can now hit "end meeting" - end meeting for all.

Look what happens! It's converting something!
What it's doing is converting... it's a bit like a cuckoo in a nest: it's now converting the files that it didn't convert in the first place - because it's going to that folder - so we just let it do its thing.

The reason I think the zoom recording failed is that I think I hit "leave meeting" instead of stop recording - so to avoid this in future I'm gonna always hit stop recording before I hit the leave meeting or end meeting in zoom.
And there we go!

It's even opened the folder for me, so instead of having that test recording that you saw me make... if I double click on the mp4 this is the actual meeting that I wanted to convert and not lose.
So I hope this recovery system works for you.

Just to recap:
open up the folder where the recordings are and the files for "double click to convert"

Then start a new meeting, hit record, and then hit stop - so that zoom has created a new folder for converting at the end of this meeting.

Don't hit end meeting but go to the folder with that new recording in, and delete out the recording files there.

Copy over the broken files - the video files that you're trying to recover - and paste them into that new folder.

Go back into zoom and then hit "leave meeting" or "end meeting" and then zoom will convert those video files for you.

Did it work?!
I really want to know: leave a comment below.

If it didn't I'm sorry and I'll try and put some links in the description for other articles for other methods for recovering your video files from a zoom recording, but if it did work - oh my goodness, I'd love to hear from you.
Just say hello in the comments below - it'd be lovely to know this helps someone somewhere.

If it did it would be wonderful if you could show your appreciation by hitting the subscribe button. Every subscription helps me get closer to 10,000 subscribers, and if you hit the thumbs up button that will help other people find this solution too.
And good luck for your next recordings of zoom calls!
I hope this never happens again.

HOW TO MAKE A BUS BLIND DESTINATION DISPLAY | TightwadDad Vlog

How to build a frame for a bus destination blind... for as little money as possible! (Click the picture)
Sadly, it's not one of those winder displays where you can change the route or destination (there's a great link below) but it is illuminated and looks great in our house.
Mine's for my Route 46 London bus destination blind.

All you need is a picture frame (mine was from IKEA called Olunda, but it seems unavailable),
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- some plexiglass or perspex clear plastic sheet, something like this. (Amazon US) https://amzn.to/2yzTcEo
(Amazon UK) https://amzn.to/3bBrea0
- Black gloss spray (Amazon US https://amzn.to/2XZEpNM )
(Amazon UK) https://amzn.to/2XXH9LN
- LED strip light. I used a 1m strip, but 2-5m would be better (Amazon US) https://amzn.to/2yDOh53

HOW TO MAKE A BUS BLIND DESTINATION DISPLAY | TightwadDad Vlog

TRANSCRIPT: (click play on video above)
Hello - I don’t know which way to hold this - maybe that way around?
Hello I’m Neil, welcome back to the Happy Hut.
Usually this is the Tightwad Dad vlog where we are happy - we're trying to be happy with what we've already got - but at the moment we're in the the great shutdown of 2020 and so I'm trying to do something everyday that I've not done before

And today... I'm going to explain how I made this!
A display for a bus blind - a bus destination board - and I actually built this four years ago
I don't know why I've not shared the footage

Now I know if you found this by searching how to build a display for a bus blind, I KNOW the one that you want - it's the display that I want - which has a handle that would crank up the blind and change the destination
I just couldn't afford that and I'll tell you why in a moment how I got these bits together
But I'll put a link in the description if I ever find a video about how to build one of those
That'd be awesome - but this is something slightly different

I went onto eBay and I found a destination that I wanted, it's something--
it's a place that's very dear to my heart: Camden Road in London
It cost me about fifteen quid but what people are doing is they're taking the big strips and they're cutting them into single destinations, so this was about fifteen quid and I loved it and I really wanted to work out a way of mounting it and putting it up on the wall in a way that wasn't gonna break the bank
I spent ages trying to find the right frame.

I finally found it in of all places IKEA
I'll show you the footage now: it's it's actually a frame that comes already with a print in it - Picasso - it's the Picasso print... but it's the exact dimensions that would be right for displaying my bus destination blind
So I had a frame, but what I really wanted to do is to put a light behind this - so I got an LED light strip and I needed to work out a way of putting this blind at the front of the frame... so then I thought well if I've got some perspex - and I got this perspex from Wickes or B&Q... and I cut the perspex to the size of the frame

Then I could put the blind onto the perspex and have the lights behind it - illuminating this from behind
But that meant there was a gap at the top and the bottom... so then I got this black spray from Poundland - it's a-- I think it's a gloss car spray

It might not even be the right paint for for perspex.
Leave a comment below if you've got any other tips, but it worked for me
All I needed to do is to mask off the bit in the middle that is the right width or rather the white... or rather the right height for this blind.
So then I put the masking tape on.

