SONY ZV1 can you film 4K on Micro SD card? ZV-1 camera video zoom & sample footage zooming!

Can you shoot 4K with a Sony ZV1 on a Micro SD card? And what is the zoom lens like, is the Sony ZV-1 camera zooming any good?
This is a big old sample footage test - 4K video to show you what it's like for me. It's also my first 4K video, so a massive learn for me. I show you the best Sony ZV 1 camera menu settings I use for 4K and the best micro SD card I've found.

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

I get the impression you would like to see a Sony ZV1 camera video sample
that's footage shot in 4k on on this - the Sony ZV1 or ZV1 depending on where in the world you are

I have a funny feeling that I might actually be the best person to show you this because I spent about an hour and a half yesterday shooting this:
I shot this video yesterday. About an hour's worth of material and I couldn't use one frame of it

I did literally everything wrong
everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong
I didn't shoot in 4k
I thought... I thought that setting it to 50 frames per second would put it into 4k
It's... it's not obviously
you have to go to file format and choose 4k there

the other thing I did wrong was that the ZV1 or ZV1... it has a gyroscope inside so it sensed that I was holding this camera vertically like this
and it shot all the material in portrait and I didn't want this for instagram
so this is my second attempt and it turns out that this is my very first 4k video
I'm shooting this on my GoPro hero5
I've brought this along so that you can actually see the camera and I've had this camera for like four years - never shot 4k
so as you can see I'm absolutely the best person to be showing you this

hello I'm Neil Mossey, I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you - that's a GoPro high five - to get ideas out of your head and out onto here on YouTube where we absolutely need them

we need... we need you to be making videos and I'm making these videos so that you can avoid all the mistakes that I'm making on my YouTube journey
I'm not a camera guru or a photography expert and I'm going to try and do as much talking as possible so you get to see as much 4k footage as possible

let me cut to the other camera now
this is my my setup
I've got a Sony ZV1 on top of a gorillapod and I've got my boya by-m1 microphone
I've made a video about that: that's in the description below

I've got this windshield on because it is a bit breezy and it seems to be helping the audio and on top of the camera - let's get the GoPro in again - I've put a phone holder to uh just put my notes in front of me because we've got a lot to get through and I'm going to talk a lot so that you get to see as much footage as possible
I'm holding it on a gorillapod

I tried it with my hand grip yesterday and I just needed it to be just a bit further away so you can actually see something other than my big face
I have made a whole load of video that's the correct collective noun by the way - a load of videos

I've made a whole load of videos about the Sony ZV1 camera and one of them is can you use a micro SD card with a Sony ZV1 camera?
here's a spoiler yes you can.
But one of the comments that I got was was this it reads Grabba in 4k?

I'm not sure my pronunciation is correct and isn't it something like graba en cuatro-K
now I think I know what this means but I put it into Google translate and it came out as "can you record in 4k on a micro SD card?"
which was a really specific question but I thought well why not make a video about it

I'm in the uk so I'm shooting in pal which means I'm on 25 frames per second and I chose the 50m setting, but when you switch it to 100m you get this error message:
it says basically you've got to use a card which is rated U3 and luckily I had just bought one of those I've got it on screen now

I'll put a link in the description to that card
and I know what you're thinking which is, Neil... why don't you just buy an SD card
they cost about the same as the micro SD cards and they're actually designed for proper cameras like this
and I hear you but all my cameras up until this point have used the micro SD card

I've got my DJI Osmo Pocket, my GoPro Hero5 plus my daughter's got a camera my son's got a drone...
it means that I've got a lot of micro SD cards that I wanted to use
it's just really handy being able to flip those cards across all my devices
plus I've got I've got quite a lot of them as well.

And if you're interested I'm... I've got this set to intelligent auto, active stabilization at 25 frames per second, the 50m
this is going so well I think I might even look up what the m means!
so how's this working for you so far?

leave me a comment let me know what you think
but I've got a second question and it came on this comment here and the comment reads
how is the zoom on a Sony ZV1 camera?

Is it enough for the average user because I see the zoom on the RX100 mk6 or mk7 is bigger but it costs too much just for that feature and I... I completely hear you
I mean this this camera here isn't cheap either, so what I'm going to do...
I'm going to find, I'm in uh some ancient heath land and I think there's some ancient uh burial mounds like that one there

I found myself a really nice burial mound to stand on and this is what I can see on the GoPro.
And if we cut to the Sony ZV1 camera...
and what I'm going to do is, I'm going to zoom in to the end of the optical zoom which is about there so you can see that building there

I'll just take it back a little bit because the digital zoom kicks in really smoothly
so that's the end of the optical zoom and then I'm going to push it in just a bit further to go all the way in
And then to give you an idea of the capability of this, I'm going to zoom all the way out in one move.
So that is the extent of the... of the zoom

And something that-- that's really useful for me because I'm using a lapel mic
if I were using the onboard mic you would hear the the zoom mechanism really loudly
so it's nice to be able to separate my voice from the zoom on the camera
let's go all the way out
if you're interested in the battery life I've been running my ZV-1 for about 40 minutes on airline mode and the screen at sunny weather brightness so I've saved power with the airline mode - or airplane mode - and

I've probably blown it all on the on the bright screen
but at least I can see what I'm doing
and it's lasted for 40 minutes I'm on the final bar of battery right now so I think I'm on its last legs
shall I just show you some 4k footage and run some music?

