Hello, welcome back to the channel. This is the Ebac 4850 21L dehumidifier. And oh my goodness, it's pretty. I like this. I have made a number of dehumidifier videos on this channel, way more than I thought I ever would. But a comment that kept coming up on my other dehumidifier videos was Ebac. "I've got an Ebac and I love it." And I'd never heard of Ebac until those comments. And then Ebac got in touch with me and said, "Would you like to try out any of our range?" I said, "Hell yes." Judging by the comments, I was intrigued. Ebac very kindly sent me this series 4000 dehumidifier. This is the most powerful dehumidifier I've ever tried out because the one that I bought was 18L. I'll talk about the liters in a moment. So, the chance to get the most powerful in the range was too good an opportunity to pass.

This is a really simple first impressions unboxing review. I'm just getting this out of the box and seeing if I can work the control panel and see how this thing works out. I'll even try out the app that you can use to control this unit. We'll also look into how much power, energy, electricity this dehumidifier uses just to give us a ballpark figure on how much it might cost to run. So, let's break into this. Got my special steak knife. I think I might need to use the stool. Oh, so for this they've sent me the caster kit because it doesn't come as standard with casters. So, you can just freestand it anywhere. Or you can get the special caster kit to put the dehumidifier on wheels. Ooh, I like the look of this. Wow, it is quite heavy. There we go. Ooh. So, let's unfurl it. Taa! I like the look of this.

So, let me give it a spin just to give you a proper close-up tour. But just out of the box, we've got tape, transit tape holding on the cable here. The cord looks very generous. I'll put the distance on screen now. That looks like a meter and a half of power cable. I guess this is the filter. And it's quite intuitive. It just comes off. It's a nice foam mesh filter that looks very easy to clean. And that protects the grill at the back. Just put it back or just clip it on like that. And obviously there's a nice cord holder here. And at the front here, this flap pulls forward. I guess this is for access to the tank. Oh, that's easy. Just comes out one-handed. That's nice. And in here usefully there's also a quick start guide which—I mean this is my bugbear with all British products—but this is at a decent font size. Thank you Ebac. It drives me nuts. You get these instruction manuals where you need a laser to read it. I think I can just about read that now.

I'm glad I've seen the very first thing in the quick start guide which is to leave your dehumidifier standing to settle for 2 hours. And I guess it's a bit like a fridge. There's a compressor inside and I think the coolant liquid needs to just settle for a couple of hours before it starts to be pumped round to cool the air to condense the liquid from your air and turn it into water and dehumidify the air. We've got to leave this for 2 hours. Ebac have given this dehumidifier to me to review, but they've done it without any conditions. They've just said, "Here it is. We've seen your dehumidifier videos. Do your thing. Make what you will of it." They've not given any conditions for this unboxing first impressions review.

Now, first impressions out of the box. This unit is absolutely lovely. The plastic has a gloss to it, so it looks super clean and it looks really easy to wipe clean. And these things do gather dust because they're essentially a fan. And I found that dehumidifiers do tend to attract a bit of dust towards it. So, this will wipe clean really easily. I really like the shape of it. This is like Eva from the Disney movie, the Pixar movie WALL-E. It's really nice. And this is the largest, most powerful in the range. It's 21L, which means that it will extract 21L at this reference level that I put on the screen now because I can never remember it. It's something like 30° centigrade and 80% humidity? It's a way of us being able to compare the power of dehumidifiers to see how much they dehumidify. So this is 21. Now that's towards the top end of how dehumidifiers operate. So to get that much power and it is quite a compact unit, I think compared to other brands of 21L dehumidifiers. So I already love the size and the footprint of it.

Should we put the casters on? While I'm doing that, let me tell you what's on the box. Apparently, according to the box, it's the only dehumidifier made in Britain. It has smart control, which could save you money in running costs over a year. There are over 1 million dehumidifiers sold by Ebac worldwide. They have a UK-based customer care team, and they have an app for Android and iPhone, iOS. Well, you have asked whether or not you can operate the dehumidifier with the app when you're not at home. So, I might try that while I'm on the dog walk with Casper tonight. This is it with the casters on. And oh, that's nice. Moves around. I think I prefer this without the casters. I think I like it sat on the floor.

Should we switch this on? I think it's time to turn it on. Right. So, let me bring the camera over and maybe I can give you a quick overview of the control panel for the first time. I've not seen this before. So, let's try the power button. I've turned the power on and oh my goodness, this is lovely and colorful. Oo, it's just kicked into life just by switching the plug on. To turn it off, obviously we've got the power button there. And look, that's on standby mode. There's a little moon icon. Let's press the power button. One press and it's on. Now, I'm assuming that it's sampling the air. This S in a box shows that it's in smart mode, which is the Ebac intelligence. I don't quite understand the Ebac intelligence. I don't think I'm intelligent enough. We've got a timer button, a fan speed button, and a mode button. I believe if I press the fan speed button, you can probably hear the fan has increased and the speed of the green fan is going fast. And if I press it again, goes down to low speed. Oh, that's nice and quiet.

In real life, the control panel is crystal clear. And I think my camera is probably struggling with all the different light conditions. So, if it looks a bit blurry on screen, I'll try and get a shot of it looking crystal clear because it looks absolutely gorgeous. I love that it's a colorful display as well. So, we've got the smart mode where it apparently monitors the home during the day. And in the quick start guide, it says leave it on standby and it will learn how your home operates. Let's press the mode button. And this is target mode. So, we have a little target symbol. I think that's my favorite mode in target mode with that flashing. Let's see if I can set the... Yeah, there we go. There we can set the target humidity. So, if you're new to dehumidifiers, this number here is the percentage of humidity. So, at the moment, this unit is still sampling the air, but it's reading 68%. That's quite humid, and it might be because I have my washing out over there at the moment.

So, it's 68%. If I want to change the target, so this dehumidifier will run until it hits—I'm going to hit the target button, make the target button flash until it hits 45%. This dehumidifier will keep running until it hits 45%. If I hit the mode button again to make the target flash, I can then adjust this using the left and right arrows. So that's 35% and it goes all the way down to 35. And so it's going to go out of focus. If I press the up button, I could have the target as high as 80%. Now you can hear the dehumidifier fan stopped because we're at 68%. So it's under 80%. It doesn't need to run. If I reduce the target humidity, so I'll hit mode, get that target flashing again. There we go. And then we'll press the down button. So I usually have it set at around 50 or 55%. That's quite comfortable for a room.

Just to give you an idea, on an aircraft, the humidity can be as low as 18%. So you know, you feel really dry and dehydrated after a flight. They keep it as dry as possible. Before we had a dehumidifier, my daughter's bedroom got up to as high as 83%. We had mold growing all over the house. I believe mold starts to grow in conditions above 65% or 70% humidity. That's the ideal kind of humidity to allow fungal black mold to grow around the house. We have used dehumidifiers now for coming up to 2 and a half or 3 years and since we got our first dehumidifier we've not had any mold and I've gone looking for it—every year it would appear in a new place—I'd be chasing mold around the house. Since we've had dehumidifiers it's gone. It's just gone.

And also this will come on to the next mode next—since we've had dehumidifiers we haven't had to use our tumble dryer. We only use the tumble dryer for big things like towels or if we need to dry something really super quickly, we whack it in the tumble dryer. But with the dehumidifier, it means we can hang up our washing and let the dehumidifier remove the water from the room. It works really well. It's a bit of a pain having to hang up clothes to dry rather than just shoving them into the tumble dryer, but the cost savings are enormous. Tumble dryers just gobble up electricity. I might put my little power measure on to see how much power this uses. So, I press the mode button. This has gone into boost mode. So, the unit—I don't if you can hear the fan—the dehumidifier will now run continuously at the highest fan speed and maximum capacity. So, that will use up the most energy. But, if you really want to dehumidify the room quickly, you could whack it on boost.

