How much YouTube pays me per 1000 views with 3000 subs in 2021

How much will I get paid by YouTube for my videos?
I was monetized by YouTube almost exactly 1 year ago when I hit 1000 subscribers and had over 4000 hours of watch time. But my YouTube revenue has dropped - and views and watch time.
I share all my YouTube Analytics: CTR click-through rate, Google Adsense payments, RPM how much YouTube pays per 1000 views, watch time from subscribers and average views per viewer.

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
how much money does YouTube pay me at 3000 subscribers?
my revenue is dropping massively this month and I'm showing you why that's happening to me plus I'm going to share the effect that big changes can have on your YouTube channel

I'm going to show you everything - sharing as many statistics as possible... my google adsense payments, my CTR - the click-through rates, and how much cash I'm paid per 1000 views

Hello I'm Neil Mossey and I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you to get ideas out of your head and out onto here on YouTube to make the world happier
I believe so strongly that the world is a better place when your videos are out on here along with mine and to do that I'm sharing my entire journey and all my mistakes
some of which you're about to see

I think five of my biggest mistakes are coming up!
so let's dive straight into my YouTube Studio dashboard
there it is, I'm currently on 3257 subscribers
I'm hoping that'll go up by the time you see this
oh my goodness look at that summary though
my views are down 32% to about 20000
that was from nearly 30... 32000
my watch time is down 40% and my revenue is down by over a third
that figure used to be somewhere between 220 and 250 dollars a month
it's now looking at 120 dollars
and this is what February looks like for me
let's scroll up February your channel got 20000 views and look is exactly the same as I got one year ago to the month

in fact I think I probably got more - yeah I got more a year ago and one of my videos went viral and I was monetized in march 2020
that's this big column here
109000 views and you can see it's just declined in a nice gentle curve all the way to the bottom of the year
and then it's plummeted from 32000 in January down to 20000.
but if I click on my estimated revenue... now $123 is nothing to be sniffed at
I'm very grateful and pleased but it has plummeted from the heady days of November and December last year which is usual I believe

but look... look how it differs
so my views curve down but if I click on the revenue, the revenue kind of does the opposite
it kind of goes up in a hump
so my best month was November at $286...
$269 for December that's pretty much because the revenue just drops on Christmas day
we've got a whole week there where we're not earning as much money and then January there's a drop
but this massive drop here, 210 dollars to 123.
give or take a few dollars it's dropped by half
my revenue has dropped 50% in one month
now why is this
there's a very very simple explanation and that is these top videos here

I deleted my top five videos
I've niched my channel and to do that I removed 150 videos but what I didn't do was tackle the very top five videos because they were bringing in money and thousands of views
I didn't want to touch those
in January these were my top five videos
at the top is how to get a PAC code which is how to move cell phone networks here in the UK
I've got how to recover zoom files
my reading of the instructions to a Vaillant boiler which is a central heating contraption and buying online postage in the UK and best dehumidifier
now I was worried that four of those videos don't really link to anything else on my channel
so I was caught in a... in a strange place because these videos are doing really well for me
in one month those two videos there are getting four thousand each and the next they're getting two... two and three thousand views
they're also bringing in about sixty dollars in revenue per month
it's not life-changing but as a proportion of the business that I'm doing on YouTube this was pretty massive
I mean this is pretty much a third of my views per month

so at the end of January I took a very difficult decision to delete them
I removed my four of my top five videos
I'm one month on and these are my top five now so my top video is how to recover zoom video file recordings which is great
that's still doing 4000 views and some others have taken their place so how to change your YouTube channel name are the second and third top rated videos
how to update the firmware on a Sony ZV1 camera and how to add subtitles
those are my top five
they're not getting nearly as many views as my previous top five but do you know what?
I'm still really glad that I made this decision because at least I know when somebody reaches the end of one of these videos they're more likely to click on one of my other videos
whereas the dehumidifier video if I've shown you the best dehumidifier well that's great but I don't have anything else on my channel that's even remotely linked to that
but I just... I just felt that I was sending traffic into a into a blocked dead-end street
of course I miss the $60 to $80 but let's go in and see how much these videos are earning me
so this is my top rated video it's all about how to recover video files when a zoom call has ended
now since published this video has earned me $400 which is great but for the last month it has it's earned me 46 dollars and the RPM there hasn't really changed at all

it's averaging about eleven or twelve dollars per thousand views
and if you're interested this is my CTR my click-through rate for this video is 6.6 percent
if I change this to since published the click-through rate is is a bit higher than the average over the last nearly year
let's look at the click-through rate for my whole channel for this month so that is 5.3%
so a 6.6% on my top video is is looking pretty good yeah?
my second new top five video is how to change your YouTube channel name and this came out in the middle of December so it's been published for about two and a half months now and look at that graph go!

