This is the DJI Mic Mini wireless microphone. Oh my goodness, this thing is absolutely gorgeous. And you can hear that I'm recording in a challenging audio environment. We've got planes, we've got drilling going on in the background. So, will this microphone hold up? Is it worth buying? And more crucially, how do I feel about buying it in white? It's my first ever white microphone. Is it something that's going to bring joy? This is how the DJI Mic Mini arrives. And I'll give you a quick tour of the box. So, you can read the packaging in your own time. You just hit pause on the video. Everything seems to arrive in this pouch. Let's open this up. A nice fabric bag. I didn't quite know how this would look. This is great. You know, I might use this as a bag for my DJI Osmo Nano camera. Nice touch with the logo on the zipper. This is the white DJI Mic Mini transmitter and it is absolutely gorgeous. This is like a really nice brooch. The white finish is matte and it has a silver DJI logo on the back. It's a silver coloured clip. Let's take the magnet off. I'll show you that closer in a moment, but it has a a clip so you can clip the Mic Mini to your clothing or cap or whatever you want to clip it to. And on the magnet, we have a DJI logo that is on one side only. It works the other way round if you wanted to not display the logo in all your videos. On the top is the the microphone itself. On its right hand side, there's a LED display of a single LED and we have a a link button that can pair this with a phone, DJI cameras, and DJI receivers and a power button there. I'll hit that in a moment. And then there are some connection pins on the bottom. Nothing on the other side, but just to give you an idea of size. That's how it is in my hand. So, should I hit the power button? I've got to hit the power button, haven't I? Just to see it light up. There we go. Flashing green. And I'll be pairing this up with uh a camera and a phone in a moment. Few other accessories. This is the transmitter charging dock. And it has... it looks like two pins there and a socket for a USB-C cable. It comes with a non-logo'ed USB-C to USB-A cable. That's interesting. I thought it would be USB C to USB C and that is about 50 cm long. And the nicest touch, it comes with two windshields, a light grey wind muff windshield. What do you call it? Deadcat. Deadkitten. Some people I got complaints on my channel for calling these deadkittens. This is a white one. But it's slightly off-white. It's very, very, very light grey. And this is very dark. And if I hold it up against the microphone before I put it on, it is not bright white, which I kind of like. Kind of looks like a Rod Stewart haircut circa 1976. I'm going to push this underneath. Can you see there's a grille and two buttons? And they clip onto here. So, I guess it's this way round with the clips behind. And uh it's a furry gonk again from 1976. I love this. I absolutely love it as you take it off. Maybe it doesn't come off. There you go. You just need to use brute force to take it off. But obviously I don't want to do that. I don't want to snap the two pins in there. Let's put another another hairdo onto the mic mini. There we go. I have a power bank with a USB-C port, you know, the big USB plug. And then I'll plug it into the transmitter charging dock like that. It clicks into place. You just place the DJI Mic Mini transmitter into the dock. It's magnetic. I tried to say the word magnet and magnetic at the same time. Let me show you closer. If I let go, it just snaps into place. And it's held at a jaunty angle there. I'm not sure you can see this in the sunshine, but it flashes green. It gives three pulses green while it's charging. So, I've just discovered the best way to take off the windshield is to get your nail underneath one of those legs at the back and flip it up. I'll connect up this microphone to a couple of cameras and a phone. But I first wanted to show you how it compares in size with the other DJI mics. If I take the windshield off, this is my DJI Mic 2. And I'll just show you my two microphones just to show you how big they are next to each other. Like big and little brothers, aren't they? Forgive my benign essential tremor and the drilling in the background. But uh it wouldn't be a mic test without people drilling in the background, would it? So that's how it compares. Let's go side on. And I might as well show you the microphone I'm using now, which is the DJI Mic. This was the very first microphone in the wireless mic range from DJI. But you can see the evolution of it. I think we should pair this up now on camera just to see how easy it is to link the DJI Mic Mini with the DJI Nano camera. I've also got the Pocket 3. I'll show you that. I've also got my phone. So, we'll see if we can link the microphone to that as a plane starts to fly over. Honestly, it's