Let's press the mode button again. We've now gone to t-shirt mode. T-shirt mode is laundry mode. And I think you can probably hear in laundry mode, it runs at a higher power. I'm not quite sure what the difference is between laundry mode and the boost. If I press it again, that puts it into smart mode. The dehumidifier automatically monitors and adjusts humidity levels based on room conditions, optimizing performance while reducing energy. I don't know what that means, but it sounds good. If Ebac intelligence can work out a routine for this house, I will give it a biscuit. I'll give you a biscuit because honestly, we have showers at 2:00 in the morning. We might suddenly have seven teenagers appear at the door who then stay for what we're told is an hour and then becomes six hours. It's wonderful. It's great. Probably not so great for the humidity in the house. If Ebac intelligence can cope with that, I will be very happy. And if not, I don't care because I've got target mode and I know where I stand with target mode because I'm a control freak in terms of humidity.

I know it's 68% humidity at the moment. And if I press the mode button, the target humidity is 50%. So, this will just keep going until it hits 50%. These arrows here will illuminate when the dehumidifier is running on continuous without a timer. So, the timer switch is down here. Let's press timer. And you can see it's not hours. So, how do I change that? Right. So, I've held down the timer button so it's flashing. And I think I can press the up button. Yeah, there we go. So, I can set the dehumidifier for a number of hours and it will just run and then turn itself off, right? It cycles up to eight hours. So, if I want to just in the morning before heading off to work, just want to set it going for 7 hours and then it will turn itself off. That is a good energy saver. I like that.

And it looks—I know I'm all fingers and thumbs because this is the first time I've used this control panel—but this does look really easy to use, which I really like. I love that there are only four buttons. I can demonstrate another icon if I open up the flap and take out the water collection bottle. You can probably hear that the dehumidifier turns itself off automatically. And we have this icon here, which means that the water container is either full or that it's not in the right position. So, when I push the water container back in, the control panel comes back to life and it starts going again. This is so simple. I like it. Ebac, I do like the simplicity. I love the colorful control panel. I've not mentioned this yet. I absolutely adore the look of it. And I adore that the fan is on the side. There are some other dehumidifiers on the market—it's all personal preference, isn't it?—but they have the fan on the top, which might be more efficient, but for me, I'm an ADHD dad. So, I drop drinks. I've dropped sawdust, bits of wood down the fan in the top. This is ADHD dad proof.

And I also really like the shape of it. They have these kind of... I don't know what you'd call it in design terms. Tear. It's like a tear motif. And if I get a shot from the side, you can see the curves of it. It's really beautiful. Online, I don't think it looks that good, but in real life, it looks really jolly and nice. I think Ebac have done a really good job, and I'm really don't think it comes across on the photos that I've seen of this unit. Around the back, we've got two other features that I really like. I really appreciate this because with other dehumidifiers, it's a bit difficult to lug them around if you want to move them room to room. It's got a really nice built-in handle, really good grip. That's totally again dad-proof.

And then underneath it, we have the filter. We had a look at that earlier. I love that I don't have to buy a filter because that would suck. It's just foam. It's like scratchy hard foam and that will collect the dust and stop dust going into the precious unit. But I think this is a plug for attaching a hose. If I wanted to run it continuously and I didn't want to empty the water bucket and just have it continuously running, I think I could attach a hose to that. I'm going to try and download the app now. In the quick start guide, there's a QR code which I've scanned. You can see my phone on screen now and it's taken me to Smart Life. So, I'm going to download that. I've already I've got it already. I downloaded Smart Life for an SOS button for my dad for a video that I've not made. So, I think I've got a login now.

I'm really no good at apps. But what I have found out is if I click the plus button at the top right hand side here, then hit scan and then scan the QR code in the quick settings guide, the quick start guide. I can then hit add. It says, "Power on the device after it has been powered off for 10 seconds." Okay, 10 seconds has passed. So, I'll turn the dehumidifier back on. I can see there's like a little Wi-Fi logo on the top flashing. So, I'm going to press next. It says reset the device. Hold the reset button. I guess it's the power button. So, hold that for 5 seconds. 3, 4, 5... Confirm the indicator is blinking. Now to put in my Wi-Fi password. Connect your mobile phone to the devices hotspot. Oh, I'm getting all kinds of options. I'll hit add. Well, it looks like it's being added. Oh, added successfully. Fantastic.

Let's see how... Oh my goodness. Look at this. You can see pretty much exactly what is on the control panel. So, I could turn it off from here. Ooh, that's nice. So, it's a bit fiddly to set this up and there's not much guidance. Hopefully, this video can show you how I've stumbled upon it. So, if I hit the on button, I like this. You can see that it's got a temperature. I can see it's 17°. That does not go down very well in the house with the family. So, that is my ideal dad temperature. Dehumidifiers operate more efficiently the higher the temperature is. The humidity has fallen to 65%. And that's good because I've got all the washing right next to me here. You can change the different modes here. Did you hear that? I don't know if you heard the fan. That's laundry mode. Then it goes to smart mode and then target mode. Oh, you can change the target here. So we change it to let's change it to 45% and hit back. I can edit the name of the dehumidifier. I can turn the fan down. So, there's the fan button here. Let's turn that down. That's nice. If I hit the boost button, don't know if you heard that, but boost button works.

What I'd love to know is, can I use this outside the house? That's something that you've asked me in the comments. When an app is attached to a dehumidifier, can you turn it on? So, it’d be great if this was in a garage or conservatory. I am now in the park giving Casper a well-deserved walk. And I've set up a camera above the dehumidifier so you can see the Ebac 4850 waiting for my command. I'm going to put my phone on screen now. So, I'm recording this. I want to see if I can I can still control the dehumidifier even though I'm not in the house, not on the same Wi-Fi network. So, here we go. If I press the fan speed, it seems to be responding here. If I turn the machine off, let's press the off button. There we go. Let's turn it on again. I mean, this looks like it works. I can see. Whoa, the temperature is 16°. I'm going to get some complaints when I get back. Let's change the mode. Let's put target mode. And I can set it to... Let's set it to 35. And I'll press back. I don't know if... I'll have to check the footage to see if this is actually working. I could put it into laundry mode there. I don't know if that's worked. Let's turn the fan down. Let's put it back into target mode. Maybe I'll turn the fan down there.

So, I've turned the fan down. This is amazing. So, in answer to the question, can you use the Ebac app, the Wi-Fi control away from it remotely? Yes, you can. From what I'm doing—and I'm really really not very good with these smartphone apps. Smart home apps. I don't get smart homes. I mean, this is great. It's a good feature. I can understand that if you have a garage, being able to control it remotely is great, but honestly, I just... all these smart home things. Isn't it just easier to just press the button that is in front of you? I do not need to bring telephony into this. But if it's something that you need, then the app seems to work. You're right there, Casper? Should we go back to see the dehumidifier? I think he did a poo over here. Better check.

Another question that you ask is how much power does a dehumidifier use. Now, I've been using dehumidifiers that run at about 110 or 145W. I've only been running it for a couple of minutes. Oh, something's kicked in. There we go. I can hear the compressor kick in in the background. 155, 157. Now, this is on boost mode. So, if I turn off boost mode there, the fan has now reduced. Will that do anything to the watts used? That's still running at 155W, which seems really in keeping with other dehumidifiers that I've used that are this size.

With other dehumidifiers, they make a feature of being able to push them up against the wall because the air intakes are on the side. The literature that I've seen from Ebac seems to suggest that it's best to put this away from the wall so that the air really does get to circulate and you can really dehumidify the air. I found it best to put the dehumidifier on in the hallway and have all the doors open and I have a really regular sized house. An 18 liter dehumidifier has been able to dehumidify the house without a hitch. A 21L I think will make mincemeat of the humidity in this house.