since published the curve upwards which is looking very healthy for the last month
let's see how much this video is earning
it looks like seven dollars... seven dollars a month on 2000 views which means that the revenue per thousand views if I click on the revenue tab, you can see the RPM in the middle here per 1000 views for February... I'm getting $3.47 which is it's lower than the average for my channel which we'll take a look at now

yeah the... the average for my channel is six dollars per thousand so although it's the... the second most highest rated video is pulling in half the money per thousand views
my third new top rated video is how to change your YouTube channel name
this video came out in the middle of January so it's only been live for about six weeks in which time it's earned three dollars
let's click on the revenue
the RPM is even lower - two dollars per thousand views - so although it's one of my top rated videos that's pulling in pretty much the most views, the revenue that I'm getting per thousand views isn't... isn't nearly as good as my channel average
now I've worked quite hard on the thumbnail for this one
I find the thumbnails really difficult to make anyway but they're especially difficult when it's just me talking through... like this one where it's me just talking through a screen recording

there isn't that much you can put in a thumbnail but what... whoa!
what I'm astounded by is the click-through rate
do you remember it was like about five or six percent?
my CTR is 11% on this video so that might explain why YouTube is offering it more than the others
the watch time is going through the roof but it's a short video
it's only a couple of minutes long but because the average view duration is 1 minute 16 let's scroll down to audience retention
yeah look I'm getting nearly 45% of that video watched on average
so again that's another really good sign to the algorithm except the average view duration is really short

and let's go to my audience retention
there that... I mean that explains it right there
something happens in that video to make the audience plummet
so I'm at about 60 percent until about halfway through the video which is great
let's play the video from here
[VIDEO AUDIO] "...setting that we need, it's not entirely super obvious but this pen icon here if I click on it it brings up the name of your YouTube channel."
So there RIGHT THERE is where the audience go: "great that's why I came to this video thank you very much!"
and off they go and my audience retention just plummets
but it's really good good news that it's getting so many views per month on my channel

that's a surprise that it's gaining 20 subscribers since it was published that's... that's good for one of my videos in a month
now my fourth top rated video - I've got good hopes for this because the views have been phenomenal
it's only been live for about three weeks
I published it in the second week of February and it's already got a thousand views
the revenue is five dollars and it's five dollars per thousand views
now that couldn't really fluctuate because it's still early days yet but that's a good sign
it's picked up 12 subscribers
my average views per viewer is 1.2
that... anything more than one is good

it might work because it... it indicates that people watching this video watched some other of my other videos
the average view duration's three minutes which is again... that's 41%
that's pretty healthy for mine
obviously I'd love it to get the viewer retention over 50% for any of my videos so 41% is a good step in a good direction
let's look at the click through... the click-through rate 7.2%
these are really good statistics for my channel what I feel have been vindicated on is that removing those other videos... dehumidifier and you know how to change a garden trimmer... having those videos gone now to another channel
this channel: my tightwad dad channel
I'm just really glad that those videos aren't clattering up my top five because I can see the videos that I want to concentrate on and the videos that I want to do well
it really helps not being distracted by these other videos that don't really link to anything else on my channel
and my fifth top viewed video is this one
how to make subtitles for your YouTube video

I love how that curve has gone up because it's so gentle growth here and now that looks like it's shooting up
it's only nine dollars since I released it
in December last month it pulled in three point eight seven dollars
let's see what the RPM... the RPM's six dollars which again that's that's healthy
I'm pleased with that so those are my top five best performing videos this month
let's go back to just look at the channel overall
I'm hoping that if I can catalogue it here I'll be able to see in time if this changes over the year to see if my channel does improve

my overall reach for this month is 5.3% on the click-through rate
if I scroll down down to the the CTR funnel...
yeah the overall impressions are down 43% because I've removed so many videos from my channel but for this month that's a 5.3% click-through rate
if I jump back to December three months ago pretty much the same click-through rate but on so many more impressions which is why I was getting so many more views
the average view duration was 2:55 and in February it's two minutes 29 seconds so my average watch time has has dropped
also if you're interested if maybe you're comparing my figures with your figures to try and guess how much money you might earn when you become monetized at 1000 subscribers or 4000 hours watch time

this is my traffic source table
41% of my video views come from YouTube search
30% comes from external
I put my videos on my blog
I've got this strange feeling that linking to my YouTube videos on a on a blog
not just a blog but it's a google blog
it's a blogger blog owned by google
I'm trying out this idea that having a link somewhere else on the internet shows YouTube and google that my videos might be worth taking a look at in terms of rankability and I've got feeling that the 30% external views might be an indication that... that that might be helping
December is on the left and this is what it used to look like
I used to get 39% through YouTube search that's not changed that much really
it's 41% now
the external hasn't changed

suggested videos has gone down a lot but I think that's because my overall traffic has gone down
my watch time from subscribers... I know I'm starting from a really low base place but back in December only two percent of all my video watch time came from subscribers
in February that's 3.4 percent which is still tiny and a little hint that if these figures are helping why not hit the subscribe button but after you do that let's just just consider for a moment that means my watch time from subscribers has pretty much gone up by over 50%
but way more than 50 percent
so although my views have gone down those views are actually coming from people who have visited my channel before

this month I'm coming up to the one year anniversary after I got monetized so this is pretty much my year end revenue roundup
for the last six months I've shown you these before on on these videos but it's pretty stark just to show you what is happening on my channel right now
you can see September through to December I'm bouncing around between 268 and 286 dollars per month
I removed all of my videos that don't fit my niche
the videos that I don't feel are helping the channel in October and it didn't really seem to make that much of a dent in my revenue
I might have earned more money than that, but it didn't make the revenue go down
then after December we have that big drop after Christmas which was kind of expected
and then the biggest self-inflicted experiment when I unlisted those top five videos
the revenue has... has really really plummeted

you can see just how big a drop that is but I am in the process of filling up this channel with the videos that I really want to put out into the world
I didn't really come onto YouTube to show people how to change the battery on their vacuum cleaner and I did really well with those kind of videos but it's not where I want the channel to go
I feel very comfortable in having nearly half the money
I really need the money as well
I'm playing a long-term game and the long-term game's this:
that at least my videos all linked together now
I mean look at my top earning videos for the lifetime of the channel
that zoom video is my number one video just trying to encourage more people to put more things on YouTube
the next four videos don't quite fit into that category