I'll do that for a minute just so you can see what the footage looks like just as a normal video sample.
[MUSIC]
[MUSIC]
OOOH!
is this video helping?
I don't think anyone will reach this point of the video but if you have why not say hi in the comments below
and right here are all my videos about the Sony ZV1 camera
I hope there's something in there to also help out with you with this camera

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

And there's a big countdown to us starting the quiz
hello I am doing... I don't know why but I am doing every single YouTube Creator Academy course and here's what they look like
there are 41 courses and at the end of each one there's a course exam
I am going to do one every single week this year in real time on here so that you can follow along and play along with me and today it's course exam number two
it's the second one
I'm doing get discovered
we've got search and discovery
effective thumbnails and titles
smart descriptions
cards and end screens
uploads playlists and collaboration
Hello I'm Neil Mossey and I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you to-- let's do a double one -- to get ideas out of your head and out onto here on YouTube, to make the world a happier place.
So the clock has hit zero I'm in the game show mood
I've got my London Weekend t-shirt on let's get the other music going!
question one what do you call the combination of title description tags and thumbnail search data
metadata
video data or channel data
now we're just going to play along but if you feel strongly about any of the answers put them in the in the comments
for this one I'm going to go for metadata let's try that and I'll hit next
the Creator Academy course doesn't give you uh any kind of validation or answer as you go along and it just tells you at the end whether or not you've failed or passed so fingers crossed
let's uh let's not mess this one up
question two you've created a new video about how to make the perfect tiara
what characteristics should you consider when finalizing your title
create the longest title possible
more characters are always better
include popular search terms even if they aren't related to your video because this will improve search results
your title really doesn't matter if you have a fantastic thumbnail
or keep your title short and relevant which one would you go for
I'm going to go for the last option keep your title short and relevant although I don't know you know... longest title means you can cram more good words in!
I'll hit next true or false this is question three
creating misleading titles thumbnails and or descriptions is a great way to get your videos discovered true or false
go for false
next question four larry can't create a new video each week however he wants his subscribers to see activity on his channel
what are some actions that larry can take to keep his what to watch and my subscriptions sections active
I... I watch a lot of YouTube and I... I don't think I've ever seen what to watch
have you seen it but put it in the comments
maybe I'm being really dense and I've I've just not watched it
how can you keep your what to watch and my subscriptions sections active
like or comment on videos
tweet out with a relevant hashtag
upload daily even if it isn't the best quality
or regularly change thumbnails
I'm going to go with like or comment on videos
I like doing that anyway
say hello if you've got a channel
say hello if-- we want to see your channel!
a third of the way through already this is--
got a good feeling about this one
I don't know what we win
I'll think of something by the end of the 41 videos
daria the diva has just uploaded a new video masterpiece
I've got beavis and butthead in my head
do you remember daria
[BEAVIS VOICE] Dariiiahhh!
To attract viewers she wants to create the perfect thumbnail what advice would you give to daria
be sure to include people in her thumbnail because that always results in more clicks
be sure to use the thumbnail YouTube suggests because that one is always best
be sure to use a custom thumbnail that is clear and compelling
or be sure to include some text in the thumbnail because that will make it more click-friendly
which one do you think for the perfect thumbnail
I think I'm going to go for: be sure to use a custom thumbnail that's clear and compelling
by the way I hate the thumbnails that I'm making for these videos
please if you've got any ideas for them, put them in the comments because it's difficult
there's a lot of text to get in
I want to get me in
there isn't a lot here to play with in terms of images
maybe I should like wear a game show host outfit or something I don't know
question six when crafting your title where should you include relevant and descriptive keywords
at the beginning
in the middle
at the end
or placement doesn't matter
now I'm going to go for at the beginning because YouTube can truncate your title so I'm going to go for that
question 7 of the 15.
series playlists help inform the YouTube algorithm about the order in which to display content to a viewer
series playlists can't be posted outside of YouTube
series playlists can include videos from other channels
and series playlists can be downloaded by the most active subscribers
now I did the course for this course exam
there's a link to it in the description below
I wasn't up on series playlists about how they work so I'm going to go for the first answer
series playlists help inform the YouTube algorithm which feature
question 8 which feature would you add to your video when speaking a call to action on screen
a card
credits
metadata
or playlist
which feature would you add to your video when saying a call to action on screen
I would add a card like this one
I'll add a card this is the video I'm feeling good about at the moment
question nine what's a benefit of creating playlists
playlists help to organize your YouTube analytics
playlists allow you to organize your channel and give your audience a personalized experience
playlists allow you to create personalized videos for your audience
or playlists help you connect your adsense account
I'm gonna go for the second answer: playlists allow you to organize your channel and give your audience a personalized experience
stick with this we've got five more to go
we can do this
where can you go to see which keywords viewers are using to find your video
traffic sources in YouTube analytics
YouTube metadata
google trends
or the library
where can you go to see which keywords viewers are using?
I would go to traffic sources in YouTube analytics
next question 11
YouTube may remove videos that violate our community guidelines true or false
yeah I think YouTube may review..?
may review
I can't say it
question 12 final three
what is a benefit of organizing videos into sections
it allows you to change the contents of video after uploaded
it increases total watch time for content on the channel
it makes it easier for people to choose videos to watch
or results in more subscribe to your channel
it's always good when it results in more subscribe
I think I think it makes it easier for people to choose videos to watch and I'll tell you why
I've made a whole video about organizing videos into sections and I don't think most of us know that they're called sections
I just call them rows of videos on my channel home page but if you want to add those rows to your channel just click on the link in the description or it's on screen now
that was a fun one to make but I think I'm going to go for that one: makes it easier for people to choose videos to watch
which of the following tactics would you not use to design an image that encourages viewers to click on your thumbnail
adjust the contrast brightness and saturation levels to create pale images
I do do that a bit
consider adding your branding and or some descriptive text to the image
upload high resolution files so images display clearly at all sizes
or use the rule of thirds to compose interesting and dynamic images
I think I'll go for the pale images
penultimate question
question 14 why would you want to avoid click bait in your thumbnails and titles
THE TRUTH!
why would you want to avoid click bait
this can turn away some viewers who find it unappealing
this impacts how your video is recommended to new viewers
this sets the wrong expectations about what's in the content
or all of the above
I think I'll go for all of the above as a consumer of clickbait
finally last question how do advertiser friendly thumbnails and titles affect monetization
only advertisers of specific products can run ads on mature content
advertisers pay higher rates if you mention them in your video title
advertisers can opt out of keywords that don't align to their brand
or no advertiser would ever want to be associated with a controversial topic
I am going to go for advertisers can opt out of keywords that don't align to their brand
let's click submit
quiz complete
how did you how did you do?
leave me a comment let me know
are these questions easy, hard?
now unfortunately it doesn't tell me which questions I got right and which ones I got wrong but it does say that I've done it
I've got a letter of completion
hey I've got my other one this is my letter of completion from last week
I actually printed it out
you could hear me printing it out but I didn't show it on camera
so now we've got two of them all of these course exams are on this playlist here
and right here is what YouTube thinks you should be spending time on next!

