CHiPs - thats Califormia Hi-ghway Patrol -s - MY FAVE TV #28
FAVE TV #28 - CHiPs
This probably follows a little too hot on the heels of Chopper Squad, but if that was the perfect Saturday morning, then the perfect Saturday evening was CHiPs.
I was completely unaware of the dramatic plot that renegade loose cannon Frank Poncherello is being given a final chance by partnering up with laid-back surfer dude Jon Baker (riding in pairs is apparently not the correct procedure in the California Highway Patrol).
And even less aware of the homo-social subtext of its imagery.
But for a 6 year old, big bikes with flashing lights weaving in and out of traffic was hypnotic.

I probably wasn’t the only one who put a sticker on the crossbar and big stick at the back of my Raleigh Tomahawk in 1978.
CHIPS - CRASHES AND BASHES
Remember when it was maybe enough for telly to just sit a camera on the back of a motorcycle and follow the progress of a road chase? Maybe that’s why I’m obsessed with the Tour De France.
CHIPS - ON BIKES!