I guess the mobile phone video sort of does but those next two are garden tools videos so I am really really glad that I've removed them
the statistics that I get are so much clearer now
the overall year so far on 2021 and so far my average CTR my click-through rate is 5.1
my average view duration so far is two minutes 43
I've got 341 subscribers I really really want to get to the 10000 subscriber mark just to unlock the facilities that you get at 10k subscribers just so I can make videos about experimenting with those
but 10000 subscribers the rate I'm going will take me another probably two or three years so I'm hoping that one of my videos might take off or maybe a few videos so that my growth becomes a bit more sustained

and I think this is a really good sign
this is so buried in the statistics
my... my biggest most optimistic sign that I've... I've had and that's my average views per viewer is now 1.3
I have never seen it at 1.3 before
it's the average number of times that the viewer watched any video on my channel so 1.3 is a sign of of growth and a sign that I'm managing to get more viewers to come back to my channel
and my adsense revenue for the year so far is 334 dollars on a revenue per mille - that's revenue per thousand views - of six dollars
so I get about six dollars 30 cents for every thousand views
the highest I've had this year is nine dollars
oh man that would be so good if it's... if I could get it up to that

I'm having lots more videos like this on my channel
you've probably noticed it if you're a subscriber if you're not why not be awesome and try and take me one step closer to that 10k subs and right here is why you might want to niche your YouTube channel

NEW YouTube TAX form for non-US creators? Agh! How to fill it in?

YouTube announces taking US tax from your US views channel payments, if you haven't completed the Withholding Tax form on Google Adsense.
If you live in the UK or a country with a tax treaty with the US, filling in this form NOW could mean that your withholding tax is reduced to 0% so that you are not taxed twice for the same payments.

If you don't complete this form, Google will automatically take 24% from your US payments (adsense, superchat etc etc) - which could be a lot of money and mean that you are taxed twice.

So, as a non-US creator, I walk you through the questions on Google Adsense.
Do I even need to say this? Please don't ask me any questions.
I'm not an accountant, or a tax adviser and I don't know your tax situation.

I'm so sorry but I've got enough things on Netflix I am avoiding - I can't be responsible for your payments.
I do hope this sneak preview of the process helps you get started though.

NEW YouTube TAX form for non-US creators? Agh! How to fill it in?

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

so you are a YouTuber a YouTube creator who lives and works outside the US
I haven't seen many videos about this
you've probably seen all the warning signs saying you've got to fill in your tax details
you've got to declare yourself to the IRS
the sun has come out just at this exact moment just to emphasize I'm not... I'm not an accountant or a tax advisor
I just wanted to make a video showing you the process that you might face when filling in your US tax information into Google Adsense for your YouTube channel
I'm only going to show you some of the questions that come up just so you can prepare and get ready to fill it in yourself
in the description I'll put a help article and a help video as well that YouTube have issued
all I hope is that seeing what's ahead is useful to you but I'm very aware that if you get this wrong you could lose quite a lot of money
the place that I'm using to go through all of this is this YouTube help article and there are step-by-step instructions here so we're going to hit sign in for my Adsense account
this is what my Google Adsense dashboard looks like
the next thing we need to do is to click on this menu in the top left hand corner and go down to payments
you can see I've already got a nice friendly red bar
it's always a good sign isn't it when your account has a big red banner
now I could click on that button now that would take me straight there but I'm going to show you the way just in case you don't have that banner
we're going to go down to settings and click on manage settings and then on this page
there's a little pen icon next to the words United States Tax Info
so I'll click on that and then click on manage tax info
that takes you to this page which only has one entry at the time that I'm doing this
who knows, this might be populated by more countries in the future but it's labelled United States Tax Info and we will click on this button here: add tax info
now I've had to reconfirm my Google login
the first question is what type of accounts do you have?
individual or an entity - or non-individual?
the next question down is are you a citizen or resident of the United States
the final question on this page is select your w8 tax form type so that's if you are an individual or a business entity
Now you can drink your week apple drink now or save it for later
to tax identity: make sure this information is exactly the same as on your tax documents and that the form is signed by an authorized representative of this legal entity
now on the individual tax form it asks for your taxpayer identification number (TIN)
seek some advice
then you have to put in your permanent home address...
this is going to be fun for all of those vloggers from vans
then it asks you this question under tax treaty:
are you claiming a reduced rate of withholding under a tax treaty?
again I'm sorry this is so boring but you've got to seek your own advice I can't help you with this
the next section is document preview where Adsense will show you a preview of how your tax document will look before it's issued and then the next friendly fun-filled section is certification
basically it's a signed declaration where you get to sign the form electronically and then the final section is activities and services performed in US and affidavit where you're asked if you've performed any activities and services for Google within the US
and then hit submit and now you get the swirling loading... wheel of doom
now obviously I'd love to show you all my personal details but I've blurred them out just to say that you are told instantly whether or not it has been approved or not so that's good
and if you need to change any details there's a submit new form button so you can change if your circumstances change or if you see that there are any errors
I can only hope that showing you the questions that come up help you prepare for filling in your own form with your own correct details but good luck us.. non-US YouTube creators
so if I can continue to help you by by showing you what's ahead then why not click the subscribe button and it's on screen now and thanks for coming along this journey with me

Did YouTube just destroy Amazon Affiliate marketing on YouTube?

Did YouTube just destroy Amazon Affiliate marketing... on YouTube?
I saw this really small aside mention that an experiment is being rolled out where YouTube will detect products in our videos, and run shopping ads underneath the video.