not usually that busy here in the garden... suddenly become the major flight path in the UK all of a sudden. To connect the DJI Mini Mic to a DJI Osmo Nano camera, I'll turn on the Osmo camera. Hello, I'm here. I'm not just a disembodied voice. We will swipe down from the top into settings. And on the Nano, we have a dedicated wireless mic button. So, I'll click on that. And we have two options. We can either connect the mic mini to the TX1 input or the TX2 input. TX stands for transmitter. Let's choose TX1. And the menu screen here says power on Osmo Audio and pair. There's also a linking guide to guide you through how to connect with the Mic Mini. On the DJI Mic Mini, we will hold down the linking button. It looks like a a chain. And can you see it's blinking off and on, blue and green. I'll let go of the link button. It will carry on flashing on those two colours. Oh, now here it says "Osmo Audio not found". Now I think the reason that has happened is because I had my mic 2 connected to this. So I'm going to hit the reconnect button and it says power on Osmo Audio and pair. So I'll hold down the link button and it's flashing blue and green alternatively again. And on the camera, it now says Osmo battery level 40% Osmo Audio connected. And we have a solid blue light on the microphone. Here beneath this display on the DJI Nano, we have transmitter one settings. So, we can change settings in the microphone from the camera. I won't go through all of them because they will change over time. You can have a play with those yourself, but the one I use a lot is the LED button. So, I can just toggle this LED switch on and off. And I haven't turned the microphone off. I've just turned the LED light on and off because sometimes it's distracting when you're filming. I've now connected the DJI Mic Mini to my Osmo Nano. And this is how the DJI Mic Mini transmitter wireless microphone sounds on my DJI Osmo Nano camera. This is how the the microphone sounds. What's interesting and while we're talking about small cameras with a small microphone, what I found is that it's really easy because it's so small, it's really easy to set it on its side because it's just the the square shape there. So, this microphone's pointing in the other direction. And if I keep talking, hopefully you won't hear too much of a difference, but this is the difference between the microphone pointing out to the side and the microphone oriented towards my voice. I don't know if you can hear a difference there. I'm just saying it's really easy to have this pointing in all kinds of directions because it's so small. It's fantastic. To pair the DJI Mic Mini with the DJI Pocket 3 camera, going to turn on the Pocket 3 and then I'm going to swipe down to bring up the settings menu and then I'm going to go into settings. Our first option on the menu here is "wireless mic". So I'll click on that and you see there are two ports available, TX1 and TX2. TX stands for transmitter 1 and transmitter 2. So you can choose which TX number you want to put it on. I'll put it on TX1. And I have a message here saying power on DJI Osmo Audio and pair. Back on the DJI Mic Mini. Can you see there's like a chain icon on this button here? That's the link button above the power button. I'm going to hold down the link button for 3 seconds. And I don't know if you can see that, but it's flashing alternately blue and green. And then it's finally ended on a solid blue color here. And if I hold up the Pocket 3, we can see that DJI Osmo Audio connected. So the microphone is now connected with the Pocket 3. I'll hit confirm. And you can see that it's taken this slot, the TX1 slot. If you scroll down, you have all these other options where you can control the microphone transmitter from the Pocket 3 camera. So, if I hit the LED button, toggle that off, it's turned the LED light off. So, if you want to turn the light off on your DJI Mic Mini because it's distracting sometimes, especially if you're in the dark, and we can turn it on and off just by pressing the switch on and off. I'll leave it back on. Now, if you want to disconnect or unpair the DJI Mic Mini from the Pocket 3, maybe you want to connect it to something else, or you want a different microphone to be connected to the Pocket 3. I'll click on the TX1 button, and we have two options. We have disconnect and reconnect. If I hit reconnect, I get this warning message. "Connecting to another transmitter will disconnect transmitter 1". So, the reconnect button means you can change this microphone to say another microphone, which could be another mic mini... Mini or my DJI Mic 2. But to unpair it and disconnect it, I'm just going to hit the disconnect button on the left hand side here. And it gives a warning. "Transmitter 1 will no longer be connected automatically". So, I'll hit confirm. And you can see that the microphone