If you have a Samsung Android phone like this Samsung Galaxy S21, you've probably experienced this. You're on a crucial call, maybe with a client or a loved one or both, and suddenly you hear it, a loud, unmistakable voice saying, "This call is being recorded."

Not only is this embarrassing, like you're some kind of spy secretly recording the conversation, not so secretly, but also now you've got to wait while you fumble around trying to get the call recording stopped. This call is no longer being recorded. And we get this every time our ear touches the screen during the call.

This is happening because Samsung added a new record button right in the middle of the active call screen. Here's the bad news, but I'll give you a way to fix this.

There is no way at the moment to disable the call recording in the settings. You can't turn it off. It's annoying and really frustrating. Plus, it makes us look super sketchy.

But don't worry, there is a simple fix that's completely free. Here's how to swap out Samsung's rubbish phone dialer for another app called Phone by Google. It's the same app that makes phone calls on Google Pixel phones. And it's a gamechanger. It removes the call record button and makes our calls feel normal again. Let's do this step by step. You can follow along with me.

Step one, install the Google phone app.
The first thing we do is go to the Google Play Store. Open the search bar at the bottom and type in phone by Google or Google phone. It should be the first result after the ad at the top. It's a free app, so go ahead and hit install.

Step two, set it as your default dialer.
Once it's installed, if you hit open, you might see this lovely option, set phone as default. Phone can only make and receive calls if it's your default phone app. We can click here on set as default.
Otherwise, you can go into your phone's settings, which is the cog icon.
Scroll down to apps.
At the top is this option, choose default apps. If it isn't here, try clicking these three dots on the top right hand corner for default apps.

From this list, you'll see phone app. Tap on that. This is a list of my installed dialers. There are only two of them. There's the one by Samsung causing all the problems. We want to choose phone by Google, which is helpfully labeled here phone.

Don't forget this phone app is completely different to the previous Samsung phone app. So the icon you press to make a call on the home screen doesn't work now. Don't forget to replace it with the new Google phone app icon which will be in your list of apps and you can put that on your home screen now. Now we can open up the new dialer.

You'll notice it looks a little different but it's much cleaner. I thought recent calls had gone, but that's still an option along the bottom. And when I call now, as soon as the call connects, you'll see the difference.

Congratulations, there's no record button in the middle of the screen. Problem solved. The Google phone app also has other nice features like caller ID and spam protection, which automatically blocks unwanted calls. I am calling this Dad Delivers success.