It was on today's Creator Insider video, "Known Issues" Card on Mobile, Cumulative Subs in YouTube Analytics, YOUR Questions, and more! https://youtu.be/Z8aYgNOzyb0
What does this mean?
And what exactly IS YouTube Watch & Shop?

Did YouTube just destroy Amazon Affiliate marketing on YouTube?

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

I don't want to panic you and I really don't want this to come off as clickbait but this is really weird
did YouTube just completely end affiliate marketing on the YouTube platform?

I saw this today
it was a really tiny announcement on a video on the Creator Insider channel which is where YouTube tends to make announcements to creators

it's 15 seconds long, and about two minutes into their news flash video that came out today
and finally we're expanding on an experiment that detects products in your content or related products now we've experimented with this in the past and what it does is allow viewers to decide what to watch next and what to do next
that's all
that is all it said

but look at the screen grab
can you see it what it looks like is that under the video, YouTube or Google will serve adverts - direct shopping adverts - to the products that appear in the video
and it looks like those adverts... they kind of look like the adverts on the Google shopping tab

so does this mean that YouTube is completely wiping out making money on YouTube by using affiliate marketing?
isn't this like really massive?
I mean people make like six figure sums a year from Amazon Associates

is this a whole industry on YouTube that's being wiped out?
and is it me or is there so much to pull apart in this 15 second clip especially if you make money from affiliate marketing
let's take another look at the screen grab

it looks like this feature is called watch & shop and sorry it looks so blurry
this is how it looks on the official YouTube video
and from this it looks like to me that Google will offer ads underneath our videos to the products that it can see in our videos

we already know that things like Google Cloud Vision can completely interpret images and YouTube analyzes our videos frame by frame for all of this metadata
so the idea is if it detects a product it can directly take the viewer to a place to buy the product straight from our videos

so here's the problem and why I think this is absolutely huge
if you and I make money from affiliate marketing here's how it works at the moment:
I make a video where I talk about a microphone - like say this microphone here - and I make that video last about six minutes

then down in the description there are these links here that link to the products
in this case they link to Amazon and if you click on the links there and buy the products or other products I make a commission on that link
but look at this - and I know it's blurry I'm sorry - but this lovely visual box will now automatically appear to whisk your purchase after you've done all that work... the buyer is whisked away and can buy it straight from that Google ad

so does this mean that Google earns all the money from that sale?
and I know I'm racing ahead but there are probably a few other things we need to pull apart from this 15 second clip

the first thing is that we're in 2021 and this is an experiment and finally we're expanding on an experiment - so it might very well come and go but I've got a feeling that if it makes money for YouTube it's not gonna go

I think it's just gonna come and not go
the second thing is that it's currently only going to be in the United States
this is going to apply to US viewers only
for now

so that's interesting for non-us affiliate marketing YouTubers like me
by the way this is how much I earn from Amazon affiliate marketing

I made a whole video about how much I make in a month the...
the link is in the description and on screen now
it is a really tough place to make money

I guess the biggest takeaway from the announcement is this
so now we've experimented with this in the past and what it does is allow viewers to decide what to watch next and what to do next

yeah the viewers
as you know YouTube will always decide what is best for the viewer not the creator or the affiliate marketer but the viewers
it's always been this way

by the way hello I'm Neil Mossey: I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you to get ideas out into the world here on YouTube to make people happier

I'm wondering could this be absolutely devastating for someone who earns money from unboxing or reviewing products?
But as a viewer - and YouTube is all about the viewer experience - this could be absolutely fantastic because currently it's a really ugly experience wading through links like this instead of really nice shiny... if a bit blurry... a picture probably a bit better than this one
bit less blurry... but you get the gist right?

but for YouTube this could be great because we'll now have stores competing for that space underneath our videos instead of all that traffic going to to one online store

now you've probably had exactly the same thought - the same KERCHING thought that I've had which is "huh, what what if YouTube were to actually share that revenue it gets from the sales of products underneath creators videos with the YouTube creator?"
and so I left that question or suggestion or just out and out begging in the comments of that Creator Insider video

but then I found out that there was this article from Bloomberg in October 2020
this article explains that it's an experiment and claims that the YouTube person said:
"creators will have control over the products that are displayed"
KERCHING!

I don't know if I've got the right sound effect for that?
[KERCHING SOUND EFFECT]
that's better
the link to that article is in the description below but let's take a look at the clip one more time
and finally we're expanding on an experiment that detects products in your content

so what do you think?
leave a comment below
is what you can see here - I'm treading in all sorts - is what you can see here going to affect you financially do you think?
and on screen now is a link to that video which could either be really exciting news or absolutely devastating
so on the other side I've put another video just to cheer you up thanks for watching!

how do I premiere a video on my YouTube channel

it's a very good question
up on the screen now is a countdown to a quiz to test our knowledge on this but as you know there's this thing called the YouTube Creator Academy
it's on screen now and it's where we can learn about every single aspect of YouTube and there are 40 courses

this is what they look like
at the end of each course there's usually an exam so we do this as a quiz and a game show that you and I can can play along together and answer the questions and see which ones we get right
but it's another one of those different ones today because there's no... there's no course exam at the end of this course
there's just a three question quiz called check your knowledge so the countdown is really long for a quiz that's really short but you and I are gonna learn everything there is to know about premieres here on YouTube

we do this every week and you and I are going to manage to get through all 40 courses this year
they're all in this playlist here
hello my name's Neil Mossey and I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you to get ideas out of our heads and out onto here on YouTube to make the world happier