So my first impressions of the Ebac—I'm giving it a hug. I love this thing. I think it's great. First impressions, I'm really pleased with it. I like the unit. I like how it looks. I love the surfaces as well. I love its cleanliness. I love the little teardrop design. I love the curves on it. In photos, I'm a bit iffy about it, but in real life, this looks quite nice. And as you can see, it's not that tall a unit. I really like the colorful icons and the control display. I found the mode button a bit annoying because when it's on target mode and you press the mode button, it tends to stay on setting the target humidity rather than going through the modes. I think you just need to press it twice. So, I think that's me not being able to operate the equipment properly as ever. But if you're new to dehumidifiers, I think this will be really easy to pick up.

I really like the fan on the side. I've mentioned this earlier. I absolutely love having a fan on the side instead of the top because all kinds of gunk falls into it and over time, you know, all appliances gather dust. This is super clean, super wiped clean. I like how easy it is to remove the water bottle. Hey, I wonder how much we've got. Wow. I've only been filming for like half an hour. There's probably about 100ml of water in there. I also am a big fan of the fan being covered with a really easy to clean filter. I think that's really good and kind and easy. I am calling this a Dad Delivers success. Yeah, I'm glad that I've met Ebac. This would be a nice addition to my little cluster of dehumidifiers. I hope this video helps. If you are looking for a dehumidifier, you might like this playlist on screen now. It's all my dehumidifier videos. There'll be something there for everyone. I like it. Eback. I do like the simplicity. I love the colorful control panel. I've not mentioned this yet. I absolutely adore the look of it. And I adore that the fan is on the side. There are some other dehumidifiers on the market. It's all personal preference, isn't it? but they have the fan on the top which might be more efficient but for me I'm an ADHD dad so I drop I drop drinks I've dropped sawdust bits of wood down the fan in the top this is ADHD dadp proof and I also really like the the shape of it they have these kind of I don't know what you'd call it in design terms tear it's like a tear motif and if I get a shot from the side you can see the curves of it it's really it's really beautiful online. I don't think it looks that good, but in real life, it it looks really jolly and nice. I think Eback have done a really good job. And I'm really don't think it comes across on the photos that I've seen of this unit. Around the back, we've got two other features that I really like. I I really appreciate this because with other dehumidifiers, it's a bit difficult to lug them around if you want to move them room to room. It's got a really nice built-in handle, really good grip that's totally again dadproof. And then underneath it, we have the filter. We had a look at that earlier. I love that I don't have to buy a filter because that would suck. It's It's just foam. It's like scratchy hard foam and that will collect the dust and stop dust going into the precious unit. But I think this is a plug for attaching a hose. If I wanted to run it continuously and I didn't want to empty the water bucket and just have it continuously running, I think I could attach a hose to that. Thank you for making it to this point in the video. If you've got any comments, please say hi down in the comments section below. Are you struggling to get your Ebac 4850 21L dehumidifier connected to your phone? I try out the Smart Life app setup step-by-step for my Ebac dehumidifier: Finding the QR code, how to put the dehumidifier into pairing mode, and how to connect to Wi-Fi settings. But the real question is: can you control your Ebac Series 4000 dehumidifier when you're not even in the house? I take Casper for a walk to the park to see if I can change the Target Humidity, Laundry Mode, smart mode and fan speeds remotely. Hoping this will help if you're using your dehumidifier in a garage or conservatory, or remote building...

I'm going to try and download the app now. In the quick start guide, there's a QR code uh which I've scanned. You can see my phone on screen now and it's taken me to Smart Life. So, I'm going to download that. I've already I've got it already. I downloaded SmartLife for an SOS button for my dad for a video that I've not made. So, I think I've got a login now. I'm really no good at apps, but what I have found out is if I click the plus button at the top right hand side here, then hit scan and then scan the QR code in the quick settings guide, the quick start guide. I can then hit add. It says power on the device after it has been powered off for 10 seconds. Okay, 10 seconds has passed. So, I'll turn the dehumidifier back on. I can see the there's like a little Wi-Fi logo on the top flashing. So, I'm going to press next. It says reset the device. Hold the reset button. I guess it's the power button. So, hold that for 5 seconds. 3 4 5. Confirm the indicator is blinking. Now, to put in my Wi-Fi password, connect your mobile phone to the devices hotspot. Oh, I'm getting all kinds of options. So, I'll hit add. Oh, it looks like it's being added. Oh, added successfully. Fantastic. Let's see how Oh my goodness. Look at this. You can see pretty much exactly what is on the top of the on the control panel. So, I could turn it off from here. Oh, that's nice. So, it's a bit fiddly to set this up and there's not much guidance. Hopefully, this video can show you how how I've stumbled upon it. So, if I hit the on button, I like this. You can see that it's got a temperature. I can see it's 17 degrees. That does not go down very well in the house with the family. So, that is my ideal dad temperature. Dehumidifiers operate more efficiently the higher the temperature is. So, this Yeah, that's my that's my preferred temperature while everyone's out. The humidity has fallen to 65%. And that's good because I've got all the washing right next to me here. You can change the different modes here. Did you hear that? I don't know if you heard the fan. That's laundry mode. Then it goes to smart mode and then target mode. Oh, you can change the target here. So, we change it to Let's change it to 45% and hit back. What's the edit? I can edit the name of the dehumidifier. I can turn the fan down. So, there's the fan button here. Let's turn that down. Oh, that's nice. If I hit the boost button,

don't know if you heard that, but boost button works. What I'd love to know is, can I use this outside the house? That's something that you've you've asked me in the comments. When an app is attached to a dehumidifier, can you, you know, turn it on? So, it' be great if this was in a garage or conservatory. I am now in the park giving Casper a well deserved walk. And I've set up a camera above the dehumidifier so you can see the the EBAC 4850 waiting for my command. I'm going to put my phone on screen now. So I'm recording this. I want to see if I can I can still control the dehumidifier even though I'm not in the house and not on the same Wi-Fi network. So I don't know if it if it works. So here we go. If I press the fan speed, it seems to be responding here. If I turn the machine off. Let's press the off button. There we go. Let's turn it on again. I mean, this looks like it works. I can see. Whoa. The temperature is 16°. I'm going to get some complaints uh when I get back. Let's change the mode. Let's put target mode. And I can set it to Let's set it to 35. And I'll press back. I don't know if I'll have to check the footage to see if this is actually working. I can put it into laundry mode. there. I don't know if that's worked. Let's turn the fan down. Let's put it back into target mode. Uh maybe I'll turn the fan down there. So, I've turned the fan down. This is amazing. So, in answer to the question, can you use the eBac app, the Wi-Fi control away from it remotely? Yes, you can. From what I'm doing, and I'm really really not very good with these smartphone apps, smart home apps. I don't get smart homes. I mean, this is great. This is a good feature. I can understand that if you have a garage, being able to control it remotely is great, but honestly, I just all these smart home things I could just Isn't it just easier to just press the button that is in front of you? I do not need to bring telephony into this. But if it's something that you need, then the then the app seems to work. You right there, Casper, should we go back and see the dehumidifier? I think I think he did a poo over here. Better check. I hope this video helps. If you are looking for a dehumidifier, you might like this playlist on screen now. It's all my dehumidifier videos. There'll be something there for everyone. Thank you for hitting the thumbs up or the subscribe button. It really helps me to keep this channel going. If you are considering the Ebac 4850 21L dehumidifier, here's my best video shots to give you a complete 360-degree look at the unit's design, from the unique teardrop front-fan to the hidden 3.5L water tank. I explain why the "no-top-fan" design is a game-changer for avoiding dust and spills, and show off the compact form factor that makes this 21L model surprisingly portable. THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
This is the EBAC 4850 21L dehumidifier. I've seen a lot of dehumidifiers. I've made a lot of videos about dehumidifiers. This is the first time I've tried out an EBAC because you've told me in the comments that uh it might be worth taking a look at. EBAC very kindly sent me this unit. It's the most powerful in the 4000 series range. And I have a link down in the description to the dehumidifier, but I've also got a link to my unboxing review where I take a tour of the control panel. We try out the app and test how much power the unit uses. But when I make these videos, I shoot lots of footage from all kinds of different angles. And I thought that if you are looking for an ebac dehumidifier, you might appreciate just seeing this footage. I'll use this video to actually use it for clips in other videos about dehumidifiers and other units in the eBac range. But here is from all kinds of different angles, lots of shots of the 4850e 21L dehumidifier. It has a one button control. So on the control panel, it's very simple, very colourful. You can cycle through the different uh the different modes on there. So we have laundry mode, boost, uh a target humidity, and a smart mode. I use it I'm quite comfortable using it by just setting a target humidity and letting it run until it hits that humidity. You can probably see from the footage that the water collection tank is really easy to use. It's hidden. It stores 3.5L. So, the 21L doesn't refer to how much it it holds. It actually refers to how powerful the unit is. But, I quite like the jug that's uh hidden underneath the front flap.

