This is the MeacoDry Arete Two dehumidifier and air purifier, and this particular model is the 12L version of the Arete Two. I have a playlist down in the description comparing the Arete One with the Arete Two, and all my reviews are there. But while I'm filming those reviews, I shoot all this footage of the Arete Two dehumidifier from every angle, and I thought, well, why not just release all of that footage so that you get to see this dehumidifier from every possible angle to help you decide which is the best dehumidifier for you?

In terms of reviews, specs, details, and unboxing, those links are down in the description. But you might just want to see what this thing looks like and decide whether or not this will fit your home. If you're looking for dehumidifiers, I know exactly the position that you're in because the most important thing we use it for, particularly here in the UK, is to try and stop mould from growing in our houses.

The UK housing stock is really good at keeping heat in, but absolutely terrible for ventilation. That means the air in our homes gets damp, and when that damp air hits a cold surface, as you probably know, it condenses. Then you get wet patches, which is where the mould can spread and grow to its heart's content. The idea with a dehumidifier is that if we remove the moisture from the air, we can then have drier air, which reduces mould. That’s the theory.

We bought an Arete One dehumidifier from Meaco exactly last year, and I can honestly say it has absolutely transformed our home. Because I made some videos about that, Meaco reached out and provided us with this 12L Arete Two dehumidifier and air purifier. We've been using it for about a month now, and it's absolutely fantastic. It's obviously much smaller than the 18L, 20L, and 24L models, but it does pack a punch and certainly reduces the humidity in our house.

We’ve got a three-bedroom, two-up, two-down house, and it just makes the air feel drier and more comfortable. Because it’s less damp, it’s also quicker to heat the house, which we weren’t expecting. With drier air, it takes less energy to increase the temperature, making it cheaper to heat your home. The air is less dense when it’s not carrying moisture, and this makes a surprising difference.

The third reason for getting a dehumidifier—which we hadn’t even considered—is for drying laundry. If you're using a tumble dryer, the cost of heating it for that long is obviously high. Now, we just hang our laundry on a rack in a room with the dehumidifier, and it dries in about half a day to three-quarters of a day, depending on the load size.

Meaco claims this particular dehumidifier costs about 3p an hour to run, and it’s definitely saved us money on electricity bills compared to using the tumble dryer. You're seeing shots of the back of the dehumidifier here. It has a built-in HEPA filter, which means it also purifies the air while dehumidifying. There’s even a button on the control panel to turn off the dehumidifier and run it solely as an air purifier—perfect for the summer months or hay fever season.

The Arete Two is a step forward from the Arete One in a few areas. Along the top, there’s a louvre, a manual movable flap, which stops things from falling into the dehumidifier—a feature the Arete One lacked. It also has an LCD Chase display, so you can see the humidity level in your house and track changes with easy-to-read bars.

The Arete Two is compatible with the Meaco app, allowing control from your mobile. Additionally, it can be switched on and off via smart plugs, and it retains its settings when power is cut off and restored. It has a laundry mode with faster airflow than the Arete One, and Meaco claims it’s quieter. There’s also a 1-to-12-hour timer, making it easy to set it up for specific tasks like drying laundry.

Meaco recommends this dehumidifier for flats and one-to-three-bedroom houses. After using it for a month, I can confirm it performs as well as the 18L model. However, my personal advice is that if you can afford and have the space for a larger model like the 18L or 20L, go for it. Larger models dehumidify and purify more quickly and have bigger storage tanks. The 12L tank holds about 2.5L, which is enough, but you’ll need to empty it more often compared to the larger models.

If you’re looking for something smaller and more portable, the Arete Two is a fantastic choice. It’s easy to wheel around with casters on the base. For more specs and details, there’s a link in the description with everything you need to know.

We couldn’t be happier with this dehumidifier—it’s the perfect choice for us. I hope this little tour helps you decide on the best model for your home.