This week it's "The quickstart guide to YouTube" which covers
Welcome to YouTube

An introduction to YouTube policies and guidelines...

Before you publish a new video... YOUTUBE CREATOR ACADEMY COURSE EXAM #1 Quickstart guide to YouTube

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

Is this it, are we live?
Hello uh welcome it's Friday night here in the UK I’m totally not prepared for this as you're about to see

this is a really unusual departure for me on two levels and I’m gonna walk you through the the two things that I’m doing for the first time live
it's what eight minutes to seven o'clock at night so I’m in the happy hut and I’m assuming that nobody is watching this but if you are then you'll know that my name is Neil Mossey

hello I’m a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you to get ideas out of your head and out onto here on YouTube
and this video is going out live thanks to a trial that I’m trying out
they're not paying me they're not affiliated to me at all

I’m just trying out this software it's called melon app and that's why there's this logo in the corner and
I’m a bit freaked out because I thought I’d be able to stream this privately and record the stream and then upload it later but the free plan only allows you to go live so I wasn't quite expecting to be live
so hello it's great to have you here and I’m so not used to this dashboard that I’m looking at that I don't even know if anyone is watching this
I don't even know if it's live
let's show on stream

yes I’ve got a bohemian rhapsody effect going on there but this is what I’m looking at this is what I can see
I can see on there that two people are watching and I don't know one of them is me so if you are the other person thank you

you are the one person watching my live stream right now on a Friday night courage to you my friend
so that's the first big thing that I’m doing so I’ll take that off “using melon app for the first time” and show this the screen I’ve done that

the second thing I’m going to do is as you can see from the words along the bottom here all right so this is the YouTube Creator Academy
and they have all these courses
I counted them there are 46 courses

why don't I just do every single course and do the course exam live at the end of every week to show what I’ve learned and also to get you to play along and see if you can take the course exam too and maybe we can compare scores

I don't know, I’m not encouraging any cheating so if you want to talk amongst yourselves that's great but I’m going to try and do this course exam for real
the course that we're doing today is the quickstart guide to YouTube
it's the first course I think - it's one of the basic courses

there are 21 basics courses it's the very first one
so these are the 21 courses that I’m going to go through one at a time
you can see I’ve started a few of them and I thought the only way I could see this through is to use you as an accountability partner

I should have told some friends that I’m doing this
it got to about four o'clock I thought oh why don't I just do it and see what happens
these are the lessons that I’ve just done
it only took me half an hour and on... if you're watching this on the recording I’ll put a link to the YouTube Creator Academy in the description

but I’ll also put a link to this actual course so you can follow along or maybe even go back and see if you get any wrong
should we do the exam?
and I think if I get it wrong I think I’ve got to like wait a couple of months before I can take it again

now I’m not looking at-- only because I can't - but I’m not looking at my chat because I don't want to cheat but you can cheat in the chat if you want to
so the first question in the quick start guide to YouTube is how can people discover your content on YouTube

I’m not looking at the chat because I can't open the window so put in the chat what you think the
answer is and I’ll go through the chat afterwards and we'll see if anyone gets any of these questions right
so how can people discover your content on YouTube
it's like a really terrible pub quiz isn't it
you got better things to do?!

the multiple choice answers are
YouTube.com on their computer
YouTube app on their phone
YouTube app on their smart tv
or all of the above
I’m gonna go for all of the above

oh next what is a good question to ask yourself when defining your channel's mission
how can I have an impact
how can I make a ton of money
sorry I’ve got Mike Reid in my head
there was a game show in the 1970s called runaround

I’ll put a link to that in the description
how can I reach 100000 subscribers
or how can I produce a viral video
answer now in the comments or live chat if you're my one viewer on the live stream on a Friday night
I think I’m going to go for how can I have an impact
oh so we don't get the scores or answers to the end
I promise I’ll speed it up a bit so we can get through these

why should you pay attention to your channel name?
it needs to be different from your real name
it helps to include trending keywords
it will always appear in your video credits
or it can live on your channel for years
put your answer in the comments now
what I’m going to go for it can live on your channel for years
now I don't want to be that annoying person in the exam but I’m finding these a bit easy so it'll be a shock if we get any of these wrong

before you publish a new video what's an important step
add details to describe what your video is about
pre-populate comments for early viewers to see
embed the video url across your social media
last option is write down your number of subscribers
so before you publish a new video what's an important step put your answer down now
I’m going to go for... because I’m reading them out I’m not actually taking them in
I can't do more than one thing at a time

see it could be embed the url but I’m gonna go for uh add details to describe what your video is about
what's the basic definition of watch time
this is question five and that was my chair by the way not me
the hazards of live streaming

what's the basic definition of watch time
the number of people watching your channel right now
the time of day that most viewers visit your channel
the average time that someone spends on YouTube
or the amount of time that viewers watch your videos
so put your answer now in the chat in the live chat if you're watching the live stream and put it in the comments if you're watching the recording afterwards
I’m gonna do this next week and we're to really zip through these