I'm sharing my journey on YouTube right here in real time so that you can avoid all the mistakes and obstacles that I encounter and I've got a funny feeling this is going to be a nice quick one so what I'm going to do I'm going to put the Creator Academy app on screen now so that you can follow along with the course with me
the first lesson is a two-minute video covering everything we need to know about premieres

I'll link to that up on the top of the screen now and in the description but we'll skip that to go to the next lesson which is how to set up a premiere
setting up a premiere is simple
once we're logged in click the video icon at the top of YouTube and select upload video

then follow the prompt to upload your video
drag our video file to the centre of the prompt for a quicker way to upload
fill in the metadata in the fields provided then tick the box to set as premiere and schedule the date and time that you'd like your video to be released
share the event with your fans and count down to the launch

once scheduled you'll be given a shareable link to the watch page where fans can engage until your premiere begins
time badge will show premiere will begin shortly when the premiere is about to begin
the countdown timer will start at two minutes
it sort of looks like this

well I say sort of looks like this... it DOES look like this in 2021
lesson three is best practices for using premieres
promote your premiere by sharing the watch page url teasing the premiere in the community tab or across social media platforms and encourage fans to set reminders so they don't miss it
upload a premiere
I keep wanting to say premiere like all the YouTube gurus and even YouTube itself calls them

I call them premieres so I'm sorry if that's offensive to your ears
upload a premiere between 60 minutes and three hours before the release
live chat with fans
chat functionality is enabled before and during the premiere
here are some best practices when chatting
actively engage with fans and be a part of the watching experience by adding talking points at certain moments in your content
how about right now

I really want to put this out as a premiere and if I have please join in with your talking points I'd love to hear them
encourage fans to ask questions
again ask me anything
use chat moderators as a way to help find and reply to comments more quickly
you're okay
I think I'm not going to be snowed under with comments, thanks for offering to help

enable chat replay to help latecomers feel just as hyped about your premiere and finally thank viewers who attended the premiere
if you're eligible for super chat
I'm not
and have enabled this feature
I can't
tell viewers where the money is going in your premiere

for example to buy new equipment or to fund a specific project or goal
it's equipment any... any money I make goes straight on equipment
hence this my new uh microphone arm that I'm trying out
lesson four is premieres in action and it's a pdf that you can download to go through

I'll just go through the pdf and you can pause the video at any stage that you need to but it covers promote effectively
connect with fans
unlock new revenue and then what to do before uploading
program strategically
timing your premiere

keep it fresh
prepare to chat
promote and educate during release
what to do there
be there for fans
make it special
add value and then after the show it's not over till it's over
continue the conversation

you and I can live chat with viewers for a short period following the end of a premiere video
so we might give that a try and that's it
that's all there is to the pdf
I'll put the link to that in the description as well
there goes the countdown
we've hit zero
it's time for our big quiz - the one that we do every week right here

I'll put a link to the playlist on screen and in the description
let's dive in with question one of three questions
which is not a way to use or promote a premiere
promote the premiere URL-- promote the premiere URL on other social media platforms
live chatting with fans after the premiere is over
sharing the premiere watch page as a community post
or none of the above

wow this is this is tough because I'd think that all three of those are things that you would do to promote a premiere
I guess live chatting with fans after the premiere is over isn't a way to promote the premiere so I'll go for that one
great job
live chatting during premieres is only before and during the premiere but after the premiere there is a chat replay option for folks who weren't there live
how many minutes is the premiere countdown timer for
one two three or four?
I'm gonna go for two

yep the timer starts a countdown of two minutes
final question of the big quiz that isn't very big this week but there's a premiere attached so I guess that balances it out
true or false
super chat is available to anyone who has a premiere
true or false
well I know the answer to this question because I haven't got it because I haven't hit 10000 subscribers yet

hint - this is a perhaps a gentle nudge that you can help take me one step closer to the 10000 subscribers goal but I'm gonna go for false
correct
you have to be eligible for super chat and I think you need 10000 subscribers for that so we'll hit submit
quiz complete
so how did you do
leave a comment below

it'd be lovely to hear if premieres are something that you might be having on your channel and it'd be lovely to see your channels as well so say hi in the comments
right here is a link to the playlist for all of my Creator Academy course exams
and right here is the video that YouTube thinks you should be watching next
thanks for joining me for this my first premiere.
my premiere premiere

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!

I get the impression you would like to see a Sony ZV1 camera video sample
that's footage shot in 4k on on this - the Sony ZV1 or ZV1 depending on where in the world you are
I have a funny feeling that I might actually be the best person to show you this because I spent about an hour and a half yesterday shooting this:
I shot this video yesterday. About an hour's worth of material and I couldn't use one frame of it

I did literally everything wrong
everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong
I didn't shoot in 4k
I thought... I thought that setting it to 50 frames per second would put it into 4k
It's... it's not obviously
you have to go to file format and choose 4k there
the other thing I did wrong was that the ZV1 or ZV1... it has a gyroscope inside so it sensed that I was holding this camera vertically like this
and it shot all the material in portrait and I didn't want this for instagram

so this is my second attempt and it turns out that this is my very first 4k video
I'm shooting this on my GoPro hero5
I've brought this along so that you can actually see the camera and I've had this camera for like four years - never shot 4k
so as you can see I'm absolutely the best person to be showing you this

hello I'm Neil Mossey, I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you - that's a GoPro high five - to get ideas out of your head and out onto here on YouTube where we absolutely need them
we need... we need you to be making videos and I'm making these videos so that you can avoid all the mistakes that I'm making on my YouTube journey