I also like the fact that the fan is on the front with this kind of teardrop design. And I like the fact that the unit is curved as well. It's actually very easy on the eye. But most importantly, it doesn't have the fan outlet on the top lid. So, for me, that means I don't spill things into the dehumidifier or dust doesn't collect over time. Uh, so I like that it the fact that the top is nice and wiped clean and the clean, dry air blasts out the front of the unit. At the back, we have a filter. And I don't think you need to buy filters for this, unlike other dehumidifiers, which is a bit of a plus, for this design. I like the fact that it's just got a very simple uh filter to protect the fan and uh clean up some of the air as it passes through. When the unit is full of water, it shuts off automatically, so you don't have to worry about uh the thing flooding your hallway. And it has integrated carry handles. There's a built-in handle. Really easy to use. There's also a cable tidy so you can call the the lead up. There's a generous 2.1m power cable and uh a thing at the back so you can loop it up and not have your cable dangling all over the floor like I do in some of these shots. It also comes with casters which are an optional extra. I I like those. But I'm quite happy sitting this unit down. It's quite small. It's smaller than my 18L dehumidifier. So, I was quite impressed by the I hate the word form factor. The shape and size of it were very pleasing to me. And as you can see, you can sit it on a table quite happily. You can also control this dehumidifier with the eBac app. All the details of that are in my unboxing first impressions review video with the link down in the description. And if you want to see how much this costs, I'll put a couple of links down in the description so you can explore the eback dehumidifier range for yourself. I'll leave you now with some more shots from different angles. Afterwards, there's also a link to my full dehumidifier playlist where you can compare all kinds of brands and different sizes. to choose the right dehumidifier for your home and get rid of that condensation and mould.

Looking for a compact dehumidifier for a bedroom, student flat, or small apartment? In this video, I’m sharing my best video footage of the MeacoDry Arete One 6L. This is the smallest unit in the Meaco range, and I’ll give you a 360-degree tour of its simple, wipe-clean display, the HEPA filter system, and its impressive friendly shape.

SMALL Meaco 6L Dehumidifier: 360° Visual Tour and Design Review

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
This is the MeacoDry Dry Arete One 6L compact dehumidifier and air purifier. It is... it's really nice. It's really small and as you can see I've got it sat on my daughter's desk here or by the wall. It's I think the smallest dehumidifier that Meaco sell and it is a bit of a marvel. I'm used to really bigger, much bigger dehumidifiers, but this 6L model is ideal for maybe smaller flats or even student accommodation or student bedrooms. They prevent damp, mould, and condensation. I've been using a dehumidifier for about 3 years now, and it is completely changed our home. This room that you're seeing the footage of was absolutely covered in mould in all kinds of different corners behind the beds and furniture. And since I've had a dehumidifier, I've not had any mould problems come back. They've been really worth it for us. When I unbox a dehumidifier, I shoot lots of footage of it for the review, the unboxing, first impressions review. That video for this model, the 6L Arete One from Meaco is down in the description. But when I shoot all of this footage, I thought it would be nice if I just share it with you. So, this is just a video of this dehumidifier from lots and lots of different angles, so you can uh judge for yourself if this unit is right for your home. It has a built-in handle, and it has a really simple wipe clean display, which is really nice. It's really compact and when I plugged in a power meter, I worked out that the running costs at the moment at time of recording work out at about 3p per hour, which uh obviously nobody likes spending money, but for us, it was much better to have cleaner, drier air, which is cheaper to heat, and also use it for the laundry. So you can put this in a room and have your laundry out and not have to use the tumble dryer, which has been the biggest revelation for us with all dehumidifiers. But you can do that with this one. It's also an air purifier. So there's a filter at the back, like a coarse wire filter just to stop dusting into the fan. But it also comes with a HEPA filter which I believe I've been told cleans the air and removes dust, smaller dust particles and maybe even mould spores as well. They're not cheap to replace, but I've replaced mine recently and it really helps the efficiency of the dehumidifier and it's really nice just to have proper clean air as well, especially as I really don't want that mould to come back. The best thing with a dehumidifier any dehumidifier, but particularly this one, is that it stops condensation. And where the condensation happens, that's where the mold starts to grow. So, this bedroom that you're seeing it in, I've recorded humidity at levels of around 83%. And I don't know if you can see on the on the display, but it has managed to bring those humidity levels down to nearer 50 55%, which is much better to breathe, much better to prevent the mold. Anyway, if you want to find out more, have a look in the description. There's a link to my proper unboxing, first impressions review where I go through everything. I'll leave you with more footage of this unit alongside some of the other dehumidifiers. All the details are down in the description.

If you need a dehumidifier for a garage, conservatory, or unheated room, the Meaco DD8L 8L desiccant model could be the one for you? I’m sharing video footage of a complete look at its unique features, including the automatic motorized flap for drying laundry and the sleek, wipe-clean touch control panel. Desiccant technology makes this unit lighter and more efficient in cold temperatures than standard compressor models.

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
This is the Meaco DD8L 8L desiccant dehumidifier. And I've unboxed this unit, this dehumidifier in another video. There's a link to my full first impressions unboxing review. There's also links to this particular dehumidifier if you want to see how much it is at the moment. But if you're looking into dehumidifiers when I shoot these videos, I end up having a whole load of footage of the dehumidifier shot from all kinds of different angles. So, I thought if you're interested in the DD8L, maybe you'd like to see some of that footage and use it to judge whether or not this is a dehumidifier for your home. The full review is on that link down in the description. What I love about this particular dehumidifier, and why this one's different for me, is that it's a desiccant dehumidifier. So that you can use this in colder environments. It runs more efficiently in colder rooms. Dehumidifiers work by extracting water out of the air, and that means you get less condensation and less mould. It also means that the air is drier, which makes it less dense and easy to heat. But the problem with a dehumidifier is that it does work better the warmer the room is. This dehumidifier, however, works slightly differently. It has a desiccant inside and that's what draws the water out of the air, which means that it can do it more efficiently. So, if you've got something like a conservatory or a garage, you might want to go for something like this desiccant dehumidifier. A couple of things set this unit apart from the compressor dehumidifiers. You've probably noticed there's a flap at the front which can go up and down to direct the air and that's quite useful if you've got some laundry. It's nice to have the air kind of whooshed around in different directions or you can just press a button and have it stay open. It's your choice. It has a really sleek control panel. It has it's almost like a touch screen because it's flat. It's completely wipe clean which is nice. There's also a coarse filter at the back. So, there's a flap at the back which has a grill on it and that protects the fan from dust building up over time. But the other thing I like about this dehumidifier is that it's got a handle built into the back so you don't have an annoying thing to to pull up. You can just grab it. It's also, I found, for its size, much lighter than my other dehumidifiers. It turns off when it's full so you won't flood your your garage or your conservatory if it does actually fill up. And there's also a connection so you can connect a pipe and just leave the thing running. You can also use this remotely. I think you can use this with the Meaco app. It's really easy to empty the the built-in water tank. It's very discreet. You just pull it out as and when. There's even a little window on the side so you can see how full the water level is. This unit along with the other Meaco dehumidifiers has been designed to draw in air from the sides. So Meaco say that you can push this up against the wall and still have it work properly. The touchscreen display allows you to set the target humidity and it has uh laundry mode as well. So if you're drying some laundry, it can run at high speed and high power. I'll leave you with the the footage and the pictures to help you decide whether or not this might be the way to go if you're looking into dehumidifiers. Once again, the links to my full review are down in the description and also there are links for places where you can buy this.