I’m going to go for no no... be the amount of time that viewers watch your videos
which action helps you build your community
interact with fan comments like I’m not right now I’m so sorry but I can only open one window
like every video that you watch
that is always a good idea
change your channel name
or publish a new video every day

And I’m gonna go with interact with fan comments
are you getting many comments on your YouTube channel leave a comment let me know!
we can sort something out and comment on each other's channel
your channel branding should be
simple
or relevant to your channel
or consistent
or all of the above
Whoa, a trick uh a curveball there for the last option
I’m gonna go for all of the above

and I can see... I don't like by the way I don't like the fact that I’ve got the word melon in the corner of the screen there
I’ve got the word melon over my bald head there!
that's not right
why should you use consistent branding this is question eight it's nearly there

why should you use consistent branding
because you want your channel to be discovered in search results
because you paid someone to market your brand
because you want viewers to instantly recognize your brand
or because you want to provide a fun experience
so why should you use consistent branding
I’m gonna go for because you want viewers to instantly recognize your brand
how easy are you finding... I’m finding these quite easy
do some bragging in the in the comments or the chat if these seem a bit too uh basic for you
maybe they get harder through the year and build ourselves up

what branding elements consists of a welcome video to potential fans
the channel trailer
the channel banner
the channel card
or the channel description
I’m going to go for channel trailer
Cindy finds a video on YouTube that seems inappropriate
I’ve had that this week

I just got a community guidelines warning for one of my thumbnails and I appealed it or if you're in the UK I appealed against it
and the... the appeal was successful
and then three hours later the YouTube automatically banned it again and I’ve got I’ve got a community guideline strike
I’ve got a video on that coming up very soon
I bet it was cindy flagging it

anyway cindy finds a video on YouTube that seems inappropriate what would you recommend her to do
email the creator to express her outrage
unsubscribe from the channel
yeah that that would be a good idea cindy
flag the video for review
or add the video to her playlist
her evil playlist

so which one would you go for?
are you going to go for cindy's evil playlist
or unsubscribing go away don't come back
I... I think it's going to be flagged the video for a review isn't it
penultimate question

I’m channelling my inner Derek Batey.
if you don't know who Derek Batey is google it after the quiz
but uh I need more hair I think to pull off the Derek Batey
that deserves a community guideline strike doesn't it
me talking about pulling yes uh so anyway...

I can't have another community guideline strike please
you've received a content id claim what does this mean
a copyright owner has identified content in your video that belongs to them
another creator claims that you stole their idea for your video
I don't think anyone's going to steal the idea for this
and if they do they've got 46 of these to make

you've received a content id claim what does this mean
you may have accidentally uploaded the same video twice
or your video infringes intellectual property and you're probably in big trouble
well again this has happened to me by accident this month uh we'll go for a copyright owner has identified content in your video that belongs to them
next final question we've got this
here we go

what's the potential consequence of multiple copyright strikes
your channel may be terminated
your subscribe button will be disabled
your channel banner will get a strike badge
I’d like one of them maybe I should make one of my own like the the play button that I made
the final option your videos may be age restricted

put your answer in the chat or the comments now
don't look at the person next to you
what's a potential consequence of multiple copyright strikes
I think it's going to be the big bad termination your... your channel may be terminated

let's see if we pass this course exam live on a Friday night live across the world
quiz complete
how did you do
is that it?

I thought it would tell us how we did
get my letter - shall we see?

NEW ZV1 FIRMWARE UPDATE! How to use ZV1 as webcam USB streaming Sony ZV-1 camera latest version 2.00

Sony have just released a firmware update for the ZV-1 camera!
It's version 2.00 (from v1.00) and has a new feature where you can plug the ZV 1 directly into a computer and use it as a webcam, with only a USB cable and no extra software or hardware!

The HARDEST part was dealing with an error message:
To start USB Streaming, unplug the USB cable.
Execute USB streaming function before connecting USB cable.

How do I firmware update my Sony ZV1 camera to the latest version?
Now as you know firmware is the the software that runs the camera so I'm effectively upgrading my little Sony ZV1 camera.

It's very exciting, Sony has just released version 2.00 but I've really not done this before because I've never firmware updated a Sony camera, so if you're like me and you've never done it before I'm going to do this step by step so you can follow along and hopefully avoid any mistakes that I make along the way.

And welcome to the happy hut!
Hello I'm Neil Mossey usually I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you to get ideas out of your head and out onto here on YouTube but I have recently upgraded my camera to the Sony ZV 1

I really miss not shooting this on this camera right now and I've been making videos along the way of my journey with my Sony ZV-1 camera.
I'm British so I should be calling it a ZV1 camera.

I am going to be following the instructions right here on the Sony website and the reason why this is especially exciting is that there's a new feature being released in the firmware update, and apparently you could just plug this straight into the computer and use it as a webcam.
Without any extra software or hardware.

I've been using my ZV1 or ZV-1 so much with this, it's a very cheap capture card.
I got it for about $15, it works beautifully.