I'm not a camera guru or a photography expert and I'm going to try and do as much talking as possible
so you get to see as much 4k footage as possible
let me cut to the other camera now
this is my my setup
I've got a Sony ZV1 on top of a gorillapod and I've got my boya by-m1 microphone
I've made a video about that: that's in the description below

I've got this windshield on because it is a bit breezy and it seems to be helping the audio and on top of the camera - let's get the GoPro in again - I've put a phone holder to uh just put my notes in front of me because we've got a lot to get through and I'm going to talk a lot so that you get to see as much footage as possible

I'm holding it on a gorillapod
I tried it with my hand grip yesterday and I just needed it to be just a bit further away so you can actually see something other than my big face
I have made a whole load of video that's the correct collective noun by the way - a load of videos

I've made a whole load of videos about the Sony ZV1 camera and one of them is can you use a micro SD card with a Sony ZV1 camera?
here's a spoiler yes you can.
But one of the comments that I got was was this it reads Grabba in 4k?

I'm not sure my pronunciation is correct and isn't it something like graba en cuatro-K
now I think I know what this means but I put it into Google translate and it came out as "can you record in 4k on a micro SD card?"
which was a really specific question but I thought well why not make a video about it

I'm in the uk so I'm shooting in pal which means I'm on 25 frames per second and I chose the 50m setting, but when you switch it to 100m you get this error message:
it says basically you've got to use a card which is rated U3 and luckily I had just bought one of those I've got it on screen now

I'll put a link in the description to that card
and I know what you're thinking which is, Neil... why don't you just buy an SD card
they cost about the same as the micro SD cards and they're actually designed for proper cameras like this
and I hear you but all my cameras up until this point have used the micro SD card
I've got my DJI Osmo Pocket, my GoPro Hero5 plus my daughter's got a camera my son's got a drone...
it means that I've got a lot of micro SD cards that I wanted to use

it's just really handy being able to flip those cards across all my devices
plus I've got I've got quite a lot of them as well.
And if you're interested I'm... I've got this set to intelligent auto, active stabilization at 25 frames per second, the 50m
this is going so well I think I might even look up what the m means!
so how's this working for you so far?

leave me a comment let me know what you think
but I've got a second question and it came on this comment here and the comment reads
how is the zoom on a Sony ZV1 camera?
Is it enough for the average user because I see the zoom on the RX100 mk6 or mk7 is bigger but it costs too much just for that feature and I... I completely hear you
I mean this this camera here isn't cheap either, so what I'm going to do...

I'm going to find, I'm in uh some ancient heath land and I think there's some ancient uh burial mounds like that one there
I found myself a really nice burial mound to stand on and this is what I can see on the GoPro.
And if we cut to the Sony ZV1 camera...
and what I'm going to do is, I'm going to zoom in to the end of the optical zoom which is about there so you can see that building there
I'll just take it back a little bit because the digital zoom kicks in really smoothly
so that's the end of the optical zoom and then I'm going to push it in just a bit further to go all the way in

And then to give you an idea of the capability of this, I'm going to zoom all the way out in one move.
So that is the extent of the... of the zoom
And something that-- that's really useful for me because I'm using a lapel mic
if I were using the onboard mic you would hear the the zoom mechanism really loudly
so it's nice to be able to separate my voice from the zoom on the camera
let's go all the way out

if you're interested in the battery life I've been running my ZV-1 for about 40 minutes on airline mode and the screen at sunny weather brightness so I've saved power with the airline mode - or airplane mode - and I've probably blown it all on the on the bright screen
but at least I can see what I'm doing
and it's lasted for 40 minutes I'm on the final bar of battery right now so I think I'm on its last legs
shall I just show you some 4k footage and run some music?

I'll do that for a minute just so you can see what the footage looks like just as a normal video sample.
[MUSIC]
[MUSIC]
OOOH!
is this video helping?
I don't think anyone will reach this point of the video but if you have why not say hi in the comments below
and right here are all my videos about the Sony ZV1 camera
I hope there's something in there to also help out with you with this camera

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
I'm gonna go for this one all of the above
oh no!
now this video is gonna be a really weird episode
on the screen now is the countdown to a very short quiz that's gonna take place and it's already a lot of time so I don't know how this is going to work
there's this thing called the YouTube Creator Academy

I'll put it on screen here and it's where you can learn about every single aspect of YouTube and there are 41 courses
here's what they look like
at the end of each course is usually an exam so we do this as a game show and a quiz that you and I can play along with and answer the questions and see if we pass the course

But what I didn't realize was that some of the courses don't have exams at the end
it's just a course and maybe a few questions
well there are a few questions on this one
it's called use comments to connect with your community but there's no quiz on this one so what I'm going to do is I'm going to actually go through the course so that you and I can get up to speed with how to handle comments on our YouTube channel