Why 4 mins counts on my FAVOURITE day of the year

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
It is 11:00 uh on a on a Sunday morning and uh I've got to go and pick up my son from his girlfriend's because he's walking the neighbour's dog. That's good because Casper gets on with her really well and um it's a special day today. Uh it's the day that the clocks go forward.

Usually it's my favourite time of year. Uh, I just I love it. I love the weather. I love the sense of anticipation. The time from now, the time from now to about June, I think it's... it's... it's I just come alive. This is spring. It's like sunshine's finally here. But walking Casper in the dark at 4:00 is is is never fun. So, this is really good. that finally we can do some sunshine evening walks and ah it's the greatest feeling. I've always been like this. I've got a feeling it's linked to my sleep apnoea because this time of year is the apparently is the time when your vitamin D levels are at the lowest which is why everyone goes sick to the doctor in uh it apparently it's March April and you'd think it'll be like in deep winter but it's because they reckon not many people talk about this it's when our vitamin D levels in our bodies are at their absolute lowest because we haven't had any sunshine. And maybe we've made that worse by being indoors, you know, as a society lifestyle. Or maybe it's just that I'm a spring person. I just absolutely Oh, it's the best. I don't mind doing these short trips because I know that it's basically I feel like this is all the time I've got with him until he gets a car. So, I really don't mind being dad's taxi. Hey, how you doing? Good. Do you mind if I film this for the vlog? Yeah. Oh, okay. Cool. Um, I'm filming it because why? You know what today is, right? Sunday. Um, you able to grab the camera and just it's it's rolling. Just get Casper. Should I open it? I hope you

This is the first clock we're going to do in the hallway. I love this one. Fake sort of 1920s look. This is how I change the clocks, though. The time is 1:43. So, I'm going to set this for 146. I never know whether to do three, four, or 5 minutes ahead. I... I'll split the difference. I'm an ADHD dad. So, this is my workaround for us not being late for everything.

It's like daylight savings time, but it's it's like dad savings time. GMT plus three minutes or four minutes depending on how I feel when I'm setting it. This is our vision board which we hate. Uh should we take down the vision board today? Yeah. Has anything happened from it? Nothing from our vision board has happened and this has been what it's long enough for there to be quite a lot of dust on top of this. Maybe the vision was to to attract dust. We'll have to rethink this. Should I just take it down? Yeah. Okay. This is big. I... I just thought we'd be changing the clocks in this video, but we're going to be destroying dreams. Oh, I really didn't think we'd be taking this down. My god. So, it's 1:47. That means this should be 1:53. There we go. And I'm going to put the vision board back up cuz I can't face having to clean behind it. Onto the favourite now because this is why I started this channel. I put a video up on a completely different channel for how to change the clock on an oven and it did really well. Like it still gets really stupid amounts of views and I link from that to this channel. So if you have joined this channel from that video, uh, thank you. It's 13:49. So that means I'll change this to 13:53. Into the hut and I'll set this clock for I think 13:57. My wife's dad used to change the clocks in in her house. Wasn't our house. That would have been weird. Um, but he used to do it apparently by calling Tim. And back in those days, the only place we could get the right time was by calling a phone number. Probably still works. I haven't thought of trying it. I bet it's a premium rate thing now. So, you'd call this number and you'd get this exact time over the phone and you'd use that to set the clocks around the house. So, I sort of do that, but I deliberately offset it by our family tardiness. I can't cheat with this one. I got a fancy clock from Little and this is radio controlled and there was famously a a big issue with the clocks in Lidl because they they sold all these clocks that were radio controlled, but they were they were from Germany, so they showed very accurate German time. I'm not sure pushing the clocks forward by an hour is um is a good thing. Four minutes is enough. Can I change the clock? I'm making a video about changing the clocks. People know how to change clocks. Dad,
have you got...
I don't have any clocks.
Uh I'll do the ones in the bedroom then. So, we've got this great clock here. Uh bedside clock. It's brilliant. It's a flip clock. So, it says on and off. And when you want it to be on, you make sure that the on is up. And then it shows the uh the alarm time there. When you want to stop the alarm or not have it on, you just turn it upside down. Isn't that cool? I'll put a link to it down in the description, but I don't think you can get these anymore. So, it's 14:02. I think I'll make this 14:06. And it's the start of the Easter holidays, so we don't need any of that. Oh, this is my favourite time of year. It's my favourite day of the year. This is a crucial one. The central heating clock. Traditionally, this should be the day where the central heating goes off until October, but it's uh it's a bit cold at the moment. Oh, it's got it's got it it automatically does it. So, there's this really good uh feature where it automatically changes it for you to save you time. And I've just undone that time saving. Finally, the car. We've got a really big problem with our display because it sounds like it's exploding. We think there's like a dodgy connection
[SOUNDS OF SPEAKERS]
with the speakers and it... it it sounds like people are throwing bricks at the windows. It's really bad. I don't know why it's not stopping now.

Oh, here we go. Clock. Oh, that's really simple. There's a whole button here marked clock that I didn't see. So this is 14:08. We usually get late for football on a Saturday. So if I make this I don't know 1411...
To make this day my favourite day of the year even more special. There's just one more trip that I've got to make.

Hello. Hello. Hi, honey. Hi Lou.

What's up?

So, your friend went to McDonald's and got He got medium fries, a medium massive Big Mac, a medium zero Coke, one McFlurry, and one "no thanks".
A no thanks.
One no thanks.

The Real Cost Using a Flymo Mower

Have you ever wondered exactly how much electricity your garden power tools are pulling from the mains? I am putting a standard Flymo hover mower to the test on a 20m by 7m lawn to find out the precise cost of cutting the grass. Using a plug-in energy monitor, I track the kilowatt-hours in real time to see if the final bill is as bad as we might think.

If you are trying to budget your household energy use or just looking for a bit of motivation to tackle your own overgrown lawn, you need to see the final scores on the doors.