We're not going to need to use that anymore, so why not stick around to the end of the video to see if this actually works.
I'm going to plug this into the computer and I'm going to see if this works with zoom because that's what I've been using with the capture card.

We're going to try and do that with just the USB cable and this firmware version 2.00 update so let's dive in with the very first instruction here: before you start check the system software version.
Well first I... I know that I haven't updated this but we're going to check the firmware version that's already on the ZV1 camera.

We are going to press the menu button and then go along to setup and set up is the tab at the top which looks like a toolbox.
It's that yellow tab there, the fifth tab along and then I'll press the down button to go into the menus and we want page five.
And if you press the down button and go down to version and hit ok we can see that the firmware version on my ZV1 is 1.00

We're gonna say goodbye to that soon!
Next I'm gonna make sure that my battery is fully charged and I'm going to take out my memory card.
Oh no I need that!
Next I'm going to hit download on the Sony website.

Read through the terms and conditions and hit download and I'll just save this to my desktop then I'm going to double click on the dot exe file that I've downloaded.

On the camera I'm going to select menu setup USB connection and check if mass storage is selected.
So I'm now going to turn the camera on and the Sony website asked me to connect with the supplied cable which isn't that long so I'm going to wing it and I've got a really long pink cable so we're going to see if this works.
I'm going to plug this into the computer and it's retracted the lens.

I don't know if you can see there...
I miss my ZV1 focus!
There you go USB mode and then I'm going to click next on the system software updater.
Oh no the battery level's too low!

Charge the battery and start from the beginning again.
So I thought I'd be okay I was on three but I lied when I said it was fully charged actually I was on three bars of battery I thought that would be okay and it's not so I'm just gonna charge this up and we'll try again.
So I'm going to double click on the firmware update and I'm going to switch the camera on and plug the USB cable into the computer... so click next again.

Verify the version of the update information on the bottom left hand corner of the screen that's just down here.
It says current version, v1.00 version after the update v2.00 which means we can now click next.
Oh this looks good so this is exciting I think it's going to take a few minutes.

I won't make you sit through all of this but here's some highlights from the screen.
The update process has been completed!
Whoa it's just come to life there we go there's a message on the screen there to start USB streaming unplug the USB cable execute USB streaming function before connecting USB cable.

So the update has been completed from the system software updater so the firmware update is done I think.
Next I'll disconnect the USB cable now all we have to do is check that the firmware has updated so I'm going to hit menu and we'll go to the same screen that we did before in setup.

Oh yeah screen number five go down to version hit okay...
Yes we've done it!
That's a firmware update version 2.00 for the Sony ZV-1 camera fantastic.

Click ok, am I ok? I'm more than ok and we'll get this camera up onto my webcam position and let's see if it works on zoom.
I've plugged my ZV1 into my pc again and this box has come up on my windows.

Select to choose what happens with this device guess I will just take no action but I'm slightly stuck because it's saying I've got to execute USB streaming function before connecting the USB cable and I don't know where USB streaming function is.
I'm going to hunt around for it in the menu.

Okay I've figured this out it seems so simple but it's taken me 15 minutes to work this out.
The USB streaming function is on another menu - it's on the second tab, tab two.
The option right at the bottom there can you see it says USB streaming, we're going to hit ok.

I've now got my USB cable connected to my Sony ZV 1 camera or is it ZV-1 camera?
Leave a comment below see what you prefer.
Let me show you what's on screen now, it says start streaming from connected device!
This is the moment of truth.

I've opened up zoom on my computer and I'll hit start and let's see if we can get this camera going.
I'll click join with computer audio.
I'll hit record so you can see what I'm recording and down here I'm going to see what happens when I hit the select camera button.
Whoa there it is!

ZV1 camera is an option on zoom so I'll select that and I'll start video and there we go oh my goodness we can...

Oh this is crazy for me because I've spent six months using an HDMI capture card to run my ZV-1 camera through zoom I'm doing this just with a USB cable no extra hardware no extra software.

It's not even the proper Sony USB cable that I'm using and it it seems to work and this is the recording!
This is the actual recording from zoom, I'm using the onboard microphone that's what you can hear right now, but this is the zoom recording this is the actual zoom recording.

That is the Sony ZV1 camera firmware update.
I have loads more ZV-1 camera videos or ZV 1 camera videos they're in this playlist here and right here is what youtube thinks you should be watching next.

How I stopped my anxiety. Or Boris Bike Down. You decide: My next YouTube video

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

I have shot this video five times and I don't know why but I can't seem to finish it, so I’m going to ask you to help me.
I’ve set up this poll and the link is in the description.

These are the videos that I really want to make and for whatever reason there's something stopping me from making them.
So I’m sorry to put this on you but I’m hoping that you can get me through this.

What video should I make next?
So the first one on the list is “how I stopped my anxiety”.
Ever since I was a school kid I’ve had this anxiousness.

I can only describe it as a ball of anxiety in my stomach.
It's just there all the time.
It just flares up and it flows down, I just felt that I would give a fight or flight response to everything.

That anything that was occurring in my life, anything I was thinking about, my stomach would react to it.
It's the only way I can describe it.
It's like a omnipresent ball of... a knot of anxiousness that was just there all the time.

But on top of that I was also getting really random panic attacks.
Sometimes I was in quite stressful situations and I’d know it because my body would... would let me know, but sometimes it would just flare up for no reason whatsoever.

It was 11:58 in the morning and I’m with my writing partner in London's trendy Hoxton.
We're running down the streets around Old Street in London.
It's a place with lots of design and advertising companies.