I sprayed it.
Removed the masking tape and put it all together and that's what this video is about
It's pretty much in real time so you can follow along with me I hope--
I hope this helps someone somewhere to find a way to display their beautiful bus blind
So this is what I've used for the background - it's an Ikea Picasso picture
Is that a copyright?
Probably

Mass-produced by IKEA but inside I sort of drilled a hole, and from Lidl I've got these LED strip lights
That'll be the back of the frame - so the idea is if I have that in front... it'll be lit up
Now I need to get a bit of plexiglass, spray paint it black with masking tape, rip it off and then hopefully the light will shine through behind the sign

This is what I've used: it's black glass car paint from Poundland and I measured the middle of this plastic that I got from B&Q, and then I'm masking taped it out for the middle section and then sprayed it
That's me reconstructing how I spray-painted it - sound effects and everything - so hopefully this is the big moment of truth

This is this will hopefully reveal a clear section in the middle
I'm going to do it on camera so it could be really embarrassing if it's gone wrong
Let's give it a go. Try and take it off.
There might be a way to get that off - the back of the masking tape's left a mark on the, on the glass where some of the glue's been left behind from the masking tape
But I think it will come off with surgical spirit

The trick is to do it slowly - agh! except for there.
Let me go close so you can see how the edge is going to come up
Right, the trick is to do it super slow - look, can you see it has a straight edge coming off now
[MUSIC]

You can see that the masking tape has protected the Plexiglas on this side
it's giving a straight line so far
This is a very long video and it is a metre wide or 1 metre, 6 centimeters wide
But the lifting up slowly really helped because it doesn't leave so many bits of masking tape bits behind

Probably should have done that other bit a lot slower
I worried that the tape would lift up the paint but it seems to be okay
[MUSIC]

I'm also hoping that because the bus blind is going to be behind this, and it's black, that it won't look-- if there are any jaggedy edge problems that it won't look too bad because the blind will be up against it
When I put the masking tape down, I really rubbed it down hard with my fingernail
That seems to have paid off

I'm a bit frustrated by-- can you see those-- the bit of masking tape
It's just all over the place.
[MUSIC]

Ah, right the trouble with taking it too far away now is that there's a tear here
That's not so good.
So if I can bring it around and then come back from the other side
[MUSIC]

So that's good, let's try and go from the other end
I'll probably put the whole thing on one really big video, live along with the tearing with me!
Tell you what might be easier to move the middle one first, let's try that
Do it really super slowly, to make sure that pull is close to where it's coming off the plastic sheet - the acrylic

That seems to be a much cleaner way of getting it off
Now I'll do the next section, and also I left the - on the acrylic sheet - I left the protective-- there's like a protective sheet on both sides

I took it off this side obviously to lay down the masking tape but I left it on the other side just in case there any- there was any spray paint or you know spillages - just hopefully protected on the other side
Alright here goes for the clean edge!
Split... I've got to do... kind of join it up and then move it really slowly
The spray paint was-- was dry in about half an hour

If you do it in quick layers but I had to do lots of layers, so I've got through a couple of cans
You don't get that much paint in-- in the can, and even now there are sort of spits and spots which I'll try to show you later

I might-- I might just cover those with marker pen
I think using the spray paint has helped because it flexes with the glass
If I did it with gloss paint, I think I'd be worried that it would crack and fall off or come off with the tape
And I laid down the two strips first, to get my edges - and I ran a pencil line with a metal ruler, full length, just to make sure that it was that straight

And then I filled the middle with two extra bits of masking tape
Still not sure that's the best way to mount the bus blind, but see how it looks in a minute.
And this should be completely clean so I'm trying not to touch it too much but getting my greasy mitts all over it. See a bit has come off there - agh, put more on.

Try and find a way to lift that off in a sec
Gonna time jump this, so I'll do that off-camera but I'll just finish this section off here
Here comes the final section!

I'm gonna separate it from that so I can do it two bits
Take this one off first, and then I've gotta lift up one way or the other there's - these sections
Let's do this one first, yeah, and then this one. There we go, perfect line.
See if I can get this off.
I'm gonna try and lift that off
[MUSIC]

And here is the the final final bit
[MUSIC]

And there we go. There you go so that's complete.
Blackout blind for the bus blind, that sort of works something like this
That's doesn't look too bad, does it

If it will fit inside - oh it's really good - there you go - okay
Protective film coming off.
[MUSIC]

So that's how my display for my bus blind, or my bus destination board, finished up
Looks beautiful doesn't it?
This is what it looks like today - you'll notice a slight change in destination?