The Real Cost Using a Flymo Mower

Hello. Ever wondered how much power one of these takes? It's an electric mower. It's a really standard Flymo hover mower. But how much does it cost to run? I'm going to test this out on our garden behind me. It's 20m by about oh, I don't know, 7m. But how much does it cost to use one of these? Uh, obviously your circumstances will be different, your grass length will be different, but I just wanted to get a rough ballpark figure of how much power, how much energy this costs to run. And I've got all kinds of hazards in the garden. There's uh where our washing line is. I've put this cane on because every time we take the washing line up, we always forget where the the crucial hole is in the middle of the garden. I've also got all kinds of Casper's toys scattered amongst the grass. So, we've got some tennis balls, which are the absolute worst because they get trapped between the blade and the the mower motor. I've also got probably some presents from Casper where we've not taken him out and he's just done his business, done his thing. We also have this lovely apple tree and pear tree and they are starting to drop. It's not fully It's at the end of August, but the apples are starting to fall off the tree, and these don't go very well with the blade either. I've got some edging to do as well, but I'll probably do that after I've mowed the lawn. This is uh I guess this is the mow with me video I've always wanted to make. And I don't know if you can see the the length of the grass. I'm trying to show it as best as possible on screen, but I've managed to get away with only mowing the lawn twice this summer. Um, I... I could say that I'm doing it for biodiversity, you know, to help the insects and birds, but uh I can't get away with it for much longer. I do actually need to mow the lawn, especially up by the... the Hut cuz uh it's getting really long up there. I really don't want Casper squatting between the blades and scooting on this for much longer. He he also keeps getting grass seed in his hair, his hair? His fur. That's what dogs have. If you're a dog owner, obviously you know that is really not good. Some dogs have even had grass seed growing in their ears. So, we're now balancing the cost of energy on the Flymo mower with the cost of a vet bill. The way I'm going to be measuring the the energy use, the electricity use is with this plug here. I can hit the button and it cycles through the watts, the kilowatt hours. That is what we're charged for. And over here, we're on I worked it out from our latest build. It's 23p per kilowatt hour. So that will give us a total obviously not including the uh standing charge which seems to have doubled in the last year. But just for the electricity alone uh so it's zero at the moment thanks to my zero gardening. I am starting off in the near corner of the garden partly to be near the camera and partly because I can't face tackling the rest of the 20m ahead of me. Uh it's also shaded as well. So, I don't want to get sunburnt or heat stroked. Yeah, this is a really nice start in the corner of the garden. And it's also where the grass is the shortest for some reason. I don't know why. The hardest part here, I should really leave this to the trimmer, but I'm mowing over the stepping stones that my wife very, very kindly put down. It's beautiful path up to the happy hut. Even though the blade does hover over the stones really nicely, sometimes it just hits the wrong angle and the blade hits the edge of the stepping stones. I'm just going to stay in this corner, but I think the suspense is building up now. I really want to know how much this is costing before I tackle the rest of the garden. Let's take a look at the other power that took. Let's see. Okay, 0.074 kilowatt hours. Okay, we're well on our way. Have we racked up any money? 1p. So, as I say, your circumstances may be different. Your mower might be different. I'm out of breath. Just from this small corner of the garden, that cost me 1p according to my calculations, which might not be the best, but I've got a very good feeling about this because yeah, this could be under a pound. Now, it's time to tackle the slightly longer grass around the monkey bars. It's the monkey bars which uh it's one of the first videos I made on this channel putting up these monkey bars. It must have been oh like 5 years ago. Uh but I... I didn't bother cutting this part of the lawn last time which was a few months ago. This is the longest grass. It's also probably in the sunniest part of the garden. And maybe that's why these grass stems have lots and lots of seed on them. And that seed is just flying up into my face as I'm mowing around the monkey bars. I keep telling myself that the more mowing that I do here means the less trimming or strimming around the monkey bars or the edge of the trampoline and edge of the garden. So that's a good morale booster just to keep me going with trying to throw this flymo over as many square meters of grass as possible. And come have a look. Let's see what it looks like now. I think that looks much better. Uh, I've left that patch there because this is this is Casper's massive hole. Look at that. He every time we fill it in, he just I mean, you can stand up in it. It's an absolute trench. Uh, so I used the strimmer for around there. But most importantly, most tantalizingly, how much power did that take? So, let's have a look now. 186 W. So, that means it is done 4p. So that section by the monkey bar cost us an extra 3p. Tackling now the area that is that always grows the longest in a tuft. The area around where the laundry washing stick, what do you call it? Washing line. Rotary washing dryer stands. We've got the cane showing me where the hole is because oh my goodness, we've lost this hole so many times. We've got the cane today. I'm going to take the cane out and just push forward. See if I can get a few more meters in. I'm actually against the clock now because we're due we're supposed to go go-karting. We booked some go-karts at 3:00. I think we need to be there extra early for all the safety briefings. So, I think this might be the last section that we do for now. And what can I tell you? I so don't want to do the mowing right now that we've just taken off for a few hours down to team sports carting in Gossports. Oh my goodness. This is fantastic. Uh, these are electric go-karts. I think I might release this as a as another video. So, I've gone from riding lawnmowers. I think I can now go back to pushing the lawn mower. Wish I could sit on it. Anyway, better better finish the lawn now. The total so far is just 5p. So, 5p for pretty much half the garden. Definitely a third of the garden. And the bit I need to do now is this stretch here. Let's start the the mower up. The problem with this section of the garden is because it's between two trees. It is really dusty and there are lots of sticks here. Lots of little sticks that get caught up by the Flymo blade. It copes with it, but it's just not pleasant cuz you got these sticks that just fly around and the dust that it kicks up. But I think this is the second worst part of the garden for grass seed for Casper's fur. So, if I can just take this down, I won't have to do it again this year, probably. So, we'll look at the scores on the doors or the energy on the the meter. That was one penny to do everything you just saw. So, we're up to 6p's worth of energy. Next, I'm out of breath. I think it's from holding the hover up um from trying to, you know, avoid hitting the the sticks and the dirt. And I can see I've missed all kinds of patches, but generally I've got it down. Now, we're on to this section. uh the section around the hut. I am really glad my son is doing this section of the garden because this is I think probably the most challenging. I really need a break. So this timing could not be better. The other bad thing is as well as all the other challenges of the sticks and the balls is that Casper likes to dig holes. So we've got trenches, hidden trenches in here that you can fall down and that you have to get the mower over and not have the mower fall down it. And my son is doing a brilliant job of taking down all the nettles that have uh that have grown. I think as well as a trimmer, I need to get my weed whacker to pull them out by the roots. But I've not found gloves yet to cope with the nettles that it manages to get in any pair of gloves that I've bought. Uh so I'll leave that job until the winter, I think. Uh anyway, he's making mincemeat out of all this grass, which is I'm just so thankful that he can he can do this. I really needed the break right now. Yeah. So, so it's gone from 6p to 10p. So, we're now up to 10p and we're in the final section. So, all that's left now is just the corner, the tree corner, which is covered in apples and balls and sticks. Great. Yes, I've done it. I've done it. I'm finished. Let's find the final total. take you over to the power adapter. I'll put a link, by the way, I'll put a link to this energy monitor down in the description where you could uh get one on Amazon. So, the grand total is 13. 13p to do all of this. Wow. Most of it, as much as I could bear for 13, honestly, I thought it would cost a lot more than that. And maybe it's a sign of my particular mower not being that powerful. It might encourage me even to do this more often. No, I'm calling this a Dad Delivers success. What do you think? Are you putting off doing your garden? Say hi in the comments. It be great to hear from you and great to hear your attitudes to the garden. And thank you for hitting the thumbs up or the subscribe button. It really helps me to keep this channel going. Our Log Cabin Failed... THEN We Found The FIX!

What happens when your DIY garden cabin project completely collapses with warped wood and extreme heat? My son and I tried to build the BillyOH Winchester cabin from Garden Buildings Direct to give him a teenager workspace, but twisted timber and rubbish floorboards left us with a structure that would not hold together.

After getting nowhere with customer support, we called in a local builder to save the project. I show how he fashioned a solid timber frame to fix the alignment so windows can finally fit, taking us one step closer to clearing the computers off our kitchen table... Here are some tips if you want a wooden garden office, pod or workshop.

Just before I put the camera on, there was this clang - crash!

It happens... right, let's go back to the timelapse. Man.

So, end of day three and didn't think we'd get this far, but we got the window frames up. The we're on to some of the warped boards and they they were really bad. Um, this one is down in that end and just up in the air here because this one is so warped, but it's looking good. We're supposed to have done the floorboards, but because we don't have the technical details, uh, I haven't put those in yet. And actually, it's a lot easier putting the ladder on without wibbly wobbly floorboards.