We had a meeting that started at 12 and we just could not find this office at all.
So we're running around trying to find this this loft warehouse office among a sea of loft warehouse offices and I had to just stop dead I suddenly stopped dead and I said “it's gone!”

He... he thought I was talking about the meeting.
I just noticed in that moment - I remember it was May 2016.
My anxiety had completely gone.

It was gone.
He said: “Are you okay?”
I said “No. I usually have that ball of... uh anxiety in my stomach I have that... the knot, the knot’s gone. My stomach feels completely normal.”

And I think he was a bit angry because I was kind of making this even later for this, this meeting.
I just had this weird feeling in me where everything... everything had gone.

The anxiety that I’d been living with for decades was just completely disappeared.
I don't know why my body isn't reacting to it anymore, so what happened?
Something happened.

It feels really weird talking about it.
I haven't really talked about it at all - just in real life let alone as a YouTube video.
Should I tell you what the two things are?

I mean there are lots of things that I’ve ruled out like getting older... my circumstances changing...
But if anything I think my, my circumstances have become more... more perilous and more likely to cause anxiety!
But it's gone. It's completely gone.

I think I know exactly what stopped my anxiety and I want to share that but I’m worried about sharing it because firstly it might not work for you if you're looking for a solution to how to stop your anxiety...
And I guess I’m scared that it might not work even though I’m not offering it TO work.

The funny thing is, this situation I’m in right now being in a park with a camera held in front of me just walking and talking with people around me that would usually trigger my anxiety response.
It would it would just really set off that feeling of horribleness.

I did two things and I... I continue to do those two things and the anxiety has completely 100% gone.
I, I almost miss the anxiety.
I almost want it to come back just to prove that I wasn't imagining it in the first place.

I can tell you the two things now, because that might help me to make this video.
The two things are: I fixed my sleep.
Uh, it turns out that I uh... that I have sleep apnoea [sleep apnea] and I was given a machine to fix that.

But the anxiety stopping happened about a year and a half after going onto this machine, so I think getting my sleep fixed was the first step.
And then the second step was doing a thing called morning pages, where I get everything out of my head out onto the page.

I did it in a concerted way using a book called The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron.
I’d always done morning pages but I’d never hand written them.
This ball of anxiety, the panic attacks, the fight or flight response just went after literally three decades of feeling like this.

Three decades of this being just the way that I reacted to things.
It stopped. It stopped dead and it didn't come back.

Now I don't know why I don't want to make this video because, you know, on one level I’d think it would be really kind for people who might be suffering anxiety.
But I think I’m scared.

I’m scared that it would come off as a bit... I don't know, a bit smug?
Or that I’m uh offering a solution that might not be appropriate to everyone or even anyone?
The next idea is how I got this scar.
I don't know if you can see it.

Don't know if that's in focus.
In December 2011 I was on a Boris bike.
I think in New York they're called citibikes but back then they were they were known as Boris bikes.

Anyway see... I’m already trying to talk the conversation away from what I should be talking about which is that I... I came off my bike and I... I don't remember a thing.
The five hours of my life that I, I don't remember.
It was Holborn Circus which is basically a roundabout.

I always found it quite tricky because when I turned off - they've changed the layout now - I’d always have to look behind me to make sure there wasn't a car behind me.
And that's the last thing I remember.

And then the next shot in my head, if it were a movie the next shot in my head would be a cut to just me looking at the ceiling.
I could see this hospital ceiling.
I didn't know his hospital ceiling, so one minute I’m on my bike the next minute I’m looking at the ceiling.

And it felt nice and warm and I realized I couldn't move... I couldn't turn my head because I had this massive plastic brace around it.
Just with my fingers, my hands, I felt around and I noticed that all my clothes had been uh cut off me.
Removed from me.
And it must have been quite a bad accident because my first instinct was:

I’ve got to tell my boss.
So my phone - the nurses have very kindly left my phone by my side - I was in a corridor but I could feel under the covers. Got my phone, so I phoned... phoned my boss.
And I think literally verbatim - word for word - my message that I left on his machine was “Accident... hospital... uh head... uh damage... might not be in tomorrow.”

Didn't even occur to me to... to phone my long-suffering wife and family.
And then the second thing that came into my head was...
“I’ve got to take a picture of this!”

So I lifted the phone up over my head and took a selfie, and this is the picture!
I think if I go into the properties, maybe I could see the... the time of day that this was shot to get the exact time.
But the best thing was that a policeman had helped me throughout.

A police officer who happened to be male had helped me, and I... a week later I managed to get in touch with him and I want to make this video and tell the story of my accident and what I heard happened and what wonderful thing... that you think London is quite a cold place but actually quite a few people came to my aid.

And I, I think it'd be quite a positive video to make and that is how I got this scar that looks like either like I’ve got some food on my face or that I have uh that I was born this way.
But it wasn't, it’s just from where I uh hit the road.

So that's it, those are the ideas that I’m working on for the next video but which one should I do next?
There's a poll in the description if any of these ideas trigger any kind of response why not leave a comment below it'd be lovely to hear from you, but it's really helping to get them out of my head and out onto here so I guess it's one step closer to actually making them.

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
How do you add rows of videos to your YouTube channel?
You know those different sections of videos on your YouTube channel home page.
I'm going to add some to my channel right now and show you the entire process step by step from beginning to end.

Hello I'm Neil and I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you to get ideas out of your head and out onto here on YouTube to make the world happier.

I'm figuring all of this out for myself at the same time.
I've launched a few new YouTube channels.
Look here's one, and I just want to make them look a bit... well, less barren.

I want them to make them look better so I'm going to do that in real time with you and you can follow along with me and hopefully we'll get this done in no time.
The first place we're going to go obviously is YouTube studio.