is disconnected. And if I click the button to swing the camera around, this is how the DJI Mic Mini sounds on the DJI Pocket 3 camera. What do you think? Is this... How's this sounding to you? I... I'll do a little comparison with the DJI Mic Mini and the onboard microphone with the DJI Pocket 3. So, this is how the DJI Mic Mini sounds on the Pocket 3. And this is how the onboard microphone, the built-in microphone on the DJI Pocket 3 camera sounds. You should be able to hear quite a difference between the internal microphone on the Pocket 3 when compared with... Thank you for some drilling the background. When compared with the DJI Mic Mini wireless microphone, I'm... I'm just trying to give you as much as many sounds as possible. I'm trying to talk as much as possible so you can hear that difference between this, which is the DJI Mic Mini, and the built-in internal microphone that's uh that's actually inside the Pocket 3 camera. There's quite a difference, isn't there? Something I wasn't expecting was quite how small this thing is. I mean, obviously, it's called Mini for a reason, but it is so easy to drop it. At least with my other DJI microphones, they have a bit of heft to them, a bit of size. This I mean... I mean you could just lose it down the side of the sofa or somewhere. I'm really glad that I have the carry pouch. I... I could really easily lose this, I think. How do you pair a DJI Mic Mini wireless microphone with a phone? In this case, it's an Android phone, but you'll get the the gist if you have a different kind of phone. First, I'm going to swipe down from the top to turn on Bluetooth. And I'm going to go into the Bluetooth settings. And then on the side of the DJI Mic Mini, we have the two buttons. The other button is the linking button. It has a chain icon on the side. I'm going to hold this down for a few seconds, and you should be able to see that the LED light is flashing alternately blue and green. And if I let go of the button, that flashing green and blue continues. Over on my phone, if I scroll down to available devices, you should be able to see this DJI Mic Mini and then a sequence of numbers. I'm going to click on that and it says pairing Bluetooth pairing request pair with DJI Mic Mini. So, I'm going to hit pair. And now we can see that the DJI Mic Mini is successfully paired with my phone. It tells me connected for calls and 40% battery remaining. And there's a solid blue light showing on the DJI Mic Mini transmitter. If I open my phone's camera and I'm going to go to Pro Video, you can see an option for the microphone and you might need to select the microphone from these options here. I'm going to choose BT for Bluetooth. And if I tap on the mic, you should be able to see the levels going up and down here. I've only been able to confirm this on video pro mode. This is how the DJI Mic Mini sounds recording on my phone. So, this is an Android phone. It's a Samsung Galaxy S20. And this is how the DJI Mic Mini sounds being sent by Bluetooth. Now, I have been told that the connection between a DJI mic over Bluetooth isn't quite as good as sending it to either a DJI receiver or a DJI camera. So, I'm recording as much audio as possible with some drilling in the background. Thank you. Just so you can hear the difference between this microphone being sent by Bluetooth to a phone. And this is how the onboard microphone sounds on my phone. just to give you a comparison between the DJI Mic Mini and the phone's onboard internal microphone. Now, this could be really useful if you are a YouTuber or you're a content creator for Instagram or Tik Tok because it means that you can use this microphone to shoot on your phone. And hopefully the quality of this will sound much better than the onboard microphone on your phone, whatever phone you're using. So, what do you think? Is the DJI Mic Mini a wireless microphone that you might use for your recording? I was really surprised by quite how easily it can pair with just a regular phone. And I think I might actually use this with my phone. You know, sometimes I have to get the phone out to take some shots. Being able to pair this microphone with my regular phone is actually going to be even more useful than using it with a camera, I think. And I have never bought a microphone that's white before. But that it used to be that they cost so much more. The one I bought was exactly the same price as the DJI Mic Mini in black. If you've reached this point in the video, thank you for saying hi in the comments. This channel is... is my attempt to help you make more videos on YouTube. So, thank you for hitting the thumbs up. They're still drilling next door. Thank you for hitting the thumbs up or the subscribe button. It... it really... it really does help me do this. So, thank you. And right here is what YouTube knows you want to be watching.