By the way hello I'm Neil Mossey, I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you - double five - to get ideas out of your head and out onto here on YouTube
to make the world happier because we need we need your channel we need your stuff
it's saturday night here in the Happy Hut
I've got my game show T-shirt my London Weekend Television T-shirt that usually came before every game show that I grew up with

let's show you
let's do it again some Harry Rabinowitz glockenspiel there
so the first thing on the course is this video here
there's a link in the description I'll link to it on screen now
it's basically a video that explains everything in the course anyway so we'll skip straight to lesson two

promote quality comments
comments are a great place to get direct feedback from your viewers
answer their questions and above all create a community and conversation around your videos
here are some specific things that we can do to achieve that

heart our favourite comments
when you heart a comment viewers will see your channel icon with a small red heart and may receive a notification that you loved what they wrote I... I give out these as much as possible
I'm just delighted at any comment that I get
I've sometimes put them on some really horrible comments as well just to annoy the the commenter
I'm not sure they're intended that way

this is a quick and effective way to build fan loyalty and to show your appreciation to viewers
pin comments to the top of your feed
pinning lets us highlight what comments our fans see when watching our videos
I don't know if I should do this as "you" or "we"
I'm gonna do it as "we" because I'm not... I'm not YouTube

we can either pin our own comment or a fan comment
pinning our own comments is a great way to clarify something from our video
ask your audience a specific question
tease a specific moment or easter egg
pin a fan comment that stood out to me to highlight them and to thank our viewers for watching
this may seem obvious but replying to comments shows our audience that we're listening and interested in their feedback
use replies to answer fan questions or thank them individually
find comments using new filters

this is what it looks like
it's a new tool to help us manage our comments by allowing us to search for specific keywords and filter by subscriber status, channel member status, the number of subscribers that the commenter has, comments that contain questions so that we can respond more easily and our response status to only see comments that we have or haven't responded to

lesson three handle hurtful or inappropriate comments
as we probably know, not all comments are positive or appropriate
YouTube recognizes how incredibly important it is for us to keep our community positive and safe and for us to maintain our own well-being
here are actions that we can take at the comment level

we can remove the comments and all of its replies
do this by clicking the three dots next to the comment and selecting remove
we can also do this from within YouTube studio in the comments tab
flag the comments to YouTube
if the comment violates YouTube's community guidelines, it will be removed
hide the user
doing this blocks a specific user from posting comments on any of our videos
we can block a user from commenting directly from their inappropriate comments or in the community tab in our channel settings
users are not alerted when we block them

I love this
they carry on leaving horrible comments completely unaware that none of them are showing up which which I love
Here are actions that we can take at the channel level
from our YouTube settings go to the community tab then defaults
from here we can choose to allow all comments, hold potentially inappropriate comments for review, hold all comments for review, disable comments
if we hold any comments for review they will not appear publicly until we've reviewed them

so this has got nothing to do with comments but I absolutely love two channels
there's ali abdaal and MARY spender and they're British
obviously their channels are excellent but I love the way they speak and they speak so clearly and articulate so clearly in a way that I don't think that I have trained myself to do
I've noticed on my videos 25% of the viewers are watching with the subtitles on and I've got a feeling it's just to clarify my particular english accent
so I'm working on it

I'm trying to pronounce my consonants
I'm trying to read more slowly
if you can understand what I'm saying say hello in the comments below it'd be lovely to hear from you
it'd be good to know what you think about this this episode

It's slightly different because I'm just reading out the course which wasn't the spirit of the quiz the... the saturday night game show
the setting that we choose here in the-- in the comment settings applies to all of our new videos and we can also select these defaults on an individual video basis in the advanced tab

we can create a blocked words list
sometimes people may use words or phrases that we don't want to see on our channel
from channel settings go to the community tab where we'll see a section here for blocked words and we can add words or phrases that we don't want to appear in our comments section

we can also add comments moderators
add trusted community members to flag comments on our videos for removal
the comments that they flag are removed from the public comments section and can be found in our helpful review queue as flagged by moderator until we approve or remove them
and we can add a moderator in our channel settings under community or from the comments tab in YouTube studio

turn off comments completely
if we're feeling overwhelmed by comments and these tools, we can choose to turn off all comments by selecting disabled comments in our community defaults
and that's it!
the.. the the clock has hit... I was going to call it a counter
the clock has hit zero which means we can now...
it's quiz time!
yes it's time

only three questions tonight so hold on to your hats I'll...
I'll try to get through them as swiftly as possible and scroll up
test your knowledge
it's weird having them on the side of the screen isn't it
if you're still watching this, that's a good sign probably that this layout is working
question one

what happens if we flag a comment
it's held for review
it's sent to YouTube for review for a community guidelines violation
it's immediately deleted
or all of the above

I'm gonna go for this one all of the above
oh no!
that's the first time I've got a question wrong
oh no hang on with this--
this isn't a course exam, this is just a test your knowledge quiz
I think this is the first time that I definitely know I've got a question wrong
so let's try again what happens if you flag a comment

I will go for it's sent to YouTube for review
excellent!
flagging a comment sends it to YouTube for a review to see if it violates YouTube's community guidelines
if it does then it's removed

which of the following is the best way to handle comments that use words or phrases that you don't want to see
delete the comment
hide the user who left a comment
set up a blocked words list
or disable comments completely

I am going to choose set up a blocked words list
that's right
while all of these options are ways to handle inappropriate comments, the best option is to keep certain words or phrases from being used is to set up a block words list

which of the following is one way to use comments to positively engage your audience
turn comments off
use comments moderators
create a blocked words list
or heart a comment

I'll go for heart a comment
well done!
hearting a comment shows your fans that you appreciate them
now if I hit submit it just says quiz complete
so there's no letter of... what's it called?
letter of completion this week

this is quiz number four
it's a slightly different one
what do you think
was it better to actually have the course before the quiz
I'm not sure
I think I like just diving in straight... straight to the quiz
let me know in the comments below
thanks for playing along and let me know how you did
let me know if you got any wrong, and right here is what YouTube thinks you should be watching next!
all the other quizzes are in in the description thanks for playing along

41 FREE YouTube courses in 1 year? Plus KITTENS! YouTube Creator Academy Course Exam #3

TRANSCRIPT: (CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE)