If you click on the three lines in the top left hand corner that expands this menu.
We're going to go down to customization and this opens up our channel customization page.
There are three tabs at the top: layout, branding and basic info, and I've covered those other tabs in other videos.

The links to those are in the description below but this first page - the layout page - is exactly what we need to create these shelves, these little bookshelves of videos for our YouTube channel page.
Now at the top here it gives you the option to add a video to the top of your channel home page.
And there are two versions - two different flavours!

You can add a video that acts as a channel trailer for people who haven't subscribed to your YouTube channel yet, and you can add a different video for people who have subscribed.
I'll just show you how this works.

If you click add... Now embarrassingly I've only got, what, nine videos here but if you had more you can search for them in this search box here.

And if we want to save these choices I can just hit publish.
So if I refresh my channel home page here, I'm already subscribed so I get the train video.

But we want to add those rows of videos to the channel page and you do that just below here: in this section called featured sections.
Now I already have one row of videos and that's called "uploads".
That's basically my entire list of videos with the most recent on the left hand side, but if you click on this button here "add section", it gives you lots of other options to add different rows to your home page.

Let's go through each one just to see what they look like so the first one is popular uploads.
And here it seems to have ordered my uploads in order of popularity.
If I hit add section again, the next option is short videos.
Well I haven't got any of those so I want to remove this row from my rows.

It's really easy to do that.
On the right hand side of the bar it gives you options and we can click on remove section.
Let's take a look at another section: "live now".

If you're streaming a lot on YouTube you might want this section near the top of your page.
And if I hit add section again I could also have a row of my past live streams.
But the one I think you and I both want the most are the playlists.

You have three options here.
There's a single playlist, and this is where I can choose any of my single playlists to be the entire row for that section on my home page.
So let's choose london buses and I can add section again to add another playlist.

So I'll select single playlist again and then I can choose trains and railways and you see that it adds it as the next row down.
If I wanted to have a row which included all of my playlists in one row then I'd select created playlists.
I have five playlists on this channel and you can see they're all arranged in the row.
Now let's say I want to make that row at the top of my channel home page it's really simple.

If you go to the two bars on the left hand side they're kind of like grabber bars and now I'll click on those bars and I'll drag the entire row up and I'll drag it all the way to the top and let go there.
So now if I hit publish, this is how my YouTube channel looks now.

You can see that created playlists is at the top as the very top row underneath that featured video so I have the featured video, the created playlist and then the other rows that I arranged in my list.
Now that row at the top is all of my playlists so if I wanted to select a number of different playlists and choose which playlists are in that row, let's click on "add section" and we'll select multiple playlists.

So if I wanted this row to just include playlists about trains, well I can search trains here and it would bring up those playlists or I can just select them from the list.
Let's call it imaginatively TRAINS exclamation mark, and I could move that playlist up to the top as well.
There are two more sections that I can show you.

If we click on add section and scroll down to the list, this section is called "subscriptions". This is a row where I could show the latest channels that I have subscribed to and the final type of section that we can choose is featured channels.
Now I've made a video all about this.

It's on screen now and in the description.
This is where you can link to any other channel and the channels that you select in this section also show up in your channels tab, so if you want to publicly associate your channel with maybe one of your other channels or other channels that you enjoy that's the place to do this.

So I'll just call this "my other channel" and there I am.
I'll hit tick and there I am.
My happy face!

When you have the sections looking how you'd like them to, you can go up to here and hit publish.
Be aware it takes a couple of minutes for the changes to... to come through to your channel home page.
But this is how my channel is looking now.
Look at it!

That's lovely and that's nice: if there's only one video in the playlist, it's giving it the full row to that video, so that's great.
So what do you think?
Leave a comment below, it'd be lovely to hear from you and if you're feeling even kinder why not give me a thumbs up just to let me know somebody reached this point of the video.
And right here is what YouTube thinks you should be watching next.