It's the final rafter to go before the roof.

So, I'm showing this to my son for the first time. This is insane. Look at this.

This looks a lot better than whatever... we did. We did. Oh my god. He's like... "Oh wow." And the the window fits in here. Yeah. Yeah. Isn't that amazing? This... when we put the one on the back. Yeah. Yeah. So, that was the roof. It was really... Oh my goodness. So, when I started this vlog, it was to try and capture things around the house. Observations as a dad. This is the start of a series of vlogs. I don't know how long I'm going to keep this going, but I'm going to try and capture something every day. And today I'm capturing this which a builder has built. It's... It looks like a tiny house. It's amazing. And all of it is to fix something that didn't work out so well. Look. So, we tried building this. It's from uh... it's called the BillyOH Winchester cabin. And it's... Yeah, it's meant to look like this. And in reality, it looks like this. Except it didn't look like this. We did, Joe and I, managed to get it all the way up to the roof. and we built the roof. We even got the flooring down. We just needed to get it to a point where someone who knew what they were doing could finish it off. And unfortunately, I think because of the materials, uh, it didn't work out because the walls that were straight when we put them up, but in the extreme heat, the walls have kind of now look like this. Let me go closer. The walls now look like this, and they just weren't holding at all. So, we couldn't get a window in. And I think it's peculiar to this this size of cabin because if you have a bigger cabin, you can have bigger walls here that hold the window. But all we had was just like a pile of pile of bits of these put on top of each other. They just didn't they didn't fit at all. We've paid for this with uh money from my dad who uh left us last year. So, we thought, you know, we treat treat ourselves and give my son somewhere to put his PCs, but this has been going on since uh since June. This has been going on for about two 2 and 1/2 months. The wood was twisted at the beginning. I'm not that fussy. It's okay. I know that wood is a natural product, but this stuff had like knots and big holes in it. the the floorboards weren't floor, they were holes and they didn't lock into each other. So, I tried contacting the company. Again, this isn't a grievance-based attention farming video. Uh, it's just our journey that I contacted the company and said, "Look, can you help us out?" Because these floorboards, they're really not. And they just sent back usual icy shrug of indifference. So, Garden Buildings Direct thought that these boards were good enough. I'd beg to differ because if you've got floorboards on the floor and you got big holes in, you're going to see underneath the shack and there's water under there possibly. Uh I just need proper floorboards and they they refused and I know I'm not experienced at this but it's been very disappointing. The BillyOH Winchester I... I wouldn't recommend it. So anyway, so now I called a local builder who couldn't believe how they were supposed to go together. So this afternoon he's fashioned this. It's like an Amish building, isn't it? It's like an Amish barn that we're going to raise. And it's also um I don't know. It's like one of those things from the the Black and White movies where I stand there and the whole thing can fall.

I'm so excited about this because it's a proper frame now that the that the window will fit. We we didn't have that with the BillyOH Winchester from Garden Buildings Direct. Yeah. So, this is this is what it should look like. And this is what it shouldn't look like. So, hopefully we'll have a place to put all of this.

One or two computers. We've not seen the kitchen table since November. It's about uh 10 months ago. We are days away from getting our kitchen table. All of that is to get the kitchen table. Can't wait. Casper, what do you think?

How a Movie Set Builder SAVED Our Log Cabin Disaster

It is day two of rescuing our Garden Buildings Direct BillyOH Winchester log cabin. After the original walls warped wildly in the summer heat, our builder got to work fashioning a completely custom, square timber front to replace the wobbly original logs.

I show the dramatic difference between the twisted original wood and the new rock solid frame. With perfect joist cutouts and a structure strong enough to hold even me, we are finally ready for roof joists and cladding. Check out how a former film set builder is turning our DIY disaster into a proper garden room office pod thing.

It's sunset on day two of trying to rescue our terrible garden buildings direct BillyOH Winchester cabin. It's actually BillyOH NO! Winchester cabin. Look at this. It's up. It's up. Let me spin the camera around. Ah, finally we have a front that's actually square. That doesn't warp in the sun. that doesn't have gaps in it. Well, it's obviously got big gaps, but they're for the window and doors, but they're true, so they're gonna fit. And just to show you how bad the walls twisted in the heat, look, this this will really show up on camera. So, we've had to overhang. Say we, our brilliant builder, uh, sorted this out. Look at this. Look how that wavy Davy line of the wall goes. That is how twisted it was. Um so it's almost like a feature now. Um it's like um it's character, isn't it? It's nice bit of character now instead of just gaping hole. Gaping holes for walls that weren't walls. Don't know how we're going to sort out the the floorboards, but yeah. Look at this. That is how badly twisted. Look. I mean, there's a blooming gap there. Um, awful. But anyway, the front is fantastic. And it turns out, uh, our build I'll run some footage of the of the frame going up. And it really was like that Buster Keaton thing where if it falls over, uh, you clear the door frame. But we we lifted it into position. He spent about well he he must have spent a day and a half designing and fashioning this front because it had to fit exactly the joists. Uh which I can show you now. Look the joists and they just fit perfectly in a way they did not do with the Garden Buildings Direct uh BillyOH Winchester. Uh they're all gaps and this was all wrong. It was just off. Um, it wasn't anything we had done. It just it's just not straight. So, now it's perfectly straight. And the the gaps for the joists for the roof to go on tomorrow. I think we're going to get a roof on tomorrow. It's lucky we've got uh a week of good weather. Another week of no rain. Let's go back to the footage of the uh the frame going up and we had to push it into place um pretty exactly. So he he actually put a like a doors stop actually screwed it in so that it would push against it. We knew it would be in exactly the right position. Go back to the footage. And what you probably can't see is that there's a line of silicone uh down the side as well. Obviously it'll be it's all going to be screwed in to place as well, but the front is absolutely perfect. And the windows are in exactly the right position and it's centered. Even though the walls are wavy davy all over the place walls, we know that this front is is is perfect. And so it's going to look so good. I think obviously it doesn't yet match the log cabin look of the the rest of the of the shack, but uh I think we're going to I think he's going to clad it with feeder edge boarding. I think it's going to look really good. But underneath it, it's insulated, it's solid, and it's square. It's perfectly square and perfectly straight in a way that it has never been. I mean, look, look, we I can show you now. This is how it came from Garden Buildings Direct. They just didn't these pieces, they just didn't they look straight, but when you put a pile of them uh in a row in a column, there's no way that that was going to be a perfect fit. It I mean just it just they just kind of teetered on the edge and the height of them didn't match the height of the boards on the right hand side. So, it's a bit difficult to explain, but you've basically got a pile of blocks like it's Jenga, and the windows and doors are going to slam against this this thing that wobbled, and that I can really push this. It's totally solid. I can hang off this. I tried hanging off the other one just to kind of try and bring the the boards together, but this is totally 100% solid now. Turns out the builder used to work on film sets. Um, it does look like a film set build when it went up. It was just so perfect for this garden and for what I do in this garden with the video making. Uh, so I love that little part of the story with it as well. And it looks great on the decking that our brother-in-law made as well. I'm just so happy with how it's coming together. We were so worried that it wasn't going to work. Also, I think the the look of the the cabin, it was the the best that we could find for what we could afford, but the um it just looks a bit twee... it looks a bit like a sort of, you know, Daily Mail supplement, garden furniture ad kind of design aesthetic to it. It's not offensive, but it there's just something a bit old about it. And what what's nice about what we're doing now is I think it's going to look a bit more I don't know what the word is. It's not rustic. It's going to look homemade in in a good way. So, that's the update on day two of rescuing our BillyOH Winchester cabin. Really pleased with how this is going to come together. It's it's obviously taking so much more work, but at least I know that work is being done properly. I'll try to keep updates coming on the channel. I'll put uh I'll put these in a playlist, I think. And that's on screen now. Also on screen is what YouTube knows you want to be watching next. Oh yes, it's going to stand.