THIS IS THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK PLAY ON THE VIDEO ABOVE!
We have started the clock!
That's the countdown to the quiz
Now you probably know this already but there's this thing called the YouTube Creator Academy where you can learn about every single aspect of YouTube

there are 41 courses and for some reason I've decided this year I'm going to do every single one of them and right now you and me in real time we're going to be doing the 10 fundamentals of a creative strategy
that it's a bit of a lumpy title

there's a link in the description and it covers: find your niche, vlog like a pro, shooting on mobile and how to hook them with our channel trailer
but at the end you can see there it's a course exam
well that's the quiz that we're going to do

I'm doing these one a week in real time with you so that you can play along with me
by the way if you've not been here before hello I'm Neil Mossey, I'm a development producer helping high achieving creators and performers just like you to get ideas out of your head and out onto here on YouTube to make the world happier

it's Saturday night here in the Happy Hut, and I hope the spirit of Saturday night is wherever you are watching this right
now look I've even got my game show t-shirt on!
My London Weekend Television T-shirt to get in the quiz mood
[LWT THEME]
I forgot to do the jingle last week
[LWT THEME AGAIN]
the LWT chimes
[LWT THEME AGAIN]

But enough of that, time to zip myself up
the clock has hit zero let's dive in and do this quiz
we have nine questions to get through so let's start with question one
it's always difficult trying to get the whole thing on screen and to get me on the screen so I'm gonna put me on and take me off
by the time we've done 41 of these I'll have worked out how best to do this

imagine you're going to start a music channel
how could you make sure that your channel is interactive
ask your viewers what their favorite bands are and create playlists based off their answers
encourage your fans to send you ideas for future videos
record live performances and interview fans in attendance
or all of the above
so how can you make sure that your channel is interactive

I'm going to go for all of the above
oh by the way no more noobie was playing along with last week's quiz and said that some of his answers differ from mine and uh YouTube Creator Academy doesn't actually tell you which answers are correct as you go along
so if you have any different answers from me as you go please put them in the comments
it'd be great to see if you differed from from any of mine

question two what are some of the best ways to make it seem like you're having a conversation with your audience
interview your friends and family on screen
look directly into the camera and lecture into it
don't change the camera angle
I should change the angle sometimes shouldn't I
say hello goodbye and or thanks to your fans in every video
I want to do that at the end of this video
I'm going to say hello goodbye and or thanks
every now and then have a conversation with your neighbor and film it for your channel
so what are the best ways to make it seem like you're having a conversation with your audience
I will go with say hello goodbye and or thanks to your fans in every video

question three why is it important for each of your videos to work as a standalone piece
if a video cannot stand alone it will always have low watch time
viewers don't typically watch more than one video in a series
if a video cannot stand alone a viewer may not understand the full context and may leave
this isn't important because subscribers will have enough context
I will go for if a video can't stand alone a viewer may not understand the full context and may leave
you get the context of this though surely
we've got I think six questions left of the nine

question four which of these tactics could make your video more shareable
develop a video about a hot topic something culturally relevant at the time
create an emotional response such as making viewers laugh
feature a guest star whom your viewers love
or all of the above
I think I'm going to go for all of the above

which of the following topics would probably be considered relevant to many viewers
a local sporting event
how-to videos
videos of your mum's cat
I... I do want to now put up footage of my late Mum's cat
there's DeeDee and Amber
it was taken before the days of HD

uh or live streaming while you're doing the dishes
it says washing the dishes
live streaming while you're washing the dishes

so which of the following topics would be considered relevant to many viewers
I'm going to go for how-to videos
I don't like the hyphen in the how-to
it makes it look too urgent

question 6 what's a good guideline to be more sustainable on your channel
focus on upload quantity not quality
invest in a studio and hire help immediately
never record more than one video per day
or produce videos that take less time and labour
so what's a good line to be more sustainable

I would go for produce videos that take less time and labor
three questions left

you're about to launch your show idea
good luck
how many of the ten fundamentals can help you
none
less than half of them
at least half of them
or all of them

well given it's an entire course on the YouTube Creator Academy I'll venture that it's all of them
question eight are we gonna pass this week what do you think
you know with 41 courses there's got to be one where I fail spectacularly in front of you
penultimate question

whether you aim for a niche or broad audience is an example of which fundamental
collaboration
discoverability
targeting
or being conversational

I think discoverability oh no hang on or is it targeting
oh whether you aim for a niche or broad audience
yeah I'll go for targeting
if you choose differently please say in the comments
oh by the way you know there is a link to the whole course and that's in the description below so you can follow everything that leads up to this quiz
final question question nine

what's an example of making your channel more interactive
record several videos on the same day
make sure that your concepts can be boiled down to one sentence
communicate your upload schedule in your channel banner
or pose a question that you want your audience to answer in the comments

I will go for pose a question that you want your audience to answer in the comments
and if you've reached this point in the video please put the word buttress in the comments
because I... I don't know if anyone's made it to question nine this week
but that'll be like a little wink, just put buttress in the comments and then I'll get 10 comments with the word buttress in and then I'll know

let's submit
quiz complete
now the way it says get my letter I think this indicates that we may have passed this week
yes!

Letter of completion!
Neil Mossey for completion of great... no create great content
so there it is my letter of completion
how did you do
I'd love to know how are these quizzes going for you

I've got links to the first and second courses and I'll even try and put a link to next week's course when I get that done
but I'm hoping these quizzes uh are helping in some kind of way
and right here is what YouTube thinks you should be watching next thanks for playing along and I'll see you next week right here ow!
I'm not sure... was that a good one I don't know