Hello, so this is me... just before I go live on YouTube for the very first time.
I thought I ought to get the camera out, and um, show you the setup before it all goes however it goes!
I'm, um, a little bit nervous about this because I've never gone live on YouTube before.
I've got a-- this is my setup, hello.
This is me in Streamyard, I'm using Streamyard to do this, so I've gone into the Studio.
I've setup my caption, I've got my guest.
He's got a link so I'm waiting for him to join the call.
And I'm also - I've managed to get an old monitor out of the loft [LAUGHS], and it's great because it means all of the screens that I want to share live on my live stream are just somewhere else, on another screen so I'm not panicking and hitting I don't know what buttons.
These are the choices here for what I can switch live.
There's-- That's me.
And with my guest I can be side by side.
Or I can be box in box.
And, ooh, we've got a guest appearing now, and you can share screen.
Anyway... let's see how it goes!
We are joined... Yeah go on, bit of music would be great thanks Mark!
We are joined on the Great British YouTubers podcast with Mark A Wright, so I’m even pointing the right way with my mirrored camera and I’ll show you how that works in a minute.
Mark how are you?
I’m very well Mr Mossey how are you doing?
This is an experiment to talk about going live on YouTube while going live on YouTube and it's part of a bigger live video that's going out right now but you're probably watching the recording and Mark we've been talking a lot the options open to you as a musician for... for streaming live and I’m doing it on stream yard which is why I’ve got a logo scorched into the-- the corner of the screen.
Is streamyard something that you've looked into just before I show you around how it's working for me.
I have and the reason why I haven't pursued it is because it tends to distort audio if you're playing a guitar so I don't know whether this is going to do it to you now so it'd be interesting but...
[PLAYS GUITAR DISTORTED]
I... when I did a streamyard link with someone before and it was basically I was there as a guest for 20 minutes and like a two hour stream...
I did some rock and roll and it sounded awful so I think the speech is great for music I think that's something about how it processes the audio.
But if you are interested in looking into streamyard let's go live on my second camera.
Hello this is the happy hut, this is where the the magic happens and I’ve got the live link to Mark A Wright down in the corner there so if you can see this Mark but this is the dashboard.
This is the streamyard dashboard.
I found it really easy to, to set up.
You just get a streamyard login at streamyard.com
Once you've logged in you can basically title your live broadcast so I’ve put in a description and a title and hopefully that's the one that you can see when... if you're watching live right now.
Wow that's a bit of a sort of Bohemian Rhapsody kinda look up there isn't it.
This is the dashboard in front of you.
Everything is laid out so clearly so I’ve got my options here for the layout.
I can split the screen, so I’m doing it on the screen there, so that's a split screen there or we can go box-in-box and I could go big and small and we can screen share.
We can screenshare with both of us.
I’m just working along the... the line here so isolate that again, or I could punch up the... the screen share completely and you can choose which chrome tab or which window or which monitor even - which display to switch live.
The other really nice thing with it is that on the right hand side you have banners so if I turn that off, it names us if I split the screen.
You can see us - sort of feel I’m ignoring you I’m here, and you can switch up any banner you like so I can put up this banner you can get as many as you like you can even change the colour of them.
With the pro version the banner is taken off - this streamyard logo is scorched in live you can take that off if you pay for the paid version.
I’m thinking of doing it.
It feels so much more natural to do this as a live than a recording.
So Mark we've had two comments come in, should we see them?
Yes!
Basically all you do is click on the comments button and it lays them out.
NoMoreNewbie let's switch this out straight to air so I’ll split the screen by clicking the split screen button it would help if I switch to decaf.
I think my camera operating would definitely improve, so we have a selection of comments.
Let's switch NoMoreNewbie up live.
Hi Neil I’m taking a quick break from work and that's your live stream hopefully it's going well.
I think it's going okay no more newbie and I’ve been looking into streamyard so really interesting to see behind the scenes of it being used.
Thank you well that's really kind of you.
I hope this encourages you to dip your toe in because I was terrified of doing it and Mark very kindly offered to to be on a live stream so to talk about live streaming on YouTube as a live YouTube stream is a very exciting moment for me I think.
I think it's the perfect way of doing it actually.
Well just while we're here I’ve screwed the camera to the wall on a monitor holder, this is a tip from the DSLRshooter.
He showed how to do this but put this onto like a pole that you could move around.
I screwed it to a wall and it's just... it's just saved everything because the hardest part of making a YouTube video is to just get the camera out and mount it on a... on a tripod.
Right.
Because if you're performing live I guess you've got a date and a location, you've just got to do it but if you're making videos ad hoc just getting the equipment out is hard enough.
So that's just permanently set to go and so you know all you need to do is pull out that camera stand and then you know it's already set for the angle that you want it to be
that's great!
Totally, it's really easy to set up and you're just good to go and I got a an old monitor out of the loft because you can get monitors in... in charity shops in the uk for like 20 quid at the moment?
So I’ve got your Facebook page here so we can click on that live.
So you've got your equipment that's set up to go, so you fire it up anytime...
Do you find that has led to you being more creative because you're able to be more spontaneous making your YouTube clips because you haven't got to think about setting up?
Totally 100 percent.
It's a good question what I’ve been able to do is to just make tiny little improvements each time.
As I say that I can see that I’ve left the box up in the background but generally it just means I can make little incremental improvements.
So with the lighting I’ve not shown this actually I’ve got this from lidl from a supermarket.
It's just a lighting panel.
Right.
If you were to get this as like pro photographic gear it would probably cost over a hundred dollars, this this cost me about 30 dollars?
Is that something that you plug in or is it...
Yeah it's a plug-in light and you know even comes with a remote control so you can change the colour, you can change the intensity.
I think lighting is so important actually with live broadcasts so if you go... if you can pull up my Facebook page or my YouTube page...
You'll see how I’ve lit my room which is basically it's the same position so where I am now I’m just in the corner of my room, you can see it.
Now you can see what's going on in the background, now there's a big Elvis sign.
That's my flat screen television.
And if you look at the background, it lends itself to being lit and that just changes colour gradually throughout each performance on each song.
But it's about creating the atmosphere while still keeping the authenticity of where you are.
The amount of people that stream live and they do it in a kitchen and they put their angle I mean you must have seen this... where so and they do it and it's like the phone's like that and they're like "Yeah yeah... so what I’m doing is and I’m looking at screen yeah so what I reckon..."
You're seeing like their plates and like washing up and fridge.
Why would you show us that!
Think about where you are.
I consider this my studio, this is it.
Everything I do is in this position, so even your thing "oh it's just Neil in the shed", but it's not just Neil in his shed.
It's not just cobbled together, you are lit yeah because you're--
Hang on, bit of a cable issue there.
Let's say your YouTube clips always look really good as you then lost picture!
Well thanks and it's just tiny tiny notches, so down here that's a Routemaster bus cushion.
I’ve got an up lighter here.
I’ve got my homemade YouTube play button for when I got 1000 subscribers that my son made out of hama beads.
And these folders are actually they're-- they're real I’ve got stuff in them.
You've realised that that area, your working area, is in effect your set.
That's what you welcome people into.
It's what you use for work but you're also conscious of the fact that you know what, there's some files in the background... the lovely picture of the YouTube thousand subscribers.
None of this would really be noticeable to anyone watching but what it does do it invites you in.