I Pushed Our Log Cabin Project TOO FAR

Part 3 of rescuing our Garden Buildings Direct BillyOH Winchester log cabin, tackling the completely buckled roof and rubbish floorboards. The original summerhouse roof boards warped so badly in the summer heat wave that they pulled the walls apart, forcing our builder to make an entirely new plywood and felted roof frame.

With a cold brush-off from customer service to furious neighbour complaining about the noise, I'll see if we can get solid barge boards, new felt, and proper window frames for the garden pod office.

I Pushed Our Log Cabin Project TOO FAR

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
This is the third update now of how we're trying to rescue our Garden Buildings Direct BillyOH Winchester log cabin or as we've dubbed it BillyOH NO! On the previous videos I explained how us putting the roof on actually made the front totally buckle in the heatwave and the warped boards the they were just so twisted that eventually the walls kind of twisted the front off. to the point where it was impossible to put the window frames in. We could put them in, but we couldn't attach them to anything. We got some help from a local builder who has managed to build an entirely new front for the log cabin. And turns out he's a a former set builder on film sets. So, we now have a garden cabin that's effectively a film set, which is what I wanted for this channel. And I think I showed this on the last video. over here. You can see how bad the walls warped in the heat cuz that is a straight line. And yeah, you can see just how wavy uh it is. Look, I mean, I put my finger in the gap between the the logs there. The next big thing was I didn't put it on camera. He he managed to build a roof as well. So, the roof boards were completely useless. They're completely buckled in the heat. They were too thin. I've got them under the tarpaulin in here. Don't know why I'm protecting them, but they completely buckled under the heat and that's what was tearing the front of the walls off. So, he's built this completely new frame at the top here with plywood and we've managed to Can I get the camera up there? We've got uh roofing felts and I I went out and bought some new roofing felts as well because I think the stuff we had was total crap. So, it it's watertight, which is great cuz we had a little bit of rain yesterday. We're in the middle of a heat wave, though. So, it's mainly the heat that we're protecting the uh the cabin from. I've got a big job today, and that is Well, it's not big. I've got to put down the floorboards that we took up. These ones on the top look good cuz I've selected them. Underneath there are all kinds of atrocities. We've got I can point one out right here. We've got like big holes in the floorboards from knots, but I've also the tongues on the tongue and groove disappear to nothing. So, the boards don't lock into each other. We I tried contacting Build Garden Buildings Direct and try to explain the situation and can you help me out with some extra floorboards? They said no. Um the knots are there for a reason. But on their videos, the the floorboards they use are of course completely pristine so that you can't see down through the floor into underneath the log cabin. That's the whole point of a floorboard. The first thing I need to do is to remove these three floorboards. And this looks like a really simple job, but it's taking a bit of bit of work to get this final floorboard out. But the reason I'm spending so much time on this is that I can't mess around with these floorboards. I've only got a very specific number that are any good and even that is short of the number of floorboards that I need. So I need to get this out really carefully because I don't want any more damaged floorboards.

The next job is to sort out the floorboards that we've got. I've got this system going where I put good boards to the right hand side, bad boards to the left, and the ones on the left have got things in them I think that make them unusable. The floorboards on the very very left hand side are the worst. Moving right to the best, and then on the right hand side, I keep that graduation going so that the very best boards are to the right on the right hand side. I'll show you the problem I've got that Garden Buildings Direct think is okay. Let's put the camera up. Look along here from here to here. No tongue. Don't know if you can see this on camera, but no tongue here. No tongue at the end to lock into the groove. There's no tongue whatsoever from here to here. So, there'd be a gap. Oh, and uh there's a hole there from here to here. No tongue. No tongue from here to here. And there's a big crack from here to here. Big hole in the floorboard. Big hole in the floorboard. And another one here. Big hole in the floorboard. Hole. Hole. No tongue from here to the end. Big hole. Big hole. There's no tongue from here to the end. No tongue from here to the end. So that doesn't interlock. No tongue from here to the end. Oh, and there's a nice hole here to see you with

I don't know what to do. I think what I'm going to do cuz that's not enough boards on that side to do the whole shack. But I think I'm going to try and put the nice ones sort of in the middle. So, those ones you'll see. And also, I'm thinking those are the ones that will take the most traffic. With my floorboards sorted, this is I thought this was going to be a breeze, and it wasn't. Uh, it was very tricky because the some of the floorboards just weren't in a good condition. I've got to choose and mix them up so that the the boards that have the tongue missing at the end, that that tongue is towards the other end. It's not at the entrance. And I'm also choosing that the not so good boards for the edges. And then as I get into the middle of the shack, I'm trying to favour the floorboards that are the straighter ones, the ones with fewer knots and the ones where the tongue is is okay to go into the groove. So when it rains, it will go onto the deck. You know that they are going to soak up moisture. They are going to curve up. I've moved some battens to near the door. because of the way I put it up, um there isn't that much of a lip for the floorboards to rest on. So, I've put some batterns by the where the door is going to be so that they don't curve up just at the point where you step into the shack, you know, have a bit of extra uh support under there for feet coming into the front door. I'm trying to nail that. I'm not nailing all of them because it's pretty late and I don't want to be causing that much noise. It's now sort of 7:00 on a Sunday. Yeah, this is this is hard work and it's so much quicker with another pair of hands. If you're having to do anything like this, don't do it by yourself. Get someone get someone to help you. But the boards are so warped, we've got to put nails in just to hold them in place so that the later boards that go in aren't going to be uh you know gappy. There are some gaps where there's the tongue's missing. Stop. Stop. Why? So, something bad just happened. I've had to come away from the house to record this. Um, we got yelled at. Well, we didn't get yelled at. My wife got yelled at. I didn't get it on camera, but uh someone banged on the door like really bam bam bam and uh complained about the noise completely reasonably cuz it was half 8, quarter to 9 and we were still hammering. uh needed to get it down for the builder coming tomorrow morning, but um yeah, it didn't go down well. Told that it's been going on for weeks, which is kind of true that they're trying to enjoy a meal in the garden and all they can hear is banging. And they weren't they weren't from like next door or the next door to that or the door next to that. This was from like way up the road. It has been going on for weeks. I'm sick of it, but I can't do it when it's 34°. We're in a middle of a heat wave. This this like the hottest temperatures ever recorded for July. But it's really embarrassing for my wife and my wife had to take the brunt of it as well. She just came in. She's like, "Stop, stop, stop." So, uh, but at least we've got the boards down. They're ready for the builder tomorrow morning to uh start work on the windows and doors. It's the end of the next day and I wanted to end the video on a on a bit of an up because we've got some developments with the shack. We're calling it the shack now, I think. Take a look at this. We have proper barge boards on and I love how I love how they look. I think they look great. And you probably noticed it's had a bit of a... a facelift. We've got the felt which I believe protects it from moisture. stuff is going to go on top of that. So, it's all still to play for. It's just looking great. And also, uh, he managed to finish off the the floorboards as well. I still need to nail quite a lot of nails in. You can hear it creaking. My son and I didn't we've not done any down the side and a lot in the middle that haven't been done yet. That's a bit of banging, I guess, but we can do it during the daytime and I'm going to space it out over the week as well. We also have some window frames. They're work in progress. But look at this. Look how good they love the the overhanging lip. Can't wait to see how that works out. And we've got the door frame as well. So now there's something proper to fix to instead of the the wobble wobble. The doors instead will have a proper frame to attach to that does not wobble wobble through. Sturdy sturdy.