I absolutely love Camden Road and I really liked the yellow colour, but I wanted something that would change colour, and also this destination meant a bit more to me
It's a bus that I went on to get to school in the morning when I was a kid
But the problem I had was that this destination was much thinner - it had a much lower height - so I had to put masking tape on and spray even more paint on to make the black borders work for this blind

And this is what it looks like after
It would be lovely to know if somebody reached the end of the video
If you've hit this point, why not click on the thumbs up just let me know that somebody watched all the way through - it'd be lovely to see that

If you've got any questions or any tips for making this even better or easier or more cost effective, why not leave a comment below it'd be fantastic to hear from you
And if you're feeling even kinder why not hit the subscribe button
You never have to watch any of my videos again but every subscription helps me to keep on doing this
Can you please help my daddy get 1,000 subscribers just click on his face,
Thanks, bye!
How's that?

El Bimbo - The Music From The Blue Oyster Bar (in Police Academy) and where it all came from

At school, my mate Rob and I would hilariously break into this tune, any excuse, any given moment.

If you don't know the bit from Police Academy, it's okay, I won't explain it here.

And because it was 100 years ago, it was impossible to get a recording of it anywhere.

Now it's one of the tunes I've spent way to long tracking down where it's come from
(the others include Go West, and Take On Me) - they've got surprising versions behind them.

So here's my little shrine to "El Bimbo".

First, feast your eyes on this! Bimbo Jet from 1974

But in the movie credits, the tune is "Written by Claude Ganem and Performed by Jean-Marc Dompierre and his Orchestra"

I can't find any Jean-Marc Dompierre videos, so here's Paul Mauriat — El Bimbo

And here it is in German - Marion Rung - El Bimbo (Hitparade 1975)

But all of this might be a little unfair -- there's controversy online over whether this guy wrote the thing - the Afghan performer Ahmad Zahir. (It all depends if you believe the date of his album "Lylee" is 1971 or 1977...) Either way...

Tanha Shodam Tanha

Sing along now!

Tanha shodam tanha
Asooda az ghawgha shodam
Az bas ke khordam khoon-e dil
Chun ghoncha az ham shodam
Baaz ast dar-haye qafaz – ay morgh-e dil parwaz kon – gulha ke een gulzar raa
Man aashiq tanhayee am – khod mahram-e raaz-e khodam – ba naghma pardazan bego

Translation:
I'm left alone, alone
(literally: I became alone, alone)
I'm left relieved of any chaos
(literally: I got/became relieved from all this riot)
So much i took this pain that
(literally: so much I drank my heart's blood that
(it's a kind of a proverb in middle east speakers for expressing being in pain or bearing the pain like: khon-e dil/khon-e jigar))
I started to develop like a flower bud
(literally: I blossomed like a newborn flower (a red flower from the blood been drunk))

The cage is open, Fly O bird of my heart
(imagination)(literally: the cage doors are open--o bird of my heart fly (imagination))
There are lots of flowers in this flower field (rose garden)
but I'm in love with my privacy
(literally: the flower field is full of flower - I love the privacy)
I'm confidant to my own secrets, Go tell musicians
(literally: myself am confidant to my own secrets, discuss with musicians or tell the musicians)

House Of Lies - official Showtime ipad app

Writer / Digital Producer, HOUSE OF LIES app for Showtime Networks, produced by Seven Publishing Ltd. Digital Team

Wrote content and concepts on 9 segments across all 7 chapters of the official app for the Showtime comedy drama, House of Lies, starring Don Cheadle, Kristin Bell, Ben Schwartz, Josh Lawson and Dawn Olivieri.

(Including the BS Generator, Glossary, Meet The Team, A Year Of Your Life As A Management Consultant, Interactive Hostile Workplace HR Training Infographic, Expenses Cleanup, Travel, Swimming With Sharks, and Marty's Manifesto).

It's available here as an ipad app:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stroke-your-genius-martys/id488234994?mt=8

and will also be available on the Barnes & Noble Nook:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/stroke-your-genius-showtime-networks-inc/1108055549?ean=2940043873415

What's great about writing on a TV series app, is that you have to pull together and also balance a combination of three disciplines:

How it hits the eye.
DESIGN
High-end glossy magazine skills
Aesthetics
Does it look great and match the design rules of the show?

How it hits the finger (and device).
ENGINEERING
App building and coding skillsets
Functionality
Can it be done technically, and does it work?

And finally, where I sit...

How it hits the brain.
WRITING
TV/Broadcast writing skills
Content
Is it funny, and is it in the right character voice of the show?

We're still in frontiersland for this kind of work, but from where I'm standing, if any chapter of an app (ipad, Nook, or Android) excludes or leans too heavily on one of the three above... it just doesn't work.

How To Break A New Story From Scratch

Having trouble planning out story beats?

This is Dan Wells, with an awesome system for plotting an outline, using a 7 Point Story Structure...

1
HOOK (Start)
2
PLOT TURN 1 (Conflict)
3
PINCH 1 (Horrible Things Happen)
4
MID-POINT (Move from Reaction To Action)
5
PINCH 2 (Jaws Of Defeat - lowest point)
6
PLOT TURN 2 (Obtain final thing)
7
RESOLUTION

Dan Wells On Story Structure Part 1

What's really useful with Dan's system is the order you tackle the 7 Points:

7 RESOLUTION
- Everything in your story leads to this moment.
- What is your story about? Where is your story going?
- Make sure you know what kind of resolution you want.
We start at the end because everything in the story leads to this moment. This is the climax. The point. Where it’s leading up to, what it’s about.
(eg Harry Potter: Harry defeats Voldemort)

1 HOOK
- Now we know the ending, figure out where we start.
- One easy way to do this is to start with the opposite state: eg if a character is going to end strong, she should start weak. (eg starting Batman as a depressed directionless loser, or Harry Potter as weak orphan under the stairs).

4 MID POINT
- Between HOOK and RESOLUTION
- How you start moving from Hero’s beginning state to end state. It’s where Hero moves from Reaction to Action.
(eg Fellowship of the Ring: ‘Oh no, let’s not get killed’ to ‘Let’s take the fight to them’. Midpoint is Council of Elron where they make that decision.
Harry Potter: Start sad & wimpy to Defeating Voldemort, so his MidPoint is ‘He learns who Voldemort is, what V wants to do, & decide he’s going to do something about it.’)

Dan Wells on Story Structure, part 2 of 5

2 PLOT TURN 1 (CONFLICT)
- This event moves us from the HOOK to the MID POINT. It’s what sets you in motion.
- This is where we introduce our conflict.
(So Harry Potter starts with a situation, but then a conflict is introduced. Changing the world the character lives in. A Call To Adventure, Or Confronting New Ideas).

6 PLOT TURN 2
- This is the thing that moves the story from MID POINT to END
- At MIDPOINT you determine to do something, and in the RESOLUTION you do it.
So Plot Turn 2 is where you obtain the final thing you need to make it happen.
“The Power Is In You!”
(eg Star Wars “Use The Force”; Oz “You Can Go Home Any Time You Want”; Matrix “Neo: You Are The One”).
- Grasping victory from the jaws of defeat: Something horrible just happened, but now the heroes have what they need...even if they don't realise it at the time.
- It's something that's going to give us the final piece we need to move from 'trying to succeed' to finally succeeding. (eg Harry Potter: Harry discovers the stone is in her pocket because his motives are pure).

3 PINCH 1
- A PINCH is designed to Apply Pressure. Horrible things happen. The purpose of a pinch is to force your characters into action.
(eg Harry Potter: The Troll Attack. No adults around, forcing children to solve the problem on their own. It's where we introduce danger into a fun environment.)

5 PINCH 2
- Pinch 2 applies more pressure, and makes the situation seem even worse.
A plan fails; A mentor dies leaving the heroes alone; The bad guys seem to win.
- These are the jaws of defeat from which your Hero will be snatching victory. Make sure the teeth are sharp.
(eg. Harry Potter: Harry loses Ron & Hermione to the traps and is left alone)
[Forces Hero to grow up, forces to work alone, SEEMS HOPELESS].

Dan Wells on Story Structure, part 3 of 5

Examples of Romantic, Tragedy, and Horror Plots

Dan Wells on Story Structure, part 4 of 5

ICE MONSTER PROLOGUE
- The Hook scene in most story arcs is not very interesting (Most arcs start in a position of weakness)
- Most plots start before the conflict is introduced
- You need to grab readers attention NOW

TRY/FAIL CYCLES
- Before Heroes succeed, they need to try and fail
- Victory should be earned
- A problem that can be solved on first try isn't big enough to care about

Dan Wells on Story Structure, part 5 of 5

SUB PLOTS
- Each thread can be mapped out - Spread events for pacing
- Line up the events to create powerful moments & scenes